What traditions do you have for the moon phases?

My partner and I are trying to refocus our practice from rituals to more "mundane" traditions.

For the Full Moon we set the evening aside to have a nice sit down dinner together or with family/friends. The New/Dark Moon is a much more sedate evening - I fast during the day, we do divination and abstain from TV watching/web surfing.

I try to garden and such by the moon phases, but I am new to it, and the Farmer's Almanac is not always handy, lol.

Does anyone else?

Yes, all of my herbwork is according to moonphase and the moon in the constellations, and all of our Feast Days are keyed to celestial events as well.

In general:
Waxing Moon ~ drawing anything toward you, spells of increase
Full moon ~ giving thanks/making offerings, expressing needs, scrying, healing
Waning Moon ~ banishings, spells of decrease
Dark of the Moon ~ hexes and anything else that I want done in darkness

Do things that Make Sense To You. I've more people get frustrated from things not working because they did something that was written by some-one else and had no emotional context for them than for any other reason.

check out the majic and rituals forum, there's a whole section on moon phases.

I liked the idea of fasting at the new moon, I've done that once before and felt great afterwards!! . . but I've gotta get my digestive tract in better shape before I do it again (i have an ulcer and GERD, so can't go without food right now).

Id like to hear about some good meditations and simlple solitary rituals for the phases

When I don't have school on the New Moon, I try to fast. Or I eat healthy. I also do a clean up such as cleaning my cat's litter box and sweeping the kitchen and my room.

On the Full Moon, I do rituals and work on what I need. I bake.

On the Waning Moon, I don't cast spells unless it's for banishing.

My wife and I named the Full Moons for the year, so as each one rolls around, we try to do something that honors that name. Since most of the names revolve around either seasonal food or flowers that are in bloom, it usually involves just cutting some flowers for the table or cooking a meal that incorporates a particular ingredient.

does anyone work with ascendant/descendant moon phases (different from waxing/waning) ?

What interpretation could we give to ascendant, descendant moons, and moon knots in magic ?

I used to hold a small ritual during each of the full moons.

Now however it's a matter of juggling small children, around rituals.

but-does anyone here have odd things happen to them when thee moon is in Pisces? I tend to get some bad luck, weird things.....one time the gardener put the sprinkler on, I went out to lunch only to come back home and discover that the sprinkler had been hitting the window and soaked everything inside the house by the window: my dvds and vhs tapes were there. At least I was able to save most of them. Anyone here go thru similar things?

The Mahavidyas are honored; well, 2 as far as I know; Kali on the New Moon and Lalita on the Full Moon.

You're probably going to get alot of different answers on this but honestly, do whatever feels right to you.

I haven't been practicing for a long time (due to school, work, laziness, etc). I want to get back into the flow of things by observing the moon phases. I'd love to spend a year where I make sure to observe the changes in the moon with a small ritual, prayer, divination, etc. I have not decided what I want to do exactly but I think it would be a great way to get back into being magically and spiritually observant.
