View Full Version : divination, the tree of life, and the sephiroth. what does it all mean?

tonight i had the urge (as i am very spur of the moment at times) to do some divination.

i did wax on water, as that usually works best for me if i need a good slap on the face.

it was sort of general question on "where do i go from here?" in reference to my current situation (ie. the marriage, the seziures, the financial problems, the move, etc)

it took me a few seconds to find an image in the water. but then it hit me like a brick.

there was a tree. but not just any tree, the tree of life. more specifically, the first thing that came into my head is the sephiroth, which is actually rather strange as i have recently begun studying this as well.

it was screaming out to me, almost literally.

"hey over here! look at me! no LOOK AT ME DAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM RIGHT HERE!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm having trouble interpreting what this might mean though. Why, in particular, this image felt a need to reach out in such a harsh manner.

I mean, i have an idea of where this is going, but i'm not sure where to begin...

i also feel like i must add to this:

i dont think i am far enough into my studies to really comprehend what this all means.

i have a general grasp on the idea, but like i said, i have no idea whatsoever where exactly i should begin. usually i would pause for a moment and meditate upon it. but nearly the instant i saw this image my brain went haywire.

i need to understand this. i get the uncanny and rather unsettling feeling that it is crucial.

i did a quick pic and some paint editing to show what i am talking about. the pic is kinda crappy as it was taken on my cell phone and i accidentally shook it a bit moving the glass into the living room, but you should get the general idea...

While I don't do very much when it comes to the sephiroth (as Kabbalah and related schools of mysticism are focused differently then my methods), I would argue that this is an indication that you should definately continue your research and study into this. I also would be inclined to suggest that you focus upon the specific spheres of the sephiroth that made themselves apparent in the divination that you performed, as the results of it may be showing the areas where you need to have greater emphasis upon right now.

That, however, is my perspective. *shrugs* I hope it helps.

I think you are being told in no uncertain terms that the Tree of Life offers you a potential study format that will benefit you at this time in your life. Remember, the sephiroth are only part of the entire Tree. You also have the paths and the pillars as potential study guides.

There are many, many books about the Qabala and the Tree of Life. It took me a while to find any that were basic enough for me to understand, but that also offered enough information to help me to get how the Tree works. Two that I found useful are "More Simplified Magick - Pathworking and the Tree of Life" by Ted Andrews, and "The Witches Qabala" by Ellen Cannon Reed. That second book presents the Qabala from a Wiccan perspective, but it offers a lot of insights that would be of benefit to anyone.

Maybe we can get the Qabala board going again, too. *wink*

I respectfully disagree with your assessment. This divination is not a general call to study but a specific call to action. The significance of your divination, I believe, lies in the fact that it lacks parity between the spheres: specifically, 10, 7, 6, 5 and 4 are given much more weight than the other half. Ten is representative of the place you are starting from, and 6-5-4 is Kabbalistic realm that you are reaching for. Not wanting to leave with you a disconnect between your reality, Malkuth, and your aspiration, Beri'ah, it gives you the connecting path, Netzach, which should be your focal point for study and meditation. Though, I would say, on the whole, the divination stresses a balanced approach to your actions, and perhaps not a suggestion to rely solely on one path or approach.

Yes, that would be the pillars. Remember, the Tree is not only the sephiroth and the paths, but the pillars as well. Unless your wax was mushed by your moving it, one side of your Tree does have more emphasis than the other.

If you can get a copy, The Chicken Kabbalah is a good overview without getting too detailed. That book was essentially my cliffs notes while I was reading Dion Fortune's Mystical Qabbalah, which is also an excellent read, though not a quick one.

And the reality is you never stop going deeper because there is no limit to how deep you can go. I've been practicing for 17 years and I still feel like a newbie at times. There's just so much to learn, I try to enjoy the journey and not get stressed about it.

As for your divination, I suspect the message was about grounding and using the qabalah to enrich that.
