View Full Version : Astral projection and trance question

Lately I've become very interested in astral projection or OBEs. I downloaded a book and found a few others as well as other material online and have been doing some reading. As far as I can tell you need to be in a light trance for the exercises to work if you're conscious (not projecting in your sleep). Is this correct, by the way? Anyway, so I started doing some research into getting into a meditative trance and while doing so ran across some trance inducing audio/video on YouTube.
I watched the video for two minutes then closed my eyes an started doing the exercise where you are climbing a rope. I felt so strange.. I was already kind of out of it, then I started to feel kind of tingly in places, I felt like the back of my neck was heavy and almost vibrating, it was getting a little harder to breathe (had to concentrate on it) and my heart started beating really fast. I wanted to let go and see where it would take me but the heart/breathing thing was freaking me out. I noticed before when I managed to get into a light trance that before I got there my heart rate went up for a while as well. Is this NORMAL? I want to be able to expierence but I want to make sure this is normal so I don't have to worry. You see I had recent heart worries but a EKG and stress test cleared me- they say it's my anxiety that brings on my symptoms. It's a few minutes after my little expierence and I'm kind of shaken and anxious.
Any thoughts/suggestions/comments?
Also I tend to feel almost out of it like in a dream when I'm up at night by myself. Could it be I'm in more of a trance-ish state at that time or am I just looking to much into it?

your symptoms sound pretty normal for a beginner
the tingly sensations and the out of it sort of feeling, were you able to see yourself?did you also get tempture changes did you feel coldish ?
that is also normal but I dont know about the heart rate thing mine never does that but its probaly because your anxiety about the whole thing..
my advice is just take your time, dont over do it and work on your breathing to calm your heart

You may be subconsciously working toward the trance-state that you need to attain your goal. OBE's affect people differently, and depending upon the type of meditator that you are, the degree of work you have to put into reaching the goal of the OBE is going to be different. It sounds as though you reach the state fairly easily... so your next step would be to work on moving about in that state in your astral form.
Another thing to keep in mind is to make sure you aren't going to be interrupted, even inadvertently.
"Snapping" back isn't fun, and you want to talk about making your heart pound...
Make sure that you are in a quiet or meditative room, where you won't be interrupted by ringing telephones, knocks on the door, etc. (Headphones might help)
Setting the "mood" for the activity makes it more attainable, if not necessarily easier.

Sounds like your blood pressure is increasing ,
in reaction to your "body soul"...gut level ,
desire body...
You are working with "etheric / astral body" ,
if one projects...in my Tradition...
This is a disengagement , not total , yet , as
an extension from the physical , can , not
necessarily does , yet can , cause the body
soul to fear the experience...
With heart / blood pressure problems , there
are sometimes one may feel like they are disengaging
from the body...stress and anxiety , can cause
either a more dense , or , in escapism mode ,
a feeling of disengagement...
I would perhaps , wait a little longer...before I
state that fully , I would like more info...
How recent was your heart problem ?

The heart pounding sensation is not actually your heart beat going up but your heart chakra throbbing. This is totally normal and as weird and as real as it feels you just have to go with it, otherwise you will not project.
You sounded really close, and all the symptoms you describe are totally normal. Carry on this way and you'll be well on your way to getting OOB :)
Good luck and happy travels :D

Not necessarily , Belladonna...
After I was poisoned , I had heart problems , and blood
pressure , for about a year...
I had a similar experience to her description...I had to
take my time , again...body soul reaction...anxiety...
And I was experienced in the technique...:uhhuhuh:
It is wise to be cautious , not afraid , in these matters ,
if one has had medical situations...

How recent was your heart problem ?
Started on March 31st. I had all the symptoms of a heart attack which they later said could have been a bad panic attack (although I wasn't panick-ie at the time, symptoms came out of nowhere). Went to the doc and they did an EKG and said it was 'perfect' so it wasn't a heart attack and everything looked fine. I wasn't convinced and still had some light chest pressure and random racing heart beat at times so they did a stress test which was clear. Doc says it's my anxiety (I have anxiety issues) and I need to be on a daily medication for it instead of just taking xanax as needed. So in reality I guess I never had any heart problems. *shrug* Still scary at times though.

So , they going to give you ativan ?
Well , it was good to find out , no matter what...
I just wanted to be sure...
So...Belladonna could be right...as could others here...
We all have experience in our own ways...
I would proceed , cautiously...you must let go , yes...
But be the observer of your system , as well...
There are those who recommend a "witness" , who
will make sure all goes well...silent , out of the way ,
but watching...
Some people can work with this , some can't...
See what works for you...

They didn't give me any medication. I need to see a psychologist for that (anything they give me cold conflict with my existing diagnoses so they have to send me to a specialist).
Since this past experience scared me a little I'll probably ask my husband to stand somewhere in the room next time and after a few silently minutes leave and check in on me from time to time.
Thanks for the advise and concerns :)
