I'm in the midst of applying for SSI and it's been a little over a year since I first applied. I'm on my third try, doing the appeals process. My lawyer is planning to send me to a doctor so far just for psychological testing and vocational testing nothing for my CP yet but anyway, it's been at least a week since the first phone call and I haven't been able to set up an appointment, they wanted me to check with my insurance, etc but I'm frustrated because I feel like they are beating around the bush. They gave two options (both are out of state) as far as going to the doctor but one is closer so I'm going to that one even though it's more expensive but anyway, I'm just so damn sick of this process. I know I'm not a fraud, I know I need the help, this is really bullshit.
I need energy to not just get assistance and my own apartment but patience and calmness. I'm literately going insane just waiting to get approved.

I need some tonight, I got into a huge fight with my sister today and her husband who are both mentally ill and I'm about to kill them to protect myself. He can get so abusive. She wants me to get SSI but she accuses me of fraud because of what I say to her and she never wanted me to fulfill my dreams. She just thinks everyone should be as low as she is.

Stick with it. Nothing's worth having if it isn't worth fighting for and when you get it you'll feel like you've earned it and not like a fraud.

I am sorry you are going through this bs. I think the gov't. is just trying to hang onto every penny they can right now so the boys in DC can drive new cars!
Good luck to you, and NEVER give up!!

Thanks, and I know people say you get SSI when you can't work but I don't think that's true of every disabled person. I think a lot of it is old fashioned discrimination and most employers won't give them a chance to prove themselves. I think that's my case. My sister got really mad at me because I won't say, I have the inability to work and I do use discrimination as an arguement for my case. I don't know I think she's just jealous and wants everyone to fail like at life like she feels she did :(

 You are probably right, right now it seems like no one wants to give to the poor and needy because of that and also we have the Octomom issue right now that's so public. There's many women out there that do have a lot of children to get as much welfare money as possible, she has little difference from them.
A disgusting, and odd irony I realized while I'm going through this and trying to be as honest as possible with the gov't programs is that if I was willing to get laid by some loser (or a few of the losers I've met recently) I could get pregnant and get on welfare/TANF much easier, Of course I would never do this but still it's an option when you're in a time of need. I wouldn't want to bring a child into my current situation.

I KNOW! Isn't that pathetic...with our state of the government I mean?! I am so glad I never did that. I am not saying that every woman on welfare has, but I know of someone I used to have as a neighbor who flat out refused to marry her boyfriend and father of the several children they kept having so she could collect welfare, pay $99 rent, and have parties all the time, and grill steaks and drive fancy cars. THAT disgusts me!
 for doing the right thing!

Thanks but it's tempting to do the wrong thing sometimes. Hopefully things will turn around for the better soon.

I hope so, only thing that is keeping me from finally getting a public housing apartment I've signed up for last year is the income.

Good night, my friend. I am off to feed pets and get to bed. I am nursing one of these::sniffl:
Hopefully, I will be on here tomorrow sometime. If not, I will try to be off and on. Take care and talk to you soon!:uhhuhuh:

Why are people telling me I don't qualify for SSI? :( It's usually a compliment but if I can't find a job my life is over. My own mom doesn't think I could get it; my sister thinks I shouldn't get it anymore even though she's the one who told me I should go for it. It really scares me, in my case I have few options if I don't get SSI, I live in like one of the smallest towns in America there's practically no industry.

Everyone gets denied the first time, most get denied the second. Just keep at it, it is a long and difficult process.
You will be able to work while on SSI, you just need to be careful about how much you earn. They will let you know the guidelines, as I can't remember them off the top of my head.
Now, you might also need to try for SSD. I don't know your situation, so you may not qualify for SSI.

Due to my work history I don't qualify for SSDI.

I'm wondering how that woman got by with just paying $99 per month rent and driving a fancy car considering that in my small, country region of Virginia, you can't get an apartment for less than $100 if you are on assistance. And in the town I'm moving to, it's like $57 a month if you have no income and approximately $200-$350 a month if you do have an income. And this is in low income apartments!
I don't know where you live but I know I live in one of the poorest and cheapest areas of the US.
