View Full Version : Witch Law...

In Robert Cochrane's sixth letter to Joe Wilson, he named what he called the Witch "Law":
Do not do what you desire - do what is necessary.
Take all you are given - give all of yourself.
"What I have - I hold!"
When all else is lost, and not until then, prepare to die with dignity.
I was just wondering, since there are many versions of witchcraft besides Robert Cochrane's, what people think of these laws?

I'd agree with those laws to a point anyway. I think they more or less cover what I believe. However, with the last one, I don't subscribe to giving up, ever. So I'd say, Never Give up, and die with honor and glory if the situation calls for it, otherwise die with dignity.
The other part that bothers me is "what I have I hold" I agree with that to a point, when it comes to the very important things in life, friends, family, pets, your home, etc. But not to material things which I feel are transient and come and go throughout our life. I guess my feelings are, Yes, dont' let yourself be taken advantage of, defend yourself and yours, but pick your battles and protect what is really most important.

I would agree with them. Especially, "What I have, I hold", because what I have I am to be a steward of, if I give that up, then I no longer have it, so it was given out of charity. But to have someone else act as custodian of what is mine limits that autonomy. The problem is I hold things that are intangible, love, family, friends too tight most of the time and it hurts to let it go.
That is if I understand it correctly.
