A mammoth clean-up operation got under way in the Gaeltacht community of Gweedore on Wednesday, following a freak flash flood the afternoon before that swept away parts of roads and bridges, and caused damage throughout the parish.

"It is a miracle that there was no loss of life," said Dinny McGinley, T.D. He called for an immediate audit to assess the damage to the area.
A heavy rain began to fall in Gweedore at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, but it later turned into torrential rain, thunder and lightning that continued until late afternoon

This is bizzarre what the hell is that about 20 foot of water in 3 hours? And people a couple of miles up the road were on the beach...

:jawdrop:

What's even more amazing is that no one was drowned.

Where did you get the estimate of 20 feet of water in 3 hours? It wasn't in the article you posted.

Holy cow. How close are you to this area? Did you have storm related issues by you?

( not familiar with Ireland)

Its local and big news cos its a Gaeltacht but the article says it was 20 feet and it started at 2pm and ended in the evening. 3 hours

EDIT:

My mistake it doesnt. The only article I can find with any kind of measurement is this. It just says that 8 foot pillars were comepletely sumberged by 7pm. I guess 20 foot was an exageration. Sorry.

Having been involved in a similar flood two years ago I can appreciate what the people went through.

It's very sad, however, that the British media didn't cover this story but did spend time doing several pieces on Obama killing a fly!

No biggie. I was just curious, that's all. Thanks for the second link.
