WTF is going on?

TMZ has confirmed TV pitchman Billy Mays was found dead today in his home in Tampa, Florida early this morning.

According to the Tampa PD, the 50-year-old TV pitchman was found unresponsive by his wife Deborah at 7:45 AM.

TMZ has learned Mays' body has already been removed from his home.

Mays had just returned from Philadelphia, where he shot a new OxiClean commercial. He was a passenger aboard a plane that suffered a blown front tire upon landing. He told a local TV station, "All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping. It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."

I am more saddened by this man's death than I am by MJ's. At least he wasn't a pedophile (as far as I know, anyway).

But I too wonder what the deal is with all the unexpected celebrity deaths all of a sudden. Is it something to do with the alignment of the stars? I know people die, but I don't remember so many celebs dying in such a short spurt of time... it makes you wonder who's next?

Definitely not a good time to be a celebrity...

Anyway, I kinda like the guy. I watched him on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien just a week or two ago and despite the yelling, he seemed like an okay person.

SS, you touched on it a bit, it is partially that I will always remember him for what he was...think back to when Bettie Page died...who really remembers what she looked like for the past 30 years of her life? Celebrities fill a time frame and will always be remembered for how they were during that time frame, even after they are gone they are still around

Also, as I said in the Jacko thread. I didn't know Billy Mays, he didn't know me, there was no real relationship, so I have no reason to mourn his death any more than I mourn every death that happens...which is not at all really.

Taking it one step further, even when it is someone I know/love I don't mourn, I celebrate their lives and remember them for what they were...some view death as a morbid sad thing, it is just another part of the experience known as life, no better or worse than any other point...and at the same time there is a bit of jealousy on my part...not that I want to die, but I look forward to understanding the truth about what happens after death.

So a parent loving their child is a pedophile? No..not exactly. A pedophile is someone who is sexually attracted to kids. Not "likes them"..as many people..like kids. That's way off topic for this thread, though.

MJ was not a pedophile. He was only two years younger than me. I had a childhood. He did not. With all the mental illness in that family, abuse and constantly being driven to make money, he grew up and made his own childhood. He had friends of his own emotional age. He made a play ground fit for a little prince, and played there with the other kids. His own safe place.
The notoriety followed him wherever he went and he could never have a normal life. That was not just him, it started in early childhood. Maybe he was just too tired and burned out to do this last tour.
Like all bright lights, he burned out. Just like all the other recent high profile deaths. No privacy. No decency from the media.
Put yourself in their place. And good luck with it.

Yes and no. Phile just means you love something, for example a Anglophile would be a lover of England, and etc. It doesn't have to be in a sexual way.

In contrast, hating or fearing something would use the suffix "Phobe". For example, a Homophobe is one who hates or fears gays.. but a Homophile I suppose would be a lover of gays.

I know that's not how its necessarily used, but that's what it means Etymologically.

Compassion does not equal mourning someone's death.

I'm with Memnoch on this. Death is a part of life.

Do I have compassion for suffering, yes. Do I mourn when people suffer, yes. Do I mourn when a person dies? If I knew them I might miss them, I might have regrets about things left unsaid. I might feel bad that I neglected to let them know how much I appreciated them.

Will I mourn them? No. Death is a change, neither happy nor sad. Nothing to mourn. Sickness, suffering, mourn that, yes. Mourn death?

Why?

Its all a coincidence. Ed McMahon was old and he managed to live longer than the standard male. MJ was (possibly) taking drugs and he died from a heart issue as did Mays. Another celebrity dead *shrugs*, what I feel from it is nil. I think people have too much of a preoccupation in the lives of the famous, they die too you know. It is not worth getting sad over.

Nick's Tips #93:

If someone's death does not direct to you personally, shrug it off and continue as normal. Personally meaning personal friend or some tie to your family, beyond that one should feel little to no compassion what so ever.
