I found this interesting as.....I did not know that Shamans used peacock feathers in healings................

The Peacock has many myths and legends surrounding it. The Peacock is the male of the species while the Peahen is the female. Like most species of the Bird Kingdom it is the males that display the magnificently colored feathers. Peacocks have played an enormous role in the Native American Indian culture and their feathers were and are often used for healing rituals and magical ceremonies; their beautiful and extravagant feathers were also used for making costumes headdresses and other ornamental pieces such as clothing and jewelry. Native Americans believe that the Peacock has strong medicine magic and many tribes consider Peacocks to be healers and clairvoyants themselves. Christians believe that the “eyes” of the tail feathers represent the all seeing mother church and further believe that the Peacock was a sacred bird.

I would doubt that "Peacocks have played an enormous role in the Native American Indian culture" because they are not native to the Americas.

"The blue peacock lives in India and Sri Lanka, while the green peacock is found in Java and Myanmar (Burma). A more distinct and little-known species, the Congo peacock, inhabits African rain forests."

As far as I know, there were not cross-ocean trade routes to the Americas before European invasion.

I have to agree with Skilly on the factual basis of their use in Native American shamanism but that doesn't mean that they didn't find or have signifigance across the ponds in other lands. I'd be willing to explore them from that perspective.

I absolutely ADORE peacocks. When we get our land I'm going to raise a few because I think they are a beautiful creatures, and the added bonus of collecting the feathers for creative and magical purposes. I want to make some fetishes from them.

I find this websites attributes ring pretty true to how I feel about what peacocks teach and remind us...

One attribute I think that is overlooked with the peacock is that of ego and pride. To me the male peacock is the epitome of pride in appearance. I think it reminds us to take pride in ourselves and put that forward.
