Just looked to see what's on TV tonight and saw that Dateline is going to have a story about the killing of a UCLA student - looking at whether witchcraft, cult activity, or his two roommates may have been responsible. I'm planning on watching to see whether they make witchcraft look horrible eeeevulll.

Just saw it comes up next, so I'll watch. I normally like Dateline alright, so hopefully they won't make me want to hate them for their ignorance. :weirdsmil

To me, it didn't turn out to be much.
It started to look like it maybe a 'blame the kids involvement in Wicca' but it went the other way.
I'm glad they did end up catching the murders in a 20 year old case.

I knew Ron. He was a really sweet guy who never had a bad word about anyone. I remember him being very quiet and sort of lost. I was so sorry to hear about his murder. No one at the time that I knew believed it had anything to do with any Wicca group he was involved in, and it came out a couple of years later that it was his roommates, that police had gone with the story to keep them from knowing that the cops were onto them.

I am curious as to why they are going over this now, since it is such an old story.

Could it be someones parole hearing is getting close?

I know every time Diane Zamora close to having a court date for something, all the movies and such about the Texas Cadet murders some back around.

Yeah, I don't know why they had to use "witchcraft" and "cult" in the teaser for the program when Ron's involvement in Wicca had nothing to do with his death. Gah... the media!

Oh wow, I didn't think about someone here actually having known Ron. Sorry for your loss as well as for his family - and to have to relive the whole thing again for Dateline, sheesh.

I don't remember an explanation for why they were bringing all this up again, so maybe that's the reason. I know one of the guys refused to take a deal from the DA and ended up with a life sentense, no parole. But it could be the other guy is coming up for parole.

MY bf is married to Diane Zamora's father...every time they do something with that psycho and her sentence...all the shows come out of the woodwork again. Its pretty sad.

But using witchcraft/Wicca in the tag line for that story was just ridiculous. there was no reason for it, other than Hollywood sensationalism ...as usual.

Well, for quite some time after his death, they were still exploring that angle. It was originally played up in the media to be related to his spiritual exploration, but remember that was almost 20 years ago. Today it would be less important. Perhaps.

Oh thats so true. What freaked people out 20 years ago, is a common occurrence now.

I found out about two half-sisters on my mother's side recently. (Long story, I found them on the internet, they were both adopted out...) I was a little hesitant to tell them my spiritual path. Turns out one has a niece who is Wiccan and one dated a pagan guy for a long time. We are everywhere now. :uhhuhuh:

Yeah, I agree, that was simply a sensationalist headline that had nothing to do with the story, just something to get viewers to watch that show instead of another channel. Bah.

The whole thing with muder in a tunnel reminded me of the crap a few years before Ron's murder with a kid who was involved in AD&D getting killed in a tunnel (or a cave) and the media claiming AD&D promoted "devil worship." Bah.
