What a person buys and where they buy it could have a devastating effect on a credit score, a government probe revealed. The probe found credit companies may be looking at where a cardholder is shopping and determine an interest rate from there.

I read one article that said purchasing items at an auto parts store could also make them raise your rates, as could going to a marital counselor. Honestly, those things are none of their business.

This is bullpucky. It shouldn't matter what in the hell I'm buying with a card, as long as I'm paying my bill on time.

WHAT? Well, #*$&! I'm definitely getting some cash out of my checking account then. I refuse to let that crap affect my credit score when I've worked so hard the past couple of years to start building up a history. I'm going to let my mom know, too, so she can start using cash some more.

Granted, I guess we both should be safe with our debit card, but ugh. Blah.
