Hello everybody!I wish to hear from you lots of ideas!I changed my mind about having a ritual and magic dedicated room, but instead I got rrom to build a magus tower with a magic room in it.Now about the construction,I really need help,to get my otwer into place,to be scared and useable 100 per cent, and a powerfull place for my magic and for my universe and studying.First the shape, should I make it round with a hexagobal or pentagonal room for ritual magic and a octogonal room for the library downstairs?I am really puzzled,I found confusing info and most of what I visual know about magus towers are from RPGs.:)) funny I know.I want ideas on how to make the decorations and finishes inside,I was thinking to make the floor black and to have a prntagram or hexagram and ankh painted in gold. Also practical but occult looking furniture ideas would be great, and efficient practice space to be organized in the same way,but nothing comes to mind as in decorating the space. How should the walls be built ,so it would be a great sanctuary, and how would they be painted?Fantasy is a nice ally, but I rather stick to real working stuff,of course I want it to look great, but in the same time I want to create an authentic tower.Thank you and waiting for pictures, links, especially your own ideas would be great. And should I place some beds and chambers in the tower?Just in case some of you want to visit it when it's finished! :)thank you!

Hi, but what the heck is a Magus Tower? Is that some kind of video game thing? If you're talking about building something like a special room or area to work magick in, I would tell you that it depends on what your tradition or path is and what kind of magick you are going to be working. It should be created based on your magickal and mundane needs.

A Magus tower is an ambitious undertaking. Very few were ever built and most were not built for that purpose, but adapted to it after a tower was abandoned by the previous owner or had outlived its previous use.

I do have an old text which describes the different stages of infusing the magic into your buildings that was written by an ancestor of mine who was a little obsessive on the concept. He has everything in there from what to mix with the mortar and the stones to use if building a stone tower, to herbal stains and infusing powdered herbs and blood into the paints used.

Though I will not part with the book for anything, if you send me a PM with a list of questions you have, I will provide you any answers the book has.

And here I thought Mage/Magus Towers were only an RPG/Fantasy thing lol...that's awesome. So the tower is built to enhance the workings done in it?

Most people come across the concept through RPGs, but a lot of people come across witchcraft through games as well.

Such towers have always been rare things as most people do not have the desire to take their magic to such extremes. Those who rent are somewhat limited in the lengths they can go to creating their sacred space. As with any space, the more effort you expend in creating it, the greater the power it lends to the workings done within it.

The basic idea is that just as you use stones and herbs for rituals, so too can you use them for infusing magic into a place or building. It can be as simple as having herbal oils blended into the paint you use on the walls, to the extremes of choosing every building material possible with magic in mind.

Taken even farther, the very objects in the home are also chosen with magic in mind. Many of us do a bit of this now. from the younger witches who pick their tools according to how well they can be hidden, to the gardeners who grow their own herbs for magical, medicinal, and culinary uses.

Some projects are quite simple. You could pick a simple mirror framed in pine and add your favorite protection stones, a couple of carved pentagrams, seashells, stones, and even paint designs on the framing and etch the glass. Doing it all at once might be more than most people have time for, but the same project can be done over a period of months. Just do one step at a time when you have the time. Over time, those little steps add up to some seriously intricate details.

I like to pick up wrought iron and wood furniture at yard sales and thrift stores and then restore them with magic on my mind. I use an herb oil infused egg tempera paint for what needs painted, and infuse herbs into the denatured alcohol when I mix the shellac for restoring the wood. I think I get a touch of obsession on the idea from my ancestor with the building fetish.:toofless:

Very interesting. It would be an immense help to consult the building instructions, for all stages of construction.Maybe your ancestor had this in common with me :) I always wanted to build one with my bare hands, infused with my soul's love, with my purest energy and power,a tower like no other ,that would shelter real magic and wisdom. No fluff alloed :)And therefore I want to build a Magus Tower that is authentic and correctly done, according to reality and real ,tangible methods.
About tradition, what if someone is eclectic?:)) I want to build my tower first for the very essence of magic, and I can't make up my mind for the structure. To be real and effective must it be round ,so the energy will circulate better,or hexagonal or pentagonal or what?I feel some things,I wrote in my first post how I would build it ,but would it be correct?I really want to make it authentic, not from some rpg or fairytale but reality based respecting all real laws of physics and magic guidelines...oh I know I'm so obsessed.:))...but I need to get this down and then look at it with pride and joy...and of course I will put many pictures here...

I feel so..it would be a gigantic pulsar magically enhancing every work made in it,also because the project is on levels,I will build the first 2 levels now,and then as I raise more money I'll go up...Would be cool if teachers from over the world would come and visit and teach others or speak about their traditions and ideas in a special room.I visualize the tower as having a library,a big ritual and shrine room,a meeting room/classroom but stylish made with comfortable places to stay ,soft pillows and gothic or fae or occult style atmosphere...I see it ...do you see it?It's seems just a dream now,but I'll work hard to make it true..and help of knowledgeable people would be a great support ..thank you for everyone that's responding...:boing:

There is nothing incorrect in the building of the tower as long as you are following the local building codes. The rule is if it stands strong and inspires, then it is built correctly. There are some bits of builder's lore that are constants, but they had more to do with common sense in building and builder's superstitions than any particular path.

Most of what you are going to look at for building is what purpose you want the tower to serve for you and the type of magic you practice as well as the area in which you are bulding. Are you going to use naturally harvested materials (in other words gathering the stones yourself, shaping the boards, etc.) or will you be buying processed materials (preshaped stones, precut lumber, etc). Either one is right, just as it is equally acceptable to either build your own tower or convert an existing building for your needs.

So focus less on what is "proper", and do not worry about making it look less like something out of an RPG. You alone decide its purpose, I am not going to be able to tell you what is required because little is. I can only help you with suggestions as to what might help you better capture that which you wish to.

First step, find out what the local laws are for buildings (especially foundations for buildings). Nothing worse than building the tower only to watch it fall due to a weak foundation.

The terrain is flat ,would be or 1000mp or 500mp I am not sure yet,it's a money problem.I have to wait for the government.I am to be in the First house government programme, and it's a lot of work.About the construction materials,I have good news, the prices have dropped to like 280-300 euro mp,and the individual matarials are much lower in price than last year.I am working in 3D Studio Max,at how I would like it to look,I'll post some pics when I'm done. Also,I got another great new,the project does not cost me any money, because it will be made by friend. The tower would be placed on the east side of the house,or I don't know but I want it to be near the house anyway :) In front of it I want to make a greenhouse, where I would cultivate vegetables and herbs for my experiments...

Hell, if I built a tower it would have a lot to do with RPGs. I know RPGs and fantasy aren't always on-target with their occult stuff (a WoW druid I had to talk to for a quest was going on about mana...wtf? :P) but the epic fantasy thing inspires me in both my personal and magical life :)

Another idea, Trueseeker, is to create an astral space. I did that, sort of...it's what a great deal of chaos magicians do. And you can build anything up there - no building codes, no physics, even the sky isn't the limit :)

Nothing wrong with doing both, but I personally hope Trueseeker does build the actual tower. If you have the money and the ability, there is nothing wrong with going the extra mile.

For some of us, home and hearth needs to be a little unusual, like the Mushroom House in Ohio.

Me, I would love to have this house as it is a home and Magus Tower all in one.

For those of you a bit more in tune with air and water, I present ..... The Cosmic Muffin

Last, but certainly not least, the StoryBook House in Ollala.

Definitely - I think an astral space is more magical (in the sense of awesome/cool/wonderful magical) but then you could really be the talk of the town with a mage tower :P

Of course I do. Can't have a unique house picture collection without the UFO house IMHO. However, as to which is more magical (astral or magus tower) I think we are going to have to agree to disagree. An astral tower is only built with mental energy. A physical IRL tower is built in the mind first and then in the real world with a lot of hard work. Physical effort adds a lot of power.

Plus, you get to add in that "talk of the town factor" because every person that is thinking about your tower is adding a little of their own energy to it.

i solved one of my issues, and talked to my cousin who said she will lend me 3000 euro, yay!

With this as advance money I'll go to the bank and get the 60000 euro from the gov programme. If you were wondering 60000 euros will be my whole budget.
That divided 2000 euro for my first car because I will need it as an utility,10000 terrain,3000 eventually legal papers and grants from the mayor, the rest is for the actual building.
Problems is,that maybe I would have to stick the tower in the new house plans,it's unsure if the mayor will let me build it as a separate secondary buding as I want to do,and hope the money will be enough.
Oh if I could just find a spell to make it grow and keep financed to get it done the way I see it.I am working in 3D graphics for a little movie, with it,forcing the edges of the poor programme because I'm trying to put exactly what I see into tangible visuals and it's difficult most of the time.

As further in ideas,it would be great,an astral space,I had experiences in the past where I would break from my body during sleep and fly away to an astral plane and when I came back it was like falling into a chaos crease, and hitting the bottom who was my chest.Wow that I'm writing this i realize I did not really discuss my experiences with knowledgeable people.

Ok,so far I have this structure in mind:1st floor a big room for practice where I will include altars for various traditions, because I want to study all,and i only have a small grip on what I want to be my magical path, and because should it have any visitors,I want everybody to feel comfortable and represented.

I want to build a tower for myself, but I want also to help others,so if I would have a group thing or study, the downstairs ritual and practice room would help them.I might put a colored water fountain,I like those, maybe put it in a central area, also a always fire place, also a always swriing air place, also a geode place, and a place representing the spiritual.

The room will be entered through a hallway that will have pictural glass walls so there would be a special light, and won't be accesible to mundane people, people who do not know the story of Isis and Osiris and the basics of magical pracice and the laws of friendship.

I'm working on a special mechanism, which is an original idea, that will protect the entrance to the tower.I am also working on outside security against thieves and unwanted guests like my mother for the tower.Maybe I'll put some cameras.

The upstairs floor, will be a little more divided.I want a library,a special room for working on items, like making supplies,it's about time I'll learn to make my own at home and have a special place for that :),an alchemy laboratory,I want to study it better, this room will have an alchemy library attached to it,and a big Mendeleev tablet on the wall, next a resting room decorated comfortable, probably with a bed and a table and a fridge and heater, just in case of too much zeal and devotion I'll waste my nights in study, not to make a long road to sleep in in this house(this is optional I'm still thinking about it),next room would be a big already done and organized supplies room, divided with perfumes area, oils area, herbs areas,staffs/tools area etc.

I think there should be more but I run out on ideas for now.Ah,and I want to make all the rooms round a circulating plaza with an obelisk in the middle, all rooms will have doors to the obelisk and the place would be frontally accessed by a discreet staircase. On the top of the tower,I mean the terrace of the roof,I will place a pyramid, for beauty and equilibrium, and this will also be the astral room/area.I will align it with Orion's Belt like the pyramids in Egypt,so it would be easier for me to communicate with the energy of my far away home.

Excellent ideas all.

You have put a lot of thought into this and it shows.

It will be a unique place that will inspire many. However, because many others will be jealous of you for having such an excellent place, I would suggest embedding a bit of black tourmaline in any doorways on the ground floor that people will use to enter the tower. Black tourmaline absorbs jealousy. You might also hang mirrors that face those door to reflect any negativity back out the door.:)

Black tourmaline is it rare to find or I can get it somewhere? Thanks for the suggestions.Do mirrors reflect back negativity too? Also I just got this passionate idea:how about if people would want to visit,to put the tower also on-line?And it would have all the useful tools ,rooms, looks the actual tower has in reality. So people who would not be able to visit in real time, still be able to visit the Magus Tower, and do research in the library.I am thinking of including calculating mechanics and interactive scripts and helpful interactive tools.Let's say a newbie wants to cast a spell and it's unsure he or she goes to my magus tower
introduces the data of the spell
and in a few moments the programmed engine would calculate all the possibilities.
and the outcome of that working.
