 My goodness, I 've never heard of anything like that happening to a crystal ball before......the only thing I can think of is it may possibly be real crystal instead of glass, and that particular crystal may change colors?

well i have a little egg that is suppose to pick up negative energy's and when it does it does get cloudy. cleansing should help. mayb this crystal is picking up on something.. sounds like you got yourself a real interesting gem of a ball hehee.. mayb you could get some other rock to put near it to absorb some energy s it may be picking up on? it could be some cool ancient ball that was handed down and could have an interestin history behind it. you never know.
if it s a clear quartz cryatal .. then they are to promote healing and do pick up on things..it could just be gettin use to it s surroundings and cleansing things for you? clearing ure chakras? the most important thing is how the ball makes you feel.. if you resonate with it.
a really good book on gem stones is Michael's Gemstone Dictionary. that is if it s a real crystal.
Hope this helps

Maiden, it most definately sounds like a true crystal. I collect spheres stones (only natural) and this occurs occasionally as the others have said, when the crystal picks up other's energies. (And yes, you can say it, I am a rock-geek.) :)
I think the most incredible one I have ever seen change was a fluorite sphere my mother had. When she bought it, it was this beautiful mix of whati I like to call "coke bottle" green (that pretty clear light green) with lots of deep purple to it.
She had it set in her living room and everytime I went to visit her, the sphere looked to be getting more and more murkey. Almost like it had absorbed seaweed into it!
This was quite a few years ago, but now, you can't see through it at all! The thing is almost completely black.
I was always sorry we didn't get pictures of it before it changed because it really was quite beautiful. But this was before we knew that natural stones can change with their surroundings.
I say, cleanse the stone either in a bowl of sea salt overnight and/or by the light of the next full moon. another thing you can do is to take the ball and hold it under running water as you picture all negative energies going down the drain.
I like to do that last one first and then place it in the bowl of sea salt. (Call it overkill, but I like to be sure.)
I hope you will keep us posted on this. I love this stuff. :D

hey witchy chick!
have you tried cleansing that fluorite? can stones absorb so much that they can never be returned to their original state? any one know?

Yes, Mom tried to cleanse it, but the colors never returned. However, it is still a very strong stone. She really picked a winner.
As for your other question: I've had some crystals that have disintigrated literally in my hand. I had a fluorite that I used to use just as a worry stone type of thing and it broke into pieces once when I was going through a really hard time. I was really sad to see the thing go like that. It was gorgeous!
Fluorites are good stones for giving themselves up for you. Some are very strong and will always retain their original appearance as when you got it, yet the vibes may diminish. Or, some change colors and then some will crack or break apart. Some will never change and still stay strong for you. :)
I have a few clear quartz spheres that I love. Some have light "veils" in them and one is depressing me. Whoever cut it didn't do a great job and where the machine was attached, a few pieces have chipped off. However, it is a BIG vibrational stone and I absolutely love it!
Quartz Trivia: Did you know that if you have a piece of clear quartz that has cloudiness to it or that it all cloudy it means that there was a big temperature change while it was being formed? Cold weather causes the cloudiness to occur. ;)
