I dont know either book but I can offer you what I consider better alternatives.

Books of Shadows arent Irish and if youre interested in IRish Witchcraft I recommend Irish Witchcraft from an Irish Witch by Lora O'Brien. Theres a preview on google books and it is basic but she has a yahoo group too if you want to ask questions and theres a sequal on the way for more advanced stuff.

For the language modern middle or old I would say you dont need to pay for it. There are plenty of good websites out there especially if youre looking for pronunciations. I actually think that forums are a better alternative then books cos the diversity of the language is better represented on a forum and community interaction is something no book can provide.

The Royal Irish Academys dictionary of middle and old Irish online. 80 years of expertise that no book can match.

The Old Irish E-List. If you want to know something about a specific word or phrase its probably been discussed on this list over the last 20 years and will be in the archives.

IMO its worth keeping in mind that Old Irish probably isnt representative of a spoken language its too strictly codified to be representative of a vernacular and learning it isnt a lot of use to a neopagan cos only a tiny portion of Irish mythology is written in Old Irish. Its really a properly educated linguists concern which noone in celtic paganism afaik is.

Had not heard of this book so turned to Amazon - but could not find it under the letters TDD by Catherine Clarkson. The title is actually An Irish Book of Shadows: Tuatha de Danaan (http://www.amazon.com/Irish-Book-Shadows-Tuatha-Danann/dp/1880090996). The reviews look promising, wish I could spend a few dollars on this book.

Let's not forget this book by my friend, Kevin O'Hara, if one wants to get a feel for Ireland as it used to be:

Reading Kevin's tale is almost to be there walking with he and Missie Mickdermot.
