View Full Version : Best deck for intuitive reading

What do you guys think is the absolute best (or *are* the best) decks for reading intuitively? I've been reading mostly with playing cards because I'm not too crazy about memorizing other people's definitions of card meanings. I want to rely solely on my own intuition when I'm looking at each and every card, before I even dream about looking up meanings. For example, if I look at a card and just have no idea what to do with it, that's not good.
Maybe I'm just lazy here, but I also haven't found that others' meanings or the "generic" meanings work for me, they just confuse me. I started reading with the Barnes & Noble deck (you'll see my other post) which is beautiful but not working. Then I bought the Golden Tarot which has quickly become boring and the cards all look the same to me. Any deck out there for purely intuitive reading, but more interesting than cartomancy with playing cards?

I've found that tarot cards in general are better for intuitive interpretation than playing cards, because they have pictures that suggest their meanings, and that provides a more direct link to the subconscious, whereas with playing cards you need to understand the relevance of the cards and the suits and whatnot, because there're no pictures to help you out.

I don't really have a 'best' deck for it.
But in my experience a deck that you're closely linked to or familiar with would probably work better.

If you are looking for a tarot deck....I would suggest The Rohrig Tarot (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/rohrig/). They are large cards with so many pictures and images on them it's unbelievable. The book that comes with them has very short meanings for the lower arcana cards. The major arcana cards have all sorts of planetary and Hebrew symbols on them for additional meaning. But the cards themselves have great pictures with many layers of meanings that they are easy to interpret and read without even looking at the book.

The motherpeace deck is best for me. I love it because I have the mini deck and they fit nicely in my hand. They're great. But I think that sort of thing is more of a personal thing. What works for you might not work for me.

The Gilded Tarot is beautiful, and I love it, and it's great for MY intuition.

I do this as well. I actually have a french tarot deck that the minor arcana is just playing cards with the knight as well as the jack. It's wonderful^_^

I use Playing cards and no problems getting good reads out of them. I've actually had some pretty outrageous reads. One time I was reading this girl's cards and I flipped the King of Spades (i like to call it the a** hole card.) She was having problems with an abusive boyfriend. as soon as flipped that card, the guy burst in yelling and screaming and cussing. The rest of the spread told what would happen the rest of night. Creeped even me out and I was reading.
Anyway, The interpretation I use can be found on the link below. the site also gives you different spreads, as well as explain the individual suites, and different card combo's. I found it much better than the fairy oracle deck I used to use. But thats just me.

I use the Gilded Tarot and love it, but I've been wanting to get my hands on the Revelations Tarot. That has the reversal meanings drawn into the card as well.

What may help is changing to a deck you don't use often, if you have at least a few around.
The Corto Maltese and Russian Tarot of St Petersburg are pretty cool for that- the Corto doesn't cling to RWS standards. It has loose watercolors and sketches from the comic of the same name (don't know much about the book).
You can recognize some similarities with other decks but the differences are enough to give you something new and jog the intuition.

It sure ain't boring. The imagery is surrealistic so it speaks more to the subconscious.

You might like aeclectic.net in general for looking at decks and deck reviews.

i second the deviant moon, although it's not the most optimistic deck in the world, at least in my experience.

What works for someone else on an intuitive level may not work for you at all! It all depends on what type imagery you relate to the best. You need to find that deck, because if you have a good bond with the deck, everything else will fall into place.
For me, I get excellent intuitive readings from a large variety of decks - but it took some time to find those decks.
