View Full Version : Evil Clowns? Re-Occuring Dream Help

Hi everyone. Here's the problem. Both of my younger cousins, age 10 and 8, have both been having re-occuring dreams of the same clown. They said that he is mean and is always trying to kill them. It's the exact same clown in both of their dreams. Any idea as to what an evil clown would symbolize in a re-occuring dream? And any idea as to why both sisters would be having the same exact dream at the same time? Any help would be appreciated..they are terrified over this.

You can Google for dream dictionary entries (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=dream+dictionary+clown) but essentially it's probably just normal kid anxieties showing up in nightmares.

The first thing that pops into my mind when you say evil clown is the one off Polterguist, then the one off Stephen King's "IT"!
May I ask how old the girls are?(--Opps, re-read the post! lol 8 and 10, got it!) Do they share a room? Now, I'm no expert here, the following is my conclusions and things I have found to be self evident.
When I was a young girl, between the ages of 8-11 or so (I don't remember my exact age...but it was about a full year), I would have just horrible dreams! I don't think I could have a good dream if I tried! I also noticed that when I was having these bad dreams that my sister (she's a year younger than me) would have similar bad dreams. (must have been the fear energy I was emitting, I don't know) We shared a room growing up.
The odd thing is, I dreamt of evil clowns, dolls and the like also! I remember dreaming about an evil doll going around killing people and I confronted it after it "killed" Marion Cunningham (from happy days, lol) and asked it why it was killing people and it said "because it's fun and I can". I also had a dream that my father had jumped into a swamp off a dock, encountered an aligator, and wrestled with it. He hadn't won nor lost. But then the aligator started chasing him, and we (the kids) were running infront of him for home. Mom seemed unconcerned on the couch reading a book when we told her, and the gator continued to chase dad until he got the upper hand and killed it, but not before it nearly took me! Talk about horrible dreams for a 10 year old! I never wanted to sleep again! I had these two dreams repeated for about 6 months or better. Finally, the nightmares stopped and I haven't had many since. I don't know if it was just a "phase" or what.
I think in our dreams, we try to face fears and work out and subconscious issues we may have.
Maybe if you could look into the "feng shui" of the room. How the beds are arranged, how clean/messy the room may be, if there are any open beams, if there is any sort of energy leakage, draining, or too much energy in the room that you may need to slow down. This is just one possibility. Have you tried dream catchers? Put one for each child in their bedroom window. I always bless them before putting the up, and energize them to collect negative dreams. Just a thought. I'm sure there could be other things as well that may help, but I can't think of anymore off the top of my head. If I do think of something, I'll post again.
Anyways, enough rambling! lol Like I said, these are only suggestions, and I don't know if they will be helpful or not. In any event, I am sure the girls will grow out of these dreams. They just have to hang in there.
Good Luck!

I used to have horrbile nightmares about werewolves at that age. Probably just a normal phase. A side note: Many people have clown phobia's.

I've got to admit, the first thing that came to mind is either somebody stayed up and saw part of the movie version of IT or they got told about the book/movie and were scared.
Aside from that, Mol's point of the clown phobia is a good one. Also, some children will have ... strange nightmares. It's just part of growing up. It's like how some people will be afraid of the dark. I think it's part of how they are progressing and developing in their awareness of the world around them, becoming aware of the potential for danger outside of the home.
In some respects it's a good thing, but in other's not so good. Problems with nightmares is a good example of that.
Umm... trying to sit here and recall some of my research into children and dreaming, the only thing I can think of that could relate to this is that perhaps there was a negative experience with a clown and it keeps playing out in their nightmares. Some children are afraid of people who wear makeup but if they can "deconstruct" the "monster" into the person, it helps them overcome the fear. You may want to suggest their doing that as part of their coping mechanism in the dreams.
I've heard it said that if you sleep with your head in the West, you'll be more likely to have bad dreams. I"ve also heard it said that if you sleep facing west, that you'll be more prone to nightmares. I think that's somethign that comes from the Plain's tribes and their approach to this topic. I'm honestly not sure, I can't even really recall where I got that from.
There was a phase where I was very bad about taking notes. Boy am I paying for it now.

I think that talking about it, and working through ways they can gang up and beat the clown, would probably be best. Aside from that, I agree that most kids have weird nightmares-my best friend had a re-occuring dream about a nun (she wasn't Catholic or in Catholic school) that still freaks her out to think about. When I have a horrible dream, and can't get over it, I try to envision different ways the dream would've ended if I hadn't woken up just then, or ways to deal with it if I have it again. I'm a very vivid dreamer, and I can naturally influence my dreams to an extent, so that might be why it helps me.
As to your other questions, I agree with mol that lots of people have clown-phobia; maybe they went to a circus and the clowns freaked them out or something? And my sis and I (22 months apart) have been known to have the same dream, and we don't even sleep in the same room. Are they really close to each other?
That's all I can think of-hope it helps!

I used to have a "clown phobia". I would cry and have tantrums if any clown got within 10 feet of me (so much for going to the circus LOL) and i was close to their (the little girls) age too!
It scared me that someone would want to hide to totally as to put on all that make up...and weird clothes...and wigs and things.
(ever notice they seem to have REALLY TINY eyes too?)
They also seemed mean to me....always hitting, tripping, poking...eachother. I never did find them funny.
the worst happened to me when i was five though....knowing full well i was afraid of clowns...my sister (who was 10 years older than me) and her friend dressed as clowns to "entertain" at my party. They didn't tell me either....
I was petrified when i saw clowns come out of my house....in trying to calm me down she finally told me that it was her.....i was so angry! i demanded why she was hiding.
Perhaps there's something being kept secret in these girls lives?
that's what i've interp.'d clowns to me for me since then.

The clown dust has the same effect.
