for some reason, every time I meditate, it seem that I achieve nothing but a spiritual clensing (not a bad thing.) Am I doing something wrong, or is it something that is blocking my mental path?:confused:

In meditation there is only stages on a path, not failure. Sure, you may take a step back occasionally (I do, often!) but you will go forward.

You wouldn't expect to win Wimbledon if you'd only just started to learn to play tennis - it's a similar thing! Practice! I voted 20-30 mins because that's what I always strive for everyday. Course, there are some days when it will not work for me, and I just get irritable with myself - it's better to stop and go back later, or another day.

If all you ever feel is refreshed, then take it for what it is - a refreshing break. It's still a gift, so enjoy it.

Well, just keep going :)

And on the time thing... well I say that is up to you, 5 minutes or 50 minutes if you like... doesn't really matter, just try to get into that meditative state :)

For me, If I can go 10 minutes without being interupted, it was a successfull session! Any longer than that, and I start to feel TOO relaxed,...to the point of being lazy afterwards. ;)

I find that the first few minutes are the hardest. my mind wanders all over the place. If I do that, I just start concentrating only on my breath -iiiinnnnn...ooouuuttt.....Then when I can calm my mind, I start doing more with the visualizations. But even with them, I find I get much more involved as the session goes on.

HTH!

I know a good meditation to try if you find it hard to keep your mind focused...

Its really easy, you breath in and you count, 1 ,and then breath out, count 2, breath in and count 3, out 4, in 5, out 6, in 7, out 8, in 9, out 10 And here comes the tricky part now you start over at one again!

This one is more difficult than you might think, but it is really good, because you must be focused and you easily discover when you are not (which obviously is when you've passed 10 and keeps counting 11, 12 etc.) :) Oki, if find yourself passed ten, and somewhere off around 14 or so, just start over, when you discover you've "lost" it, start over again with breath in and count 1....

Good luck!

Hmm... hi!

I don't get around to meditating a lot, lately, but when I do, I will myself to think of nothing, and then I let go the thought of letting my thoughts go.

That basically works with me. I don't have a hard time focusing at all. Usually, when my mind is void, things from my subconscious pop up or the Gods speak to me.

Brightest Blessings,

I medditate whenever i possibly can.
i go outside, away from my family, with a
candle or three, and concentrate on the flame.
Then I close my eyes and visulize the flame, then
concentrate on my breathing. I do that for over
twenty minutes, then I go to the visualization
stuff. After about 20-30 minutes of that, I go
back to the breathing concentration, picturing
the flame, and then to concentrating on an actual
flame..

LOL, I do this every Full, waning, waxing, and
new moon. My neighbor, who is a really good friend
of mine, thinks I'm strange for doing this outside
becuase of how close together the houses are in
our area. (He is Pagan, but all that means is that
he doesn't go with the mainstream religions, he
believes greatly in Science and Darwinism. I have
discussed many things with him on the subjects.) But this also freaks out a prep, that is also my
neighbor, and we are not on good terms. the usual
"Im better than you are, and you better not cast
one of your Devil-Spells on me!!" kinda thing.
It also scares the small, I mean small, children
in the neighborhood. (it's a set off from town
kind of neighborhood.) I really don't like living
here, but it is the only house my parents could
find in this town. We had to move from another
house in this town because it was falling into the
basement. And after we moved out, some other
people moved in, and now they're trying to sell
it! LOL.

I went for 10-20 mins. I have built that up rather slowly. Mainly at the moment I seem to be more centering myself whilst doing it, rather than meditating. I seem to be building a rather golden glow in the middle of my chest region. This has developed on it's own, and I am letting the state take me where it will.

I have never thought there was a set time to meditate. You lose time (in a sense) when you meditate. Many people are under the impression that meditation is something difficult, in reality it's easier than you think. Just don't go into it with the express intent of meditation, you are trying to MAKE it happen when you do that. Just allow it to happen, give it a part of your day and ALLOW it. You will be surprised at how much easier it comes when you quit trying so hard. You can even begin your meditation by reading or writing something, it alters your thought patterns and helps you focus rather than just sitting and trying to wrap yourself up in some sort of "package."

You don't have to force it and know that if it is not going to happen then there is later in the day, the night or even the next day. Just keep up the gentle persuasion and before you know it you will be able to slip into a meditative state with a great deal of comfort and ease.

I didn't vote...I don't really think about how long to meditate. Sometimes, it feels like I've been meditating for a long time & it turns out a few mins have passed. Sometimes, it feels like a short time but lots of time has gone by. I guess it's more the quality rather than quantity. It's more what I get out of it that counts. My favourite time to meditate is late at night, when everyone's gone to bed. That way, I know I won't be disturbed.

i don't really have a problem with how long i can meditate. i just want to know if it's sometimes over done. i can't do the whole sha-bang (visualize a place of peace. listen to the sounds around you. is there birds chirpping? the wind in the trees? now picture the god and goddess. talk to them. when you're done, slowly slip away....) i tried that. i got as far as a tree. *sigh*

but i like to look at a river, lake, whatever, and just relax. or lay down and just clear my mind. and out side i listen to the wind laughing, birds singing, squirrels and chipmunks playing. is that not meditation? i think it is.

but then again: everyone's different. right? ;)

What is the purpose of your meditation?

A meditation upon a question or issue should take only as long as it takes you to find your answer or resolve that issue. A healing meditation should take only as long as it takes to facilitate the healing effects. However, a meditation to strengthen your mind should last as long as you can. Most people can't meditate properly for more than ten minutes when they start, but with practise you can build up to hours.

Do not put on any music. Sit on the floor, preferably in the dark, with your eyes closed, look up through your third eye but visualise nothing. Keep your eyes closed, there should be no input through your senses. (Being stoned is ok, but not necessary.) You should see, hear and feel nothing. Ignore any thoughts or sensations. Don't fight them, just let them pass through without paying them any attention. First timers will now zone back in, realising only now that they zoned out in the first place. They will, glancing at a clock or watch, realise that they have lost time - usually around 15 minutes. More experienced meditators will remain aware, and will not quite zone out, rather they will zone 'up', and for longer, enjoying the experience for at least an hour. This is a strong mind.

The above meditation is the native american indian way of strengthening the mind, and it is very effective. Once you can go for more than half an hour, you will notice the effects as all of your cognitive functions improve, by the time you can last over an hour, you will have the strength of mind required to really utilise your psychic abilities and perform magick.

There are of course as many different meditations as they are meditators and reasons to meditate, so as long as you know why you are doing what you are doing, you can't go too far wrong.

I know this sounds *really* horrible and non-commited but I don't meditate. I would abosolutely *LOVE* to be able to, but a) I cant' find a meditation to suit me, b) I get all panicy 'cause I really don't have time to meditate, and I worry I've been doing it for too long, c) I forget!!!!!! I feel reeeeeeeally bad about not meditating *sigh* :( What should I do???
Actually, I might go and try different methods once I get off here.....

There is no law that says you have to meditate. A lot of us find it very beneficial, but its not for everyone.

You may want to make sure your Chakras are aligned and there are no blockages. There is a reflexology massage to clear the chakras from any blockages. I've heard many stories about people not being able to meditate. They could, but for some reason were unable to all of a sudden. They had a blockage and as soon as they got this massage done things were better than it was before the problem started.

I have found that when I meditate i lay on my bed and try and clear my mind of all thoughts and worries (which I know can be hard). For me I have made a place to go to in my mind that is very tranquil and soothing a place where I have no problems or worries. As I meditalte I concentrate on my breathe and go to that place in my mind. While I am there I clense myself of all my tention and what ever else needs to be gotten rid of. Like fear, anger and any other negative emotion so by the time I come out of my meditation I feel mentally and hopfully phisically better in some way.

I know it can be hard to meditate at times and sometimes tou feel you are going nowhere with it but just when you do not expect it something who knows what will become clearer to you.

Blessed Be
