Ghost/Spirit?Apparition?
I am very interested in other's stories of ever having an encounter with a Ghost?
Have you? Please do share:)
Included with this thread are some pictures of a cemetary less than a few blocks from where I live. It's over 200 years old. There is one tombstone there of a young man who died from a rattlesnake bite. There are also several there of some people, and families who, sadly, died from illnesses that there were no cures for at the time.

Last winter, I was making the 60 mile drive back to Tahlequah with my cat Freyja in the car. I'd been working and driving back and forth a lot, so I was really tired. To make it worse, I'd taken the wrong exit and it was going to take me an extra 45 minutes to get there.

I kept dozing off and couldn't stay awake, but there was really no place to pull over. I was literally asleep at the wheel and was jolted awake by the figure of a large ghostlike figure crossing the road in front of my car carrying a baby. It woke me up enough to be able to control the car as I went off the road.

It didn't occur to me for a month or so, but I think that this happened either the night before or the day that my granddaughter was born.

((((((((Freyja)))))))))) WOW!!!!
My husband had a simular incident. He was a truck driver for 30 sumthin' years. Well, one night, trying to push a looong run, lacking sleep for over 2 days, he was driving down some road and a man walked out in front of him. Bill swore he had run the man over so he slammed on his brakes....shaken, he got out of his sem-i and looked for what he thought would be the remains of some poor stranger on the road...but....he found nothing!
He believes this was his guardian angel giving him a message to take a break.

I see them all the time. Used to freak me out, but I'm getting used to it. I had a dark haired woman walk by me the other day, brushed my shoulder even. I screamed, thought someone had come into the house, then I realized what it was and I was like phew, okay, don't have to go grab a weapon.

I have seen apparitions all my life. Just one of the many gifts i inherited from my father, I guess. I've always been "open". We have a couple in my home right now. Oddly enlough it's a little girl and little boy. There is a woman also, but she is not the children's mother. I've never seen her, but I hear her alot and I see her shadow passing. The most bothersome entity I have experienced was a very negative one attached with the last place I lived. He meant us harm. You could FEEL the negative charge in the air. Thank goodness he didn't follow us. I like your caps that you posted. I know this should go without saying, but I trust that you had protection while you were there and after you left the cemetery. I've found that I tend to get a hitchhiker to follow me home when I have been to cemeteries, if I don't protect myself.

I had a horrible experience in when I lived at my boyfriend's house. I have since moved out and won't spend much time alone in the house. The first night I moved into the house, it was my father, my cat and myself. I slept in the master bedroom with my cat and neither one of us could sleep. My cat and I were very close, soulmates and were never apart. Both of us were anxious and restless, I felt that such anger, sadness and longing in that room, it was oppressive, but the worse was the anger, like someone didn't want either one of us in that house particularly in that bedroom.

The next day, before my boyfriend moved in I called his old apartment and said something is not right. Then I got in an argument with our neighbor because he didn't like dogs, and we have them. I did nothing to provoke him, but I got into such a fight that I almost called the police.

It seemed that while I was there everything fell apart. My boyfriend and I were constantly fighting, the pets kept getting ill, particularly my cat, he was almost constantly sick while we lived there.

What really convinced me was one night while listening to music alone in the master bedroom, with my cat. A cold chill came into the air, in the middle of August. Both of us, my cat and I could not move and we were both trying to get to one another. I saw images on the walls, a face, what appeared to be blood of some sort, and at that point concentrated on my cat's eyes and he on mine and I just kept chanting in my head for protection and to break the hold. Eventually, it worked and we were both able to move towards one another. We were both shaken and left the room.

Shortly after that my cat became very ill, and debilitated. He did pass on because of a brain tumor, but his previous symptoms were not consistent with his ultimate diagnosis. I don't blame the spirit for the brain tumor, but for the debilitated health and for him being so unhappy I do. I know, because I felt the same way, and he was so attuned to me and vice versa.

I moved out of the house because my boyfriend and I broke up yet again. After I moved everything has gotten better in my life and my boyfriend and I are doing much better. He is fine in the house as are his cats and his dog. I believe that I was the target.

The story we came to find out is that the man we bought the house from, had a wife who died accidentally, she was a dog lover, not a cat lover. And, when we bought the house his new wife, had one cat she was very attached to. What I can think is that the old wife was angry at him marrying so quickly and may have targeted the new wife, as she was VERY anxious to move, quickly, actually they already had another house, bought and ready to move in, they rushed us. I think that the spirit mistook me for her and targeted me.

My mother and sister, who are both open to spirits had a few things happen to them, but much more benign. They agree with me that something is there, but they didn't feel as frightened as I did.

That was my first and only experience. Aside, from visitations from my cat.

I've never seen a ghost yet but I've still got my eyes open. Ghost used to scare me to death before I got in Wicca but now to see a ghost would be a blessing to me.

I have seen them but I don't remember it. My mom told me about it. Both my older brother and I saw them, at different times but we were the same age when we saw them.

Plus my bed shakes at night. Now that is interesting!!

My experiences aren't as elaborate as some of yours... But I have seen 2 different figures in our house out of the corner of my eye.. They always seem to be walking up & down the hall, where our bedrooms are. One is clothed in white, the other in blue.

One night, I wasn't feeling too tired, but I had my lights out & was trying to fall asleep, facing my window (with my back to my closet). Suddenly, something fell out of my closet, making this aweful crashing noise. I thought it might have been one of the spirits, but I decided to wait for a while, to see if anything else would happen. Maybe 5 minutes later, I sat up & turned on my light.... But I couldn't find anything that fell.

One more experience: I was in my room (again) I don't recall what I was doing; maybe going to my cd player to turn it on or something, but I was right by my altar, when something slapped my butt. ( :eyebro: I know) I turned around quickly to see who or what was there... But there wasn't anything near to me. :blech:

I dowsed for the spirits once... They were in the attic, though, and I had no intention of going up there.

We have house spirits that protect the people in my house.
My house is very old, almost 100 years of age. My family has been living here for 20 years ( I'm 18 ). It's also made of a wood that most houses around me aren't made of anymore ( mahogony from what I've been told, that's pretty rare ). Anyway, a man who was a priest, his brother, who was an artist, and their mother or grandmother. How house is very, "religious" looking. Some of the closets have stain-glass windows like churches, and the rooms used to be seperated with sliding doors (got taken out). And we're always finding the brother's painting that he made or bought in our basement (We hung some of them up ). But the grand/motther had the farthest bedroom, the brother my oldest sister's room, I have the dog's room with my other sister (Yes, that's right. Their dog had his own room. It's large for a dog!). The priest my parent's room. The brother supposed died in my sister's room, and the mother in her room, which is now the office I'm typing in right now. I personally haven't seen the ghost, but both of my sisters have seen and heard them. My older sister saw the silhouette of the brother walking out of my other sister's room one night she fell asleep and woke up in the middle of the night. She said it was like in the movie "Casper" when he's invisible moving around and stuff. My other sister, had her door closed in the same room and through the crack she said she saw someone walk and stop in front of her room one night. She though it was my dad and called out to him, because she said she could tell it was a man. The guy just kept walking after a moment towards the farthest bedroom. About an hour later, she went downstairs and asked for my dad. He had been gone all day and had never came home, ONCE. My sister and I were downstairs the whole time too, and no one else was home. She freaked out of course. She also heard a women's voice coming from the farther bedroom one night. Thought it was my mom. She hadn't been back their in days. They were scared ( not me, I thought it was cool! lol ) until my cousin, who has some good clairyovant abilities said that the spirits in the house were protecting it and use from danger. It's believable, since we've never had a major hazard in 20 years *knocks on wood*.

oh goody!! i get to tell ghost stories!! lol
actually my mom and i were talking bout this the other night... when my sis and i were little we lived in a house that is actually right down from where i live now. we called it the birdbath house as it has a beautiful rock birdbath in the middle of the front yard.
well while we were living there we became aware of 2 'others' that lived there as well.
Sarah was one of them. she was a little girl our age (i think we were 5 and 6 at the time) and she used to play with us all the time. her favorite game was to try to get my sister to go into the attic/crawl space with her. at first my mom was happy because she thought my sis had an 'invisible madeup friend', (my sister lacks imagination.. long story) but after talking to the older couple that lived across the street she realized that Sarah wasnt made up. Seems when the house was built the family built it themselves. their daughter Sarah had been playing and fell to her death thru the crawlspace area. Mom told my sis NOT to EVER go play in the crawlspace with Sarah (it was just beams with the sheet rock between them). The other person there was Sarah's dad. He killed himself in the house after Sarah died, or so the story goes.
My mom would hear Sarah cry at night and would tell her that it was ok and that she wasnt alone and the crying would stop.
One night when my dad was gone mom woke up to the feeling of someone getting in the bed with her and she could see the outline of someone next to her but didnt see any sort of person there.
All sorts of things happened while we lived there. It was kinda cool but scary at the same time :)
My mom has a picture that has some weird smoky haze coming down from the ceiling in it and some other ones that show strange things... ill have to see if i can get her to send them to me but until then .. here is what the house looks like today! I had to run down and get a picture for you guys :) every time i go by i look to see if i can see Sarah looking out the window

When I was 14, we lived in a house with a pretty annoyed entity. My room always felt very cold, and very..I don't know, "Thick" I guess? I told mom and dad from the beginning that I hated that house. One night, a friend was over, and we were watching movies. We popped in The Amityville Horror, and the tape ejected. I figured maybe it was just the tape. We pushed it in again, and it played for about five minutes, and ejected again. Okay. The third time, the tape was SPIT out of the VCR, across the living room floor, and the television flipped off, then on. We decided to watch something else, and had no other problems. Another night, I got up and went to the little bathroom that was in my bedroom. It was the size of a small closet, with just a toilet and a sink. The door did not lock without a key. It was a one of those heavy wood doors. Since no one was in the room (or so I thought) I left it open. Imagine my surprise when it slammed shut. I tried the door but it would not open. It wasn't that the knob didn't turn, but that something was keeping the door closed. I stayed trapped in there for probably twenty minutes, afraid to call my mom, because I figured she'd think I was crazy. I said, outloud, that I wasn't going to panic, just wait until whoever was there was ready to let me out. The door finally swung open slowly. I got up, crawled in bed, and covered my head, shaking. My grandmother always said she heard a baby crying (I heard it all the time), and one night she heard something outside and saw the apparition of a young girl skipping rope in the driveway. I got violently ill in that house on several ocassions. When we finally moved out, the friend who sat with me that night told me she found out that someone had killed themselves in the house, probably in or near my room. We still don't know about the little girl or the baby.

When I stay at my grandparent's old house, I can hear my grandmother bustling around in the kitchen, and hear my grandfather calling her as he often did. I always feel her pull the covers up when I'm sleeping.

My friend not only sees ghosts, they seem to FOLLOW her. Her husband is pretty freaked out by it. We've both seen them in New Orleans, although she seems to react more negatively to them than I do. Even the bad ones don't get to me as much as they did when I was younger.

I've seen ghosts, sometimes without realizing it. I know
I've seen both parent's at their passings. Ask Lunacie and Albie,
I send them ghost pics and videos I find on line all the time Like this one:
here's the most interesting one I've seen (http://www.tinyplace.net/almas/photos.htm)
"Just had to send this one. There is a video at the bottom
of the page, where the homeowner pans around her kitchen
and dining room. As she pans into the kitchen..if you watch
along the bottom of the frame there is a little blond girl whose
eyes reflect back the light at you. She is looking directly at
the camera. The homeowner says it was taken at about 4 AM
and there were no children around."

I follow Luancie and Albie's advice and my own common sense, but
this video is intriguing...see what I mean and tell me what you think.

she also included a lovely picture of me and my sis out front on our first day of school (so i was 6 and it was 1977 and i wish i still had that snoopy lunchbox!!!)

Well, I've told the stories before...but I love this stuff so what the hell!

Let's see, have I seen ghosts...well basically the "Sixth Sense" was more like a documentary about my life (without the scary stuff). The first time I saw it I sat there thinking--THANK YOU! Someone gets it now!!!!!!

I see spirits everywhere. I've been asked many, many times to detect whether or not a house is indeed haunted and have consulted on whether or not a spirit photo is true or not.

Spirits seem to find me as well. I'm like a magnet for them. My father just told me two weeks ago while I was at his house that the two things that always follow me are "ghosts and rain." (Yeah, it rained a lot when I was up there. )

Jade, interesting that you said how you were attracted to that cemetary.

A few Samhains ago, I went to a local very, very old cemetary to pay my respects and to talk to those who wanted to be heard. There was one particual voice that spoke out very loudly. Even while I was on the other side of the cemetary, this hornary old voice kept saying, "oh sure take your time getting to me missy."

That was my introduction to Abner. Abner was a Civil War vet and strangely wasn't even from here. The mystery of why he was buried here is beyond me.

I did research on him when I got home that day. He was from Worcester, Mass and served in many battles in VA and PA. He was a tailor in Mass and was married just before he left for battle. I'm in CT. There is no logical explanation for him to be here. He had no family here and where he is buried, there are no other vets around him or on that side of the cemetary for that matter! He was not related to those who's tombstones are near his and this has been a mystery for me for about 5 years now.

I've written to his family members on sites like GenWeb and the only responses I've receieved also are at a loss for why this man was laid to rest in this area.

I had figured that the reason why he sought me out was that he knew that I could speak to him and maybe reunite him with his family. When I last visited him, I had to tell him how I've had no luck so far but that I will indeed continue the search.

His tone has softened now...unfortuately there is some sadness there. But he makes me laugh and that is why I like him so much. :)

Before I go, let me leave you all with a great tip for viewing ghost photos online--

Turn up the brightness on your monitor!

I found that some photos scan in very dark or because I keep my level at an almost 50% brightness, I used to miss things a lot!

For example, I once saw a pic of a Civil War Battlefield that looked as if there was only one or two orbs in the pic. When the brightness was turned up, there were actually hundreds!!!!!! (They were true orbs too, not dust or rain or anything.)

SMOOCHES!!!!!!! :smooch:

It seems the greater my belief becomes in Wicca the more instances of paranormal events happen. (SHRUG)

I have seen many spirits in Gettysburg--I found The Devil's Den so upsetting that I tried to rush my boyfriend through it. On "Little Roundtop" which was one area of fighting, I was standing and looking out over the fields and rocks and suddenly I could see and smell black powder smoke, I could hear what seemed to be muffled screams, and I saw several figures on the ground.
Also in Gettysburg my bf and I had gone out for a stroll in the evening after dinner and we were looking into the storefronts on Lincoln Square there. We were looking into the window of a hardware store when I suddenly realized I was looking right into the face of a man. He was in Soldier's clothing of the Civil War period--at first I thought it might be a re-enactor--but then I realized the face and body wasn't solid, and it was more like it was in the glass rather than behind it.
I yelped and jumped away from the building so fast it scared my boyfriend and made me almost fall over.
That night my bf made me tell him everything I saw (I was pretty shaken up at the time), the face was of someone I didn't know.
The next day we went to the house where Lincoln spent the night before delivering The Gettysburg Address (it was privately owned at that time)--well, it happened to be the building where I saw the face.
We were climbing the stairs to the second floor (where there is the room Lincoln stayed in), and when I reached the landing I froze. I saw a huge portrait hanging beside the door into the room, and it was of the man I saw. My boyfriend read the plaque near the picture (I wouldn't go near it!) and the man was Lincoln's personal bodyguard who had been with him that night he was working on the Address.
I still don't know the man's name, I've never seen or heard of him again.

I've had experiences at Little Big Horn and also at a local cemetery--but never as big an event as the Gettysburg one.

That is amazing!!!!!! I still have yet to go to Gettysburg but I will get there--I know I will!

The Mark Nesbitt books on the Ghosts of Gettysburg is a great series if anyone is interested.

If you've seen any of the Ghosts of Gettysburg shows on History Channel, A&E or Discovery (TLC too) then you will recognize the name. He is the foremost authority on the subject. And a cutie as well. :)

Does he mention that particular spirit I saw? I'd really, really like to know if others see him like I did. I figure he's there because that was a highlight in his life, perhaps he died before the war was over, maybe he feels he must still watch over Lincoln??

Hey folks for a perfect example of the "monitor brightness" experiment...go to this website:

Right on the first page, there is a pic of a woman using her camera with orbs around her. Play with the brightness on your monitor and you will see what I mean about other orbs and activity showing up! :)

*edited to add*

The name of the house Lincoln slept in the nite before the Gettysburg Address was the David Wills House.

Interesting that you say that.
I don't know why, for some reason...I am very drawn to this graveyard.
Hmm
Have they ever spoken or communicated with you?

When I was 5 or 6 (wasn't too long before my Dad passed), I heard a man and woman's voice calling my name. I kept saying, "WHAT??!!" They wouldn't say anything but my name. I thought it was my mom and dad, so I went to the living room, told them I had heard them calling my name and figured they didn't hear me answer. They said they didn't call me at all. I went back to bed and all was quiet. The next day, I went to church with my mom and there was a sermon that day that actually caught my attention. Go figure I would pay attention the ONE time the preacher would say something to scare the CRAP out of me! In his sermon, he told the congregation that if they heard Satan, and his dark angels, call to them, NOT to answer or they will burn in hell. WELL, I was 5 or 6, I didn't understand the whole concept of "metaphorically speaking". So, I thought that it was the "devil and one of his dark angels". Once I arrived home and told my Daddy, and I was crying cuz I thought I would burn in hell. He told me that I have a gift that others don't have. He appologized for not recognizing it the night before. He said that I had the gift because of him and sometimes it could be quite scary. He told me that I would see or hear spirits on occasion. Well, those two spirits showed up again. The night before my daddy died. Not only did I HEAR them, but I saw them, as well. They looked like they were from the late 1800's (clothes like Little House on the Prairie). I don't know if it was a coincidence that they showed up the night before he died, or not.

My Daddy made himself known all throughout my house after he passed. He would visit me every night, just about. He would sit by my bedside and talk to me, just as he did in life. Of course, my mother thought it was my imagination, until she saw me talking to Daddy one night. She saw the glow in my room and decided the next day that we were selling our house. My mother had always been afraid of Daddy's gifts and she was afraid of mine, as well.

Every where I have EVER lived, it has always been the coldest room in the house. Some folks can use an ouija board with no significant problems, but when I have in the past, I have had nothing but trouble. The first night I used the one I purchased, I had an entity come to my bedside and scare the hell out of me. It was the spirit of a little boy who was murdered. Why oh why would I have to see him as he looked post mortem. He looked so grotesque, it was scary.

As far as cemeteries, I have one in particular that has been calling to me. I keep getting called to this one grave in particular, as a matter of fact. I have not been there, as I have had some really bad health issues. I don't want to go in my weakened condition and put myself at risk, as I don't know yet what it is that is trying to pull me there.

Several of my friends have had negative experiences in cemeteries, which is why I caution about protection. Some were psychically attacked. Just remember that not all cemeteries hold the graves of good spirits with good intentions. Even if you are drawn there, it doesn't mean that it's necessarily a good entity.

Now my daughter has shown signs that she has the gift, as well. She talks to and "plays" with the little girl who resides here. From her and a friend of mine who also happens to be psychic, I found out that this little girl died on this property before the house was built. She and her brother died of starvation during the depression. I have seen her from the corners of my eyes. She is forever watching me cook. She likes that. I have noticed that most spirits seem to want to hang out in the hallway. My theory is they like it there because it is darker there.

My daughter told me several months ago (before the birth of my youngest), that her little friend kept wanting her to go outside (it was dark already). I asked why and she said and I quote, "little girl said it's cold outside in the ground." I said, "WHAT?" and she said, "Well, when her body didn't move anymore, they put her in the ground and covered her with dirt, and she says it's dark and cold and she's scared!" My daughter has never seen anything about death, dying or burial. I don't know if her little friend will try or be able to follow us (as some spirits cling to a certain place) when we move.

Not really ghosts but.. I see shadows out of the corners of my eyes when something bad is happening to my family.

After my grandfather died last August, I inherited his car. When I'm sad, I will smell smoke and firefighter's gear (if you've got a relative who's a firefighter, you know that smell) even though he never put his gear in the car, but in his truck.

And when something very bad is going to happen to me, there is a tall black um.. shadow - but not really a shadow - that I'll see. It startled me the first time. I was working alone (convenience store clerk) and it scared me enough to call the cops - who told me they saw a guy running through the parking lot behind the store when they pulled up. I thought it was the "shadow" I saw, but they said the guy they saw was wearing a white shirt. So who knows.

Where I live right now, there is a tremendous amount of shall we say, "activity?" lol

We've had two birdies die in this house that now watch over my baby Egg-Girl and she sees them often. We will be playing and suddenly her head goes back and follows something that is in the air. She's also tried to fly up to them and gets so frustrated when she can't physically play with them. But I keep trying to tell her that they are just there to watch over her and have asked them many times to be nice to my birdie and stop teasing her. :)

My uncle also comes for visits. All of the women in our family have been visited by him and his is the only picture frame that NEVER collects a speck of dust on it! He's also been known to throw that frame across a room to get our attention--which is no small feat considering the room is carpeted. I've seen that frame slide across the floor like it was on wheels!!!

We've also had a woman who comes to say hi. She mainly watches over my mother. She sighs next to my mom's bed and while I was away, mom told me that someone kept grabbing her by the arm. I believe it was the woman but I could be wrong--we've got a few "friends" who are here with us so it could've been any one of them.

There is a military man who also resides here showing himself to me frequently in full dress uniform. He was a Civil War soldier and his family used to own this land back in the 1800's.

His house was also used as a stop on the Underground Railroad and many times we've heard an almost "marching" sound of several people that I believe were maybe headed to shelter there.

My neighbor's who are also on the same floor as us (and they share a wall as well) have also had frequesnt activity. The wife once asked me if I ever 'heard' anything unusual (also to guage my reaction when she asked the question lol) and when I said yes, she seemed so relieved! They have a lot of stuff that moves without reason and her two dogs are often visited by our 'friends'.

When I was away, my mother said that "you may be gone, but your friends are certainly watching over me!" When I asked what happened, she let me know about the 'arm' thing and also that someone would throw our plastic storage containers off of the top of the fridge and down our front stairs!!!

I personally found it pretty amusing.

Amazing!
Ya know, I really don't know what I'd do if encountered by a ghost. In one aspect it seems like it would be terrifying, and yet exciting.
I can't really say I have had any encounters with ghosts except for in dreams.

WtchyChick: Yes! That is indeed the house! The David Wills house.

The David Wills house, top right (http://www.civilwaralbum.com/gettysburg/borough4.htm)

The window where I saw the apparition is on the side of the house facing us (regarding the picture), it's the window behind the tree. I don't recall a tree there at the time--but it was almost 3 years ago...

I also felt different presences in the room Lincoln stayed in--since I am a very big Lincoln fan and I've visited Ford's Theatre and the house across the street from it where he died--and stood on the site where he made his Gettysburg Address--I may have just been overwelmed by emotion--but it did seem more to me than that, and it didn't seem to necessarily be Lincoln's presence. Oh, I wish it had been!!!

I'm sure you've heard this before but one of the guaranteed places to see Lincoln is the White House.

I kept searching for any ghost stories involving the David Wills house and it was a bit hard to locate. However, I assure you...(and ask Semele lol) once I get my mind made up to find something, I WILL find it!

I love reading all of these stories! Jade, thanks for the thread babe!!! :smooch:

Visitations from your cat? Do you still get them to this day? What happens?

The last time I had a visit from my cat was about 4 months ago, he's never been in this house, but at a moment when I was distracted and stressed with finals, and just in a bad mood in general, he appeared on my couch, curled up on the blanket I had just been sitting under. Prior to this visit, he came to me when I was depressed or needed reassurance. However, the day he had to be put down is the most memorable, 4 of us went to the Emergency vet and when we were driving back home, we all glanced up to the clouds and saw a cloud that was clearly shaped like a cat running. He hadn't been able to stand well let alone run, for a while. He and I were especially close, soul mates if you will, he saved me from suicide more than once. So, I believe strongly that he and I are still linked, and forever will be.

I have twice. Once was about 2 year ago, my mom was outside taking care of garbage and my bf and I were at the sink doing up the dishes and it was about 8pm. For some odd reason we both looked out the window above the sink at the same time saw a woman in a beautiful white gown by our neighbors clothes line and then my mom came running in with a odd look on her face and I knew why so I said Yeah we saw it too. The second time was about 2 months ago I was sitting at the pc around 3am and I looked over to see a small blonde lady/girl staring back at me and I blinked and it was gone.

My aunt came to visit me after she died to let me know that she was allright. Dunno if ya consider that a ghost or not. She looked more angelic than ghostly.
I do see shadows out of the corner of my eye a lot and tend to hear "people" off in the distance, call out my name.(It's not a common name either.) I do have a "pest" here at the house who likes to hide things from my hubby and I though. And I have found my back window in my car rolled down about 2 inches after it rains, when I checked it before the rain and it was up. Noone is ever in the back of my car either.

If I ever actually saw a ghost,I'd prolly have to change my undies! :falloffch Hearing one or feeling one....ok,but to see one..... :ahhhh: I don't think so!

yay, i love talking about this stuff.
well, i have has various experiences all of my life. im one of those people who are just a bit more sensitive than others. some days i go along like there isnt anything out of the ordinary, and some days i wake up freaking out because there is someone standing in my room. i go ghost hunting, i have pics of mist and orbs, i need to scan them in to show you all. when we go im the "go out and find them" person. im walking around in the dark yelling "ok, i feel something weird over here, take a picture". there are too many stories of things that i have experienced to put here in any resonable length of time, lets just say i am well versed in the subject

This may be an awfully long post, but I'm so glad that this has been brought up. I've been wanting to ask about something for a while now, but didn't really have the motivation to do it, or the energy. But here it goes. Here's just one story, the weirdest story.

BACKGROUND: I see ghosts. Actually, I don't know if they're ghosts, I don't know what they are, but it's old news. I've been seeing them since I was very little, experiencing strange things, and my mom had some similar experiences when she was younger too.

For a while, we wondered if it was related to depression or even schizophrenia, just because I was seeing so many strange things. Then my mom started experiencing things around me too.

One example is when we were staying at a hotel and each had separate rooms, connected by a door. I told her that I was experiencing cabinets opening and closing, water turning on and off, things being thrown, and odd... um... air-like noises (like someone making a quick SHHHHHH sound). Well, she started having the same things happening in her room. We actually got so freaked out that we saw a priest, who basically laughed us out of the church (apparently priests don't believe in demons anymore?).

I see all kinds. Men, women, children, and now even animals. I have two Shih-Tzus at home, and now I see a THIRD Shih-Tzu, sometimes only hear it. I started seeing it, my mom started hearing it. It seems I see things and she can only hear them or see the effects of them.

At one point, she was at an ATM late at night and I was sitting in the car. She had instructed me to lay on the horn and make a lot of noise if I saw anyone approach her and cause trouble. Well, when I saw a man in black jog up to her, I almost hit the horn... until I realized he wasn't "real." She turned in his direction, as if she heard his jogging, then went back to doing her thing at the ATM.

When she got back to the car, she started to tell me about how strange it was, that she heard someone running up to her very clearly, but no one was there, and wondered if I had seen anyone. She stopped when she saw me staring at her with tears in my eyes. I was relieved that she'd had such a clear experience of something I only saw, because sometimes I wonder if I'm crazy too.

Ok, but enough about that. That's only a fraction of my experiences, a brief run-through. This is common, it doesn't concern me, I try to ignore it. But I'll say this:

Not only are they different ages, sexes and now even animals, apparently, but they sometimes notice me, and sometimes they don't notice me at all and don't even seem to be aware of the reality I'm aware of, the room I'm in, etc. They're never transparent, but sometimes I just see the "shadow of a person." Also, my experiences... the um... intensity, I guess, increase/s with time, which I'm only realizing this year. Which brings me to...

... WHAT I'D LIKE OPINIONS ON:

They've started to talk to me, I guess. This is NOT normal. They don't speak to me. They look at me, they stand there, they sit there, they see me, look shocked, then disappear, they look scary, they look normal, they try to make me leave rooms, they watch me, they ignore me--- whatever. They do NOT speak to me. Until recently.

A few months ago, I awoke in the morning to a young, friendly male voice that was very close to my head, saying, "Hey there."

It sounded so normal that my first thought was that someone was outside my window and just sounded really close, or that my mom let a workman into our apartment without knowing they'd need to come into my room.

Arriving at the latter thought actually scared me a little, so I quickly opened my eyes and turned my head, and I was... very confused when I saw what was there.

First of all, this was way closer to me than I actually expected, despite the fact that the voice was so close. So my eyes weren't exactly focused initially. All I saw was a blurry mass, which I thought was my own blanket bunched up beside my head. So I thought, ok, either someone's behind my big, bunched up blanket there, or my blanket's talking to me and we have some big problems here. Then my eyes zeroed in on a hand. Yes, a hand coming out of the blanket, and that was when it all came into focus.

It wasn't my blanket, it was a very old sheet of my grandmother's (still living) that we had in the linens closet in the hallway. It's never used, never taken out, I see it every time I go to get a fresh towel. So here's this sheet, this white, floral-patterned sheet, and it looks as though a person is beneath it. It looks as though it's over someone's head! And furthermore, this someone is resting their head on their hand, which is exposed.

So at this point, I didn't know whether this should strike me as incredibly scary or incredibly silly, but either way, it was really disturbing.

He was kneeling on the other side of my bed, which is twin-sized, leaning way over to my side, as close as he could get, with his head settled in his head. In fact, he seemed so settled that I got the immediate impression that he'd been there, watching me, for quite a while. And very close to my face, ok. He was too close to my face.

THAT disturbed me, the thought of having been watched for so long, and the realization that someone had been in the closet to get a floral sheet to wear over their head, then decided to come into my room beneath it in order to watch me... and then greeted me so cheerily and normally. The whole thing was just wrong and I didn't know what to think. I mean, was it a crazy person?

But I don't know. Like I said, when I see these "ghosts," or whatever they might be, they are not transparent. So how do I know they're not "real people"? Well, I sometimes don't initially. But somehow, very quickly, I realize they're not "real." It's only for a split second, upon the surprise of first seeing a stranger in, say, my bedroom, that I consider it may be an intruder. But it's like there's some intuition involved that allows me to so quickly know they're not real.

So that's what happened in this case. I realized he wasn't real, it just took me a minute because the situation was so odd. It was a lot to take in, and a lot to try to figure out when I'd just woken up. I didn't know how to react.

I also have to say that I'm very used to seeing ghosts or whatever, and so it doesn't even scare me, I just ignore it as if I have a mental problem. But THIS scared me. This really scared me. WHY was he under the sheet? The sheet just REALLY disturbed me!

So I did what any insane, irrational person would do. I said nothing, but reached my hand out to him, and I felt his face through the sheet.

Ok, I can't explain my thinking on this, people. I was half asleep, I was groggy, I wanted to see if he was real, he was right there, he was talking to me... I do not know WHY I touched him. But that's what I did. I felt the cavities where his eyes were, and I felt him close his eyes when I did this, I felt his nose, his mouth... and it was all real. It was all... hard. I mean, like touching a person's face. It wasn't as soft or mushy as I'd have imagined, and my hand didn't go through at all. It was so... real.

And then, again, I made a totally irrational move. When it actually hit me, and please remember that describing the scene takes more time than it actually took to think about all of this, it only took up a minute or so, I was really scared. I was so scared that I suddenly felt animalistic. Someone who wasn't "real" had been watching me sleep, decided to wake me up like that was completely normal, had been in my closet, put on a sheet, was kneeling by my bed, and I just touched him and the guy felt real.

I got so scared that I actually became angry... like... violent. I don't know, I felt rage... it's like the terror turned into rage. I can't really explain it properly, but... as I started to remove my hand from his face... instead of putting it back at my side... I punched him. I punched him in the face, as hard as I could. I don't know why I did it, I just got really scared and it was automatic. I wanted to hurt him and then run away really fast and go get my mom.

So I hit him and I immediately felt bad about it, when the quick thought had become a reality. I felt my fist hit his human face, his realistic, flesh face, and I had hurt him. He kind of moved back, slumped to the floor, like going from his knees to his butt, like his feelings were more hurt and he was more shocked than physically hurt, then sank down behind the side of my bed, and then he was gone. I peeked over the edge and nothing was there, not even that sheet.

So I went and told my mom, and then she told me I was dreaming. But I mean, that's what woke me up. I didn't have a second waking, a real waking, after this or in the midst of the experience. This woke me up! So I wasn't sure, but it was so weird that I just kind of wanted to move on. It really freaked me out.

Well, so later, that evening actually, we heard noises in my room. My mom told me to turn my radio down, when it hadn't been on, we heard things moving around, what sounded like pounding or something, and she told me to go check. I walk down the hallway, push open my barely-even-touching door, and I see a guy. A guy, no sheet, normal clothes, young. Late 20s, maybe? Early 30s? And he's examining my nightstand, on the same side of the bed the sheet-clad male had been kneeling.

When I walked in, I think I said "Um..." which is what I do when I get nervous and am about to flip out. He had been kind of hunched over when he was looking at my nightstand, but straightened when he heard me, turned, looked really shocked and kind of stumbled back. When he did, he kind of bumped into this bench that I have against my wall, which is covered with stuffed animals -- stuffed animals that had been balanced in that way for many months, over a year.

So I'm standing at my door, frozen, he stumbles backwards, into the stuffed animals, then he drops forward, to the floor... but intentionally, like someone dropping to do push ups... but he did it really awkwardly, kind of dorkily. It was all very human.... And my stuffed animals all tumbled after.

So at that point, I wasn't scared anymore or at all or near a freak out at all. I actually wanted to giggle, because it was kind of cute and he was *way* more scared than I was and kind of overreacted... although I guess I can't talk after punching him (if he was, indeed, the same guy at all). I walked over to that side of the bed, actually expecting to see him laying on the floor, covered in stuffed animals. But instead, only stuffed animals. He'd disappeared into the floor again, I guess.

I went out and told my mom, and she came in to look at the stuffed animals, as if that was evidence that it had really happened (although I could very well be a total nutjob and have walked over, knocked them over myself, walked over to my door, then, thoroughly deluded, saw some pretend man knock them over, instead of remembering that I had done it).

In any case, I would really like to know what the hell this was all about. Can someone please tell me why a ghost would wear a sheet? I mean... I know that's a stereotype. My only guess is that maybe he thought he had to in order to be seen, maybe he remembered that stereotype and thought that was all he could do to be seen. And then when he was just looking around my room later, without the sheet, he was terribly shocked when he realized that I could see him even without it. And he was probably afraid I was going to beat him up again.

I'd like to know what people think. If I read this, I'd say I needed to be on medication -- and trust me, I'm considering it, but I often see things that my mom can't, and then something will fall over where I see the person, or my mom'll hear them. Just a few days ago, I told her someone was taking my stuff and putting it in rooms I don't even use, hiding stuff from me. She thinks I'm sometimes quick to assume things are ghosts, but then we heard something loud in the bathroom, right after I said that and followed it with, "I know you don't believe me," after seeing the smirk on her face. When she walked in to see what it was, it turned out that it was her hairbrush, floating in the toilet. And that made no sense because it was on the bathroom counter, far away from the toilet.

So basically, I understand that this is very odd, and I would be seriously seeking some professional help and heavy duty medications if my mother hadn't seen evidence of this stuff too.

Thoughts?

I'm bumping this thread up so that they can see your question, Pook. (And you're not crazy - otherwise I wouldn't have *heard* the man you *saw* at the ATM, and all of the other experiences you *didn't* mention in the post. Plus, I'm approaching 40, and my own experiences have been going on since I was 13, too... so I can relate. Obviously, it's either some weird inherited thing, or else we're both bonkers. In which case we both belong in the loony bin, and we can be roomies. <g>)

That is incredible! Well first off if this gentleman comes around again, I'd apologize for hitting him!!! After all, if he's going to be visiting you--you don't to get on his bad side or have him scared of you. He's there for a reason and felt that you could be trusted....but there was that little um, bump in the road and the trust needs to build again.

Now.....what do you know about the history of the house? Has anyone ever died there? What was the land before your house was built---meaning, do you live in an area that was active during say the Civil or Revolutionary Wars? When you saw this man the last time, did you notice what he was wearing?

I don't think you're crazy. Far from it. What I do think is that this person needs contact. Whether it's for help to finally cross over or just because he's lonely and you looked like you had a nice face....whatever. If he had wanted to hurt you he certainly had ample time and reason to do so. But he hasn't and he's come back to you even after you 'hit' him. I do believe that was the same person who came to you before. Is he a tall man with dark brownish hair and high waisted pants? (Sorry, sometimes something will come to me as I type.)

I say, talk to him. Take a few deep breaths and see if you can find a way to communicate with him. Even if you have to put out some paper and a pen...or take out a tape recorder and ask some questions out loud...you may not hear anything but you may be among the lucky few to get an EVP recording of this person.

Just be friendly to him from now on. He's with you for a reason and I have a feeling it's going to be good for the both of you. :)

(Just wanted to share.) :T

Um, I had left here for a year so I never posted this (nor did I get that roll of film developed yet) however....

I went back to Ft. William Henry last Summer complete with my regular camera, my digital camera and my video camera w/nightvision. I had heard all about the ghost of the warden of the jail that is in the basement of the Ft. and even though the Ft. had been rebuilt years ago, this man's very angry spirit was still there walking up and down the dungeon as if always keeping his eye on his prisoners.

I actually got the opportunity to be down there by myself. I had been down there earlier with my father and gave him one of the cameras, but I wanted to do a little 'hunting' on my own.

So there I am, all 4'11" of me (yes I will be 35 this November but still!) and I'm walking around and talking and basically taunting this man to show himself. This was possibly the DUMBEST thing anyone could ever do and I've certainly done enough 'hunting' to know that you must NEVER EVER do this--especially when you are alone!!!

Anyway, nothing is showing up that I can see. I knew I'd be sitting with the video tape later and searching the pics but I wanted proof and I wanted it now!

Then I felt it. The most horrible energy that I've ever felt. It scared the living hell out of me but I wouldn't show it to him. I kept shooting pics with my regular camera and finally grabbed the digital and said, "ok you moron you're so tough to try and scare a woman? You show yourself to me NOW!"

And it was then that I shot this pic:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/wtchychick13/FortWillHenry1.jpg

It was up against a brick wall so there was nothing to reflect any light. There was just nothing but bricks. I saw the image come up in the viewer window and got the hell out of there!

Of course being the idiot I am, I thanked him. I thought it might piss him off if I got the last word in--and a kind word at that!!! :rotfl:

Ghosts. Seen them and felt them most of my life. When I was a kid I didn't realize I was the only who could see these people. Living people thought I was talking to myself. <shrug>.

The worst experience I had was regarding the death of a female co-worker. She died on the 5th of July. Drowned saving her son. Before the long weekend I had told her if she was going to the lake to take her life jacket with. She thought I was joking. Then, the night of the 4th I dreamed I was her and I couldn't breath and was surrounded by water. On the night of the 5th I dreamed of flowers at her cube. Came in that Monday and there were flowers at her cube and people were crying.

A couple of weeks after her funeral I had taken a day off. Was feeling edgy and kept dreaming of her so I deliberately "invited her in". She didn't know that she was dead and she didn't want to leave her son. I never saw her again after that day but I "experienced" her death twice. That was what was scary.

As much as she loved her son I doubt if she crossed over. She is probably with him - always. Peace? I don't think I will know that for real. As long as I dream people's endings and can see ghosts. But for the most part ghosts more intrigue me. I figure I see them for a reason. Some, kind of stick around for awhile. Some come and go. <shrug> Either that or I have some kind of mental defect that hasn't been diagnosed yet. :)

Yes - The first and, so far as I know, the only time I saw a ghost was in Savannah Georgia after doing their Ghost Tour. We got out of the tour bus at Centennial Park Cemetary to take a break. I was mesmerized with the surreal appearance of the cemetary at dusk with the spanish moss everywhere, old tombstones sat crooked and broken in some places, I could not take my eyes off it. As I walked along the cement path just outside the cemetary, I raked my left hand across the iron fence never taking my eyes off the graves inside. Afterwards we returned to our room.

We had rented a room in a Bed and Breakfast called "Joan's on Jones". We took the bottom room with a fenced in back garden since we had a dog with us. This room was at one time a kitchen for the entire Victorian style home back in the day.

The next morning as I woke up, I rose out of the bed and looked out the bedroom door. For a fleeting 2 -3 seconds, I saw her gossomer image walk from my right to my left just outside the door. She was lavishly dressed in period attire of the 19th century. After I came out of my initial shock I went to the bedroom door and looked around outside of it into the main living area which was very small.

Joan, the owner of "Joan's on Jones" (Jones is the street in old Savannah) said just a few days before that they aren't aware of any ghosts in their home. I did not bother telling her of my experience. I don't know why.

Sowelu,

Yes, indeed I did. It's a whimsical cemetary, almost a characature of what cemetaries are.
If I can, I will attach one in a PM for you.

My little pest is getting braver! I came home from work yesterday and the tv was on and today a light was on in the kitchen. It's starting to annoy me a little bit!
I think that the closer it gets to Samhain, the worse it becomes. :yikes:

Nope I haven't, but i'm pretty sure i'd freak out and scream if I ever did see a ghost/spirit. I don't know if they're actually "Scary" but i'm sure that i'll be terrified as anything if I ever saw one.

I've found that I tend to get a hitchhiker to follow me home when I have been to cemeteries, if I don't protect myself.

hitchhiker...oh, no. What happens with these spirits? I mean, do they eventually leave? We go to cemeteries all the time, and that would explain so much. They don't build up, do they? Because, when I bought my house last year, the atmosphere was pretty sterile, no spirits that I was aware of. Now, I'm not so sure. There is something unsettling in the basement. Not scary, really, just unsettling. It seems like all of a sudden, everything is falling apart or down or breaking, like the drains in the basement backing up, etc...
