Hello everyone. I just wanted to share my experience I had last night with ritual. It was so beautiful to me. Last night, after everyone went to bed in my area, I went outside and did ritual on my porch. I had a small cauldron fire and burned several black candles to honor those that have passed before me. Before I started my ritual I set up my porch for what I was going to do. I put black candles around me to ward off negativity and I salted and saged my area. I didn't formally cast a circle but I did a "visualization" circle, which I have only done once or twice before. Well after sitting there to say the least it was beautiful. I had a small fire going in my cauldron and I was burning some basil leaves and sage to ward off any negativity that might be out and about that night as well as today/tonight. Anyways I had also placed some small pumpkins oas offerings on my steps up to my house. I figured that the offerings would be taken if they were needed and what not. Anyways, I cut a doorway and went inside to get my tarot deck and I came back and several of the pumpkins were gone leaving me with only two. I was excited because I looked at it as someone was taking my offering. It made me feel good. So I sit down and play with my fire in my cauldron and behold...I was amazed at what I saw. A white dog came up on the far end of my deck and stared at me, sniffed the air for a bit then walked away. I felt the dog was a message for me, so when I had finished my ritual I came inside to do some research and I was amazed what I found.

I found that dogs represent a lot of things but one of the things that struck a cord with me is that dogs are warning you of some comming negativity, or they are spirit guides. Upon more research I found that dogs, in the Celtic Faith, are held as a very sacred and powerful animal. I'm not going to go into extreme detail or anything like that, but it was a beautiful thing to me. I felt such a connection with the Lord and Lady last night, today I feel great! I am just so excited about my experience. After going back outside again, I noticed that some more of the pumkins were gone, leaving me with only 1. Now, I'm pretty sure the white dog took the pumpkins to play with but still, it struck a cord with me. I see the magick in it. If that makes sense.

Anyways, I just wanted to share my experience with everyone. I thought it was beautiful and I am extremely excited about what has happened. I'm sure that you can look at it several ways, but I am going to look at it as an extremely spirtual experience. My husband didn't think much of it, but me, man, it was something I will remember always. Just wanted to share with you'all.

Happy Samhain!

IrishGIrl...there is also a tradition that says that a white dog is the spirit of a departed loved one returning to you. Thank you for sharing your experience. My own Samhain experience was a bit odd. In August, I was acquired by a tiny gray kitten. Last year I "lost" my very special little gray cat. If I figure right, this little fellow was born on or near the anniversary of my other kitty's passing.(hmmmmm) Friday night, when I began my ritual, my little gray kitten climbed up on my shoulder and rode there the whole while as I cast my circle and called the quarters. Once that was done he seemed satisfied and retired to the sofa and slept through the rest of my ritual. All of the cats were in the room, but none of them entered the circle (a first since they always participate in any ritual I do). When all was said and done, and I finally went to bed, I had the most peaceful and restful night's sleep I can remember in many, many months. I'm not entirely certain what transpired that night, but I do sense that it was very special.
