View Full Version : Dreams within dreams?

I have not done much study on dreams, so please forgive my ignorant questions/comments.

When I was a child I often had a recurring dream where I was in a very comforting place, would open a door and have an enormous force push the door open from the other side. This would lead to being chased through a labrynth by a beast of some kind. When I "woke up" the beast would be in my room. It would stare at me until daylight, then go out the window. As I grew up I assumed that it was just a dream within a dream, though it felt eerily real.

Until a few weeks ago I hadn't had that dream or a dream like it in over 10 years. About 10 days ago I woke with a start and looked over toward my door and saw a man, whom I know, in my room. I began screaming and had to be woken up by my roommate.

My question is, can a person project themselves into a dream? Can that person or spirit stay once you have woken up? Am I nuts--only half kidding.

I have had a very hard time sleeping since this has occured. As a child I never slept out of fear of that "thing" in my room. I really do not want to pick up those poor sleeping habits again. Information on this will ease my mind and allow me to sleep.

Thanks so much for humoring me.

Oh, you remind me of my roommate. She has dreams like this all the time. She says she actually wakes up and sees them in her room. I am not sure if this is true or not, but I have spent many nights trying to fall asleep with the lights on.
I don't know what causes these, but I know my roommate has a problem with claustrophobia, which could be the reason why the figure stands in front of the door. Your mind could be telling you that you are trapped, and can't get out.
I suppose some would say it could be energy that you project yourself or it could be a visiting spirit. Which makes me wonder, do you have many encounters with spirits? And if you don't mind me asking, what relationship do you have with this man? This all could come from you feeling very vulnerable in your room while you sleep.
I know my roommate's problems started to stem from her parent's fight when she was little. Her room was right next to theirs, so she heard all their fights. This could have steamed from something that happened from your childhood, a past life, or just a really bad movie you saw.
The only thing I can say is that you are not crazy, and you are not the only person who this has happened to. But if you want to figure this out, you are going to have to ask yourself a lot of questions, and it always helps to have a good friend to talk to about it too.

I hope this helps you a bit, and good luck in your search for answers.

A dream within a dream.
I've experienced that, very bizarre and disorienting but mine wasnt scary,in my dream i fell asleep in a ruined cottage and dremt something or other (which was very dreamlike), then later "woke up" in the cottage and continued the 1st dream (which was very vivid). When i actually woke up IRL i wondered why i wasnt in the old ruined cottage :)

People projecting themselves into your dream.
I've heard of this happen before but dont know enough to comment.

crazy.
Not crazy, but it could be a sleep disorder of some form. I've had sleep paralysis for donkeys years but it almost disapeared until i went on, then came off medication for another problem, that seemed to trigger a flood of "episodes".

Ok that does it ,,LOL :) I been reading this book about astral travel in dreams,,
and the book continual speaks of vivid Dreams in color means our spirits leaving our bodies of this world and going (Home) to the other side ,
weather we are Travling to our past lifes or to one of our next lifes,,
if it is in color we have astral travel in our dreams ,, I dont know weather to beleive all this i read ,, but alot of it makes sense it also has five catagories of dreams,,,,
The Prophetic Dream...
The Release Dream...
The wish Dream...
The Information or Problem-Solving Dream........
Astral Visits.........

I think i am going to do a poll to see how meny thinks this could be so and there views on it ....

Here is a example in the book that comes close to your Dream ,k,
"Chased By Something Evil"
Example--- " Most of my dreams involve trying to screem for help , or I'm trying to run away from someone who wants to hurt me.. "
Exam 2---- "I always have horrible dreams about someone chasing me or just generaly being very frightened of something i cant see"
The book calls there's dream ,,,,
"Quote"
To a hand full of you that are pleged with these dreams as a result of you or a loved one having been victimized by violent crime,, She calls these dream Post - traumatic stress...

Other parts of the book that speak of someone being there dark unknow shadow in dreams ,, she says is visit from your spiritual guide ...That our subconsious minds are spiritual in touch with our guides and that they visit us in our dreams sometimes scaring us when we dont realise who they are ??????
Well i have had dreams in past that i was running from something and when i stop to think about it i did have something tragic at the time happened ,, so that part can make sence ,,,

I can also say i havent had Bad Or scary dreams since i been on my path ,, Weird dreams yes ,, but bad and scary no ,, hummmm

well i have a book here myself i bet, yep dang Sorry so long there ,, I tend to get carried away ,, I am sorry ,, ......
Blessed Bright Day,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Merry Part

I have dreams within dreams almost constantly, it seems. I really hate it 'cause it happens so often that I often can't tell reality from dreams. I'm not even sure if I'm dreaming typing this reply or not. O.o

Anyhow, there are some people who believe that when you dream of somebody you know, it's them just visiting you in your dreams. Some people say otherwise. It's all in what you want to believe.

*edit*
My roomate and I don't agree with the vivid dreaming thing (just our opinions). We both constantly dream vivid/colorful dreams and if that means we're going 'home', we sure don't wanna go home.
