After posting 2 replies, thought I'd better introduce myself.

Found this site at the weekend, and spent hours perusing the 'Just Talk' pages - loved it.

Got so engrossed that i forgot there were other catogories until today, really happy to find a druid site - wonderful not to have to answer the ever-present question "Whats a druid?" Haha

What DO you answer in a one-line sentence on-line?

I normally point people to the British Druid Order, or the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids web-sites, thinking that if they're really interested they'll take a look and get a fuller answer than i can give them, if they're not, well, I've not wasted my time.

Anyway, am very happy to have found you all, and pleasantly surprised to find some other Brits here (I'm from Kent)
And i look forward to spending many happy hours with you all.

Blessed Be

Here in the States I usually point out the ADF or Imbas! :D
I'm sorta the resident egghead, tend toward the more reconstructionist type rather than otherwise.

The one liner? I go for "A kind of celtic pagan....."

Maggie

Like everyone else your thoughts, questions, comments and opinions are welcome. This is a YOUR forum.

As to the answer to the druid question

Tell them to go to MysticWicks.com. and check the Druid Forum.:D ;) Personally I tell people that Druids are the keepers of the Earth and I pray to the One.

Welcome aboard again and be welcomed in

Glad to meet you all, thanks for the welcome.

And yes Twig, I will certainly point people in this direction now; have already done so but none have shown up yet, unless they're incognito!

I know what you mean about being the keepers of the earth, but can't help feeling it can appear slightly arrogant. There are many environmentalists who care just as much, but who are not druids or pagans. It sounds like we might be putting ourselves 'above' them, which we know is not the intention.

I don't hide my faith, but only talk about it if questioned. Usual one is 'are you a witch?' because they think i look like one! (what DOES a witch look like?) Normally say i'm a pagan now, it's easier to explain, and i do get tired of having to justify my beliefs to non-belivers, none of their business.
Occasionally i meet someone genuinly interested, then they normally end up getting involved in my circle of friends and various gatherings, which is great.

Anyway, I'm glad to be involved in this circle of friends, a fantastic bunch.

Blessings

Good point! It does look a little elitist when I read it from another perspective. Although druids were considered the first "tree huggers",8O
Wiccan and most all other pagan paths can make the same assertion with equal vallidity.[sp]

So with MANY apologies to the paths that I disregarded with that callous remark, I'll change my answer.

A Druid is one who worships the Gods and follows the beliefs of the early Celts.

Or, a kind of celtic pagan.8O
