I was just wondering, Have you ever seen yourself die and you wake up hurting like right where you were stabbed or shot?

It hurts like hell to die in your dreams. I've been shot, stubbed and fallen off a cliff and I've got to tell you it's not fun waking up, it down right hurts..........

I die often in my dreams. I only wake up with pains when people I care about die in my dreams.

i can't remember ever dying in my dreams...i fly in a lot of my dreams, or sort of float, but never die, although i have dodged bullets and knives and the such...it's odd, come to think of it, it never hurts, i never 'feel' pain in my dreams...

Yes, but only once that I remember, when I was a little girl and very sick with a high fever. It wasn't painful for me at all though - I just sort of floated up and away, through the ceiling of my room, and up above roof and tree tops, into the stars, and just kept moving up, as if I was standing on air and it was cushioned all around me. When I woke up and told my mother, she sort of freaked out because she'd been worried about me being sick already, and my dream undid her a bit. Actually, I believe it was her reaction that's cemented the whole experience into my memory; otherwise I think I would've forgotten it.
Autumn Clair, what is your impression about your death dreams? Do they feel like warnings, or the remembered energy of a past life? How long do you feel the pain afterward?

Two vivid ones I can remember. But they didn't hurt. Perhaps they were not painful 'deaths'.
Shot in the head - that was weird because I actually got up in that dream and saw that bullet hole in my head! I thought to myself, you're dead. Then I woke up.
Drowned - I only remember the last bit of the dream where I jumped off this 18th century ship and just drowned in the sea, like black out.

You know I never really asked myself that. My husband would say to me, "When you die in your dreams your dead so you must have waken open." He believes that old tale if you fall in your dreams and hit bottom you die. So I just kind of laughed it off like I have nine lives.
But to think about it I don't think it's a warning because I haven't worked security for a while I've taken leave for a family. And I think if I were working then it would have been a warning dream, things like that tend to happen a week or two before the incident. So, I've roled warning dream out.
Past life, maybe but the time frame doesn't fit for me it feels like a now type of time. So, I roled that out.
Maybe it's me dying in another realm. LOL though I'm not to sure if I believe in that stuff. You having several lives thing.
It could be Prophetic, I've almost run out of family time.I said I'd be going back to work once the girls were both in school so that would be next year. My girls are 9 and 5 now and I've been keeping up with things to go back into the field more advanced.
You know that's the closest one it would feel like, it's kind of got that vibration to it but then it's got that I know I'm dreaming thing so you know I'm not sure.
I just know it's painful as if it's really me being shot, I'm really dying feeling, burns, and pain like a gun shot would feel. When I wake be it a chest wound, gut wound, it hurts when I wake my hand is over the site and then I'm fully awake and the pains gone but the memory is well to put in my mind like I just saw my safe die AGAIN.
We have another thread for Dream control and things like that that's where we talk about prophetic dreams, warning dreams and so on.
If you have any ideas what you think it means fire away. I'm listening .....

i've been killed several times in my dreams. once i fell off a mountain, .. i had a dream several times where i was shot and killed by a sherriff point blank to the face. i had another dream several times i was shot in teh back with a shotgun, and i've died a few times of being stabbed, both in the back and in front. yeah.. it sucks. the pain seems to go away when i wake though, but i can still sorta feel it.

If this is your first instinct about what it means, then it's what I would follow because nobody knows you better than you. (Even though I think we try to hide things from ourselves, which is one reason I think dreams are so important - they bring us back to look at all of our faces within.)
Then, if I was facing this, I would ask myself why going back to work is like a painful death. And if it is too painful, then is it what you should be doing? Perhaps it's not going back to work, but the type of work, and it's telling you to explore the options in your life. What is ending, and is it important? And what lies beyond that "death" - does that frighten you? If so, is the fear the source of your pain, or something else?
I certainly believe that you are trying to tell yourself something through your dreams. You'll discover the message!

Hoot I've actually enjoyed my time raising my girls and it was my chioce to stay home
with them. To me the first few years of life is the most important your children get a good base start and know your there and love them unconditionally, you'd have to thru all the diaper changes and vomit.LOL :)
And I'm looking forward to going back to work, I'm excited about it new fields are opening up for me and I like the challenge. So, I don't think it's a psychological understanding of the dream. In fact psychology was one of my other studies. But, good try............
And let's just hope it's not a prophetic dream..........

I hope it's not prophetic, too!
In any case, I forgot to add something important! I view (and again, this is just my opinion) all pain, of any type, as at least a little bit of a warning to stop and attend to a problem or something that's harming you. In a way, pain can actually be a little bit of a gift if one considers that it alerts us to problems in time to make them better. Discovering the source and reason for it can sometimes be tricky, but I think encouraging that introspection and self-diagnosis may have been what the prophet Jesus meant by his biblical advice, "physician, heal thyself." Or maybe I'm just going on....

I've only died a handful of times in my dreams. It hasn't hurt me when I woke up, though, but I think that's because of the way I died. In most of them, I fell, most memorably, through a hole in the floor into the basement, where I recall feeling the shock of impact and nothing more. The only time I died without falling or through any other violent means was when I had a dream that I was being made a vampire. (Now, for all that I do like vampire stories and I'm actually writing one, I really *don't* actually want to be one in real life. Exploring the idea is one thing, the reality is something waaaaaaaaay different.) That didn't hurt, either, because I was so accepting of it in the dream.

I've had several dreams of death that I can remember, and probably a few more that I blocked, cause they scared me so much.
The most recent dream of death I had was when I saw myself lying down with 10 swords stuck in me, just like in the Tarot card, 10 of Swords. I was going through emotional upheavals at that time, and I am almost sure it was related to that.

I've never died in my dreams (for what I remember anyways) but I have had dreams where I was going to die...
I had one a couple months ago where I was in a plane that was going to crash. It was one of the scariest dreams I've ever had.

I have seen my self die in dreams but I don't view it as bad. In dreams death is often a symbol of change of some sort. As I grow I have death dreams when a change is coming to my life and I feel the pains I have when I wake up are simply growing pains.

I don't recall seeing myself die, but I have seen myself dead.
I remember being at MY funeral in this particular dream.
Everybody was looking at my corpse, and at my ghost wondering what was going on.
Shortly after, I woke up at 6:18 p.m.(I used to work late shift then)
I got out of bed and the phone rang, it was my brother telling us that my dad had passed.

I have died many times in my dreams throughout my life. The honest truth about it is that death dreams are a good thing, not a prophetic vision of your future demise.
Dreams of death represent a new begining within your life. Dying in your dreams has a grand meaning towards rebirth within yourself and a change of direction you may be following. Being as we see death as such a dramatic, life-altering (well, naturally it would be life-altering...as it would be an ending to your life...) situation in our culture, the mind presents it as a large change within your own personal waking life.
Death is good...at least in the dreaming world.

I think it's most often good, too. But transition isn't always easy, so maybe the pain encountered simply represents the fears one must face to create that change? Sort of like "growing pains" - leaving something behind in order to move forward? Just wondering out loud here...

That is a very good assumption, Hoot. And I can fully agree with you on that theory that the mind must confront itself to move foward. Dreaming is the minds way of sorting and further examining events that have happened during the day, and so I agree that death dreams are almost like mental "growing pains", as would be most nightmares.

Well, I'm hoping that, anyway, and in some ways this explanation does feel does feel right to me because it's the first one I'm instinctually drawn toward.
It's odd, but just this week I have dreamed three times that my husband and I were murdered, each time in different ways, but each very violent and usually somewhat protracted deaths. Each time, we were overtaken, attacked and beaten by a gang of thugs, and my husband was killed before my eyes. I was forced to watch, and my agony over watching him suffer was ridiculed. Last night I even woke myself up crying and screaming "No!" just as a knife was being plunged into my heart.
Even if these are dreams of change and hard passage to another place in our lives, it's still upsetting and very unnerving for me to even recall. I keep hoping they aren't anything prophetic, and tell myself to stop worrying over it, but...
Does anyone have any insight into this beyond what we've discussed? I would appreciate it.

Well, kinda. I've drempt of being shot, and of being stabbed. But I don't know if I died or not. Some psople, including my mother seemed to think I am a reincarnation of my grandmother. she was shot to death by my mother's second husband, while trying to sheild my mother from him. This is ofcourse about six years before I was born.I don't know if when I've drempt of being shot if this is my reliving a painful experience from a past life, or if I'm dreaming of what's to come in this life. :hairraise I do dream prophetically quite often.

Whenever I see myself die in a dream it never hurts. Hmm.
One time I was having this dream, and I knew some man was after me. I ran into a house of a stranger (but at the same time, I knew them) for safety, and the man followed me . He killed the parent figure of the house, and the daughter of the house and I ran outside into a large, grassy area. Suddenly, he caught up with us, and stabbed me.
I remember it was kinda like a movie view thing, where my body was lying on the ground, and It was like the camera was zooming out and upwards, almost until it was a birds eye view (if that makes any sense).
It was more odd than anything else. :)
Everyone's insights have been really interesting too,

I have never actually see myself die in any of my dreams, though I have seen myself be stabbed and felt it, and I have seen myself be shot at but wake up before the bullet hits me, or once I jumped off a building and woke just before I hit the ground.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to have such dreams, including being victim of murders. I think the one I was still in pain from, was about me being a genetically ingeneired slave. I was locked up in some center, and it was terrible, and I wanted to commit suicide. I had already done it before but they had resurrected me. So, I ran away from the place, stole a car (it looked like a car) and created a accident. I woke up on the ground, in front of the car, with the windshield in my chest. I died there, happy (it didn't hurt at all). But my creators brought me back to the center and resurrected me again. They used a weird technology for that. This was the painful part: being brought back to life. It felt like being burned, and stabbed, and chocking... I was still in shock when I woke up. More I think about it, more I think it was a past life, because I've had a few dreams about being the same genetically engineered slave.
