View Full Version : Lost Empathy?

I'm one of those blessed/cursed individuals that possesses empathy. In my high school days, it seemed to be out of control especially with one of my good friends. Every time something was wrong...I would know and feel like she did and have to call her and ask what was wrong and talk her through everything. Another friend of mine would 'transfer' her menstrual pain to me. This is not something fun for a guy to experience...lol. Lately, however, I've not been experiencing too many things and I'm kinda thankful for that b/c I learned how to control and supress this ability but now I'm beginning to think I've totally blocked it out and I'm incapable of it now. Is that possible and does anyone have any advice?

Lucius,
Try this link.
The people on thier forum are really a great bunch of people.
if you go there, I'm 'Sister'. (Haven't been there in awhile).

I'm sure that if what you seek isn't there that someone may be able to help you find info or give you some ideas.

oh, and be glad you only picked up on menstrual pain, and not that of childbirth! ;)

There's a great thread about empathic abilities right here on MW:

When you pick up pain (or whatever) from someone else, you don't have to hang onto it you know. Drain it off, ground it, send it to the universe. It doesn't belong to you, eh?

Lucius, you may be shielding yourself, more than you're aware of, from more than you can handle right now. I've done that, particularly in my adolescence. But Flora and Lunacie have given you some great advice and directions for for learning, in my opinion...

My thoughts exactly. I'm not much of an empath, but even then, I shield off as hard as I can. It might just be your body can't handle the stress and built its own shield.

Yeah...BUT, funny little side story for ya: Eventually, I stopped getting her pains and our group of friends were wondering why they just stopped all of a sudden. It ended up that she was PREGNANT...I never had the pains again and she ended up admitting and telling us about the pregnancy.
