View Full Version : Positive Thinking for a Good Decision, please...

Well, my job is being changed. I am an IT professional, so this field is in itself usually in flux, but I had been at this particular place for about 3 years. Now the entity that uses my company for its IT support is wanting to get rid of it and then turn around and hire us internally. I know: that's a good thing. Pretty much it's been said that we will all be hired on with them.
But I've always thought that if the second chance to get out of IT came to me, I would take it. Now I'm feeling scared to take that leap. I really can't do anything else. I would love to make a living doing my dragons, but that's not possible right now. There are bills to pay and kids to support.
It should be a given to take the offer they will present and go on with business as usual. But why do I feel conflicted in this? If anyone has a few extra moments to think positive energy my way, I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks.

Hey DC. What a decision, huh? Toughie. Definitely sending you clarity and strength to do what is right for you. :hugz:
(and here's my take, tho you didn't ask for it: if your hunch is to stay, then stay. There may be external forces at work here, rooting you to the job for reasons that aren't clear to you right now. I'd go with instinct and then if the next opportunity to get out comes along, feel that one out and see if the time to leave is right then instead--is that clear? LOL Feel like I'm babbling alot lately!)

(((DC))) Sending you lots of love and energy for strong, clear insights into your personal goals, balanced with the wisdom to gauge your practical needs. It will all come together for you at some point if you work for it - and only you and yours really know whether or not now is the time, or if it's better to prepare yourselves for this a little more first. :hugz:

Everyone on my team was called into a private meeting today. We are all to be offered a package of some sort to convert over to the new company. This is good news. I think I have come to a sort of inner peace. I will get to stay with my co-workers, who are more like family than aquaintances, and I have gotten the impression that the package will be on par with what I'm getting now. No guarantees, of course, but not that far off.
I still would like to live in that fantasy land of being able to concentrate on my dragons and live the bohemian life of an artist, but I am truly blessed with my work friends, and I know it.
There will be still the negotiations to go through, so I'll still be grateful for any extra positive thinking that can be spared for me. I'm not a very good negotiator, and I'll need to have my wits about me.
Thanks, MW!

If you're feeling conflicted, then something about the situation is not sitting right in your soul.
I don't know how much money you'd be giving up - but I can tell you that if I had a husband with an income, there would be no hesitation in pursuing my dream. But I've supported everyone by myself for many years and I feel I deserve that.....
Sometimes the best decision is no decision. Maybe you can lett things naturally develop and go with the flow.

Me Too !!! Freyja. In a heartbeat, I'd be in the studio makin pots and cauldrons and all kinds of stuff and painting. My husband does work but together we barely make enough to survive. I love teaching, but I'd rather be doin art. Or fishing :)

Even though my hubby works, we have bills enough to require two paychecks. It just doesn't cut it on his salary alone.

Hey girl, I know you're scared. Let your heart be your guide. But don't let fear guide you. You know how scared I was to leave the hellhole I had, but I'm so much happier now. And looking to simplify more. Maybe focus on the craft and what I can offer to others. If it is the will of the gods, the means will find you. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Okay, I've turned in the application for the new company, and now I just have to wait to see what kind of package they put on the negotiating table. I know that they don't have a matching 401K plan, so I'll be losing about 6% in matching funds. And the insurance is more expensive. If they won't come up to at least in the same ballpark as to figures, I may have to go elsewhere. I hate starting over again.
All this is happening now and the conversion dates from one company to the other aren't to be effective until July 1! I hate that this is being dragged out so very long. I'd like it to just be a great package and once I sign, it takes place immediately. Grr.

The apps are back from HR and we should be having our "interviews" (read: negotiations) starting next week. I have a list of the things I want to talk about and the one thing I will not be swayed about -- no on-call work. I am so done with that.
I'll let you know more after the interview.

I have my interview tomorrow, 3/18, at 10:00 a.m. :yikes:
I have been told by a co-worker who has already had their interview that I will be very happy with the package that is offered, so I am thinking good, soothing, positive thoughts tonight.
If anyone else has some spare energy to toss my way tomorrow at 10, I would most certainly appreciate it! :huddle:

DC,
Wonderful lady, I hope that package is a happy windfall for you and that you are pleased with it. Sending you lots of love light and warm wishes. Maybe the CEA will pay off for you! :hugz:

Okay, first off: Thank you to everyone for their positive energy for me! :heartthro It really paid off.
The package the company offered was absolutely marvelous. I had to ask the interviewer to repeat the salary to me, because I didn't believe it. I looked at him and said, OK. So, bottom line, I get to stay with my work buddies (we've all signed on), I get to continue doing my security work, I won't be doing on-call (unless the number in rotation falls below 5 and then I'll fill in temp), and I am getting a huge raise in salary. This has gone so much better than it could have done.
Thanks so much again, my MW family!!! :D :D :D
