can anyone offer some insight into auras?

a friend of mine seems to be experiencing his first sights of auras. he himself isn't pagan, though he definitely shares some common beliefs. what he's been seeing lately is what he described to me as "a greyish tint around people about a 1/4 inch big" he says it varies from person to person, some are more white, some are more black, some in between, etc.

he first asked his mother (a solo practitioner, not part of any group), who has had a good amount of experience with spirits, but told him she never had much luck with auras. so he came to me, asking if i could help him determine what he was seeing. i told him that my best guess would be the shades of grey would either be representations of how pure a persons spirit is, or possibly simply that persons mood at the moment.

i myself dont quite 'see' auras, i sense them around me (similar to how martial artists sense chi, if anyone is familiar with this method), so i told him id ask some people who might know better than myself about the matter.

any thoughts? anyone seen anything similar, or have a speculation to what he might be seeing? i've known everyone here to be pretty helpful, so thanks in advance to anyone who offers any ideas.

This is my expirence.
I can see them and they are all differant with differant people or animals or trees or whatever. From others I have known they also are differant to the ones that see them.
I may see green and someone else see the same aura as white. All differant people and all differant sights. To understand what it all means, you have to know yourself very well.
And when someone is PG the aura changes a lot. A persons aura also changes over time.

Sounds like he's seeing energy - I see that easily, colours are more difficult. I imagine he's seeing how energised people are feeling, how their immune system is etc.
