My friend's sister died of Aids Saturday in Ethiopia. Her husband will die soon too.
There was no way they could afford $1000.00 american dollars a month for medication. There is still fighting over patents on generics to where there is no alternative but american drugs.
Their two year old daughter will have to begin a new life without her parents. Thankfully she has tested negative for HIV but she cries.
She has a chance for a new life in Canada with her aunt and my friend, her uncle will become her guardian should she ever need or want to come to America.
Say a prayer, light a candle, hug the children in your life and send your love and hope to a part of the world that needs it and to a little 2 year old girl that begins a new life.
If you have time, send a letter or email to the drug companies and congressman/congresswoman. Profit and patents are fine but not at the expense of millions of people and whole generations. Generics will not hurt companies with profit margins of 30-40% that badly. They will find a way to make up the money.
