... I am currently fostering a puppy dog who is in very bad shape. She is from 'Up North'...and has been brought to the Pet Rescue Shelter in wpg because she most likely lived in a very unloving place.

When she came, the vets told us she had "dermamites", and that they were not contagious, she had medication, and they would go away soon. Well, by the time she started looking better, we had noticed the medication made her not eat well... so we took her off it and let her be. Well... it got infected again, and when we brought her back to the vets, they told us this time that it was "Dog acne that got infected."

Let me give you a description of how this puppy's skin looks... Underneath her chin, there is nothing but mucous and puss and swollen skin which honestly looks the same as a mushed and opened peanut-butter and jelly sandwich. She has infections near her eyes and all over her paws, where the skin is rubbed raw because she's itchy all the time.

The sores are always opening up and bleeding over and over because she tries to rub them against the floor and all. Its the saddest thing.. I wish I could help her more...

...The vets also told us... 3 different vets...
That since she's so young, (6 months old) she may not have a strong enough immune system to fight off the infection. ..And if that's the case, then they're going to put her down.:dis:

I am at school right now and I am very worried about her... I wish I could be at home with her all the time. I hate seeing this type of thing, shes such a damn sweetheart and she doesnt deserve to have to suffer like this. Please... PLEASE send us as much energy as you can... Im giving all the energy Ive got to her...for hours last night I just lyed there while she slept on my tummy and snored and I tried to give her energy that would soothe her (bright blue). If you have any suggestions of things I could try to help strengthen her... I know that since she's out of the kennel she's finally getting the sleep she needs... but if there's anything else that anyone could think of, it would be muchly appreciated.

Blessings....♪

Lots and love and energy for her!

Have you guys tried putting plain old-fashioned zinc cream on her? Or even giving her zinc as a suplememnt in her food? It helps immensly in healing skin conditions. I haven't heard anything about it being something a dog shouldn't have. Maybe check with the vet first just to make sure but I think it might help!

Hmmm... Im not really sure... I know she has this cream that I put on her and it has a really fancy scientific name to it, as well as a 'hibitane' wash that I sponge on her affected areas before the cream goes on.... But im not sure if its zinc. I'll ask though... And if not, a zinc supplement in her food I would think is a really good idea! but ill have to okay it with the vets. Thank you!

Edited: Thank you as well, 13thChylde.

Wow... how long has your pup had it? And how have you managed if there's been no solution?... I hope this isnt chronic for Dakota, but apparently it's not supposed to be something dog's can pass onto each other- only by hereditary genes. Dakota's mommy might have had it and passed it on. I really hope that's not the case because since she's an orphan, it'll be hard to find people who want to be constantly putting creams on her and giving her medicine. (It really is a high maintenance job.)

They're supposed to do some type of test on that when she goes back to the vets on Friday.. so I guess we'll see. I find the vets' opinions pretty unstable about this, so it's hard to know how things will turn out.

She wasnt as swollen on her paws this morning, and she ate just about all of her food, so thats a good thing. Everyone I've talked to has encouraged the zinc supplement idea, so today as soon as I get home, I'm going to call the vet's to make sure.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Okay... went to pick her up today.... And guess what. They changed their opinion AGAIN.

Now, it's worse than we thought, And they say she has "Demodectic MANGE"!!! :wah:
Apparently the proper meds for this has just gotten it's logo changed, so it's waiting at the US border for the government to approve it.. so we have to use this different stuff that's supposed to be used for parasites in goats and it's going to take much much longer to heal.. if it heals at all. So, there was no point in asking about the zinc... it's an actual parasite called "Demodex" that has to be killed... not just a bacteria.

Thank you so much for your energy...please keep sending. We really appreciate it <3
