Lately I have found that application of direct energy manipulation has the same effects as ritual work, latly I only do rituals when honoring Danu, but for simple things I feel that deities are very busy entities, and so I have been drawing on things like elemental nodes and places of power and directing the energy as I need it. I was woundering what the communities veiws are on this as I am always seeking knowledge, especially from people that have had more experience then me

I see nothing wrong with manipulating energies and making magic without invoking deities first.. as long as you have the ability and energy to do so yourself. I don't believe that you should go casting at your slightest whim, but I do think that it's perfectly normal to create magic without having a deity hold your hand. Personally, I do reiki-type energy direction and crystal work to propel change without asking for assistance. But really, it is a personal choice.

That actually sounds like a good idea. ^_^ But I personally invoke the Goddess...

I tend to like the direct approach. I am nto ritualistic. I draw from the elements. I believe in the fact that everything has a spirit but I do not terribly believe in gods and goddesses. I have never invoked one.

I have for many years simply used energy manipulation and visualization. To be honest i like the direct approch because i am not a ritualist person. Why should i mess with all the high magick stuff when i can will it and it's done?! Ok i admit that it isn't quite that easy but you get the general gist of things. I do think it is more a personal preferrence kind of thing. For some rituals and spells work better while others find the direct approch that much better. Neither is stronger in my opinion just different from each other.

I use the direct approach as well, although for certain things I am ritualistic. :)

I dont believe in deities per say, so I always use the direct approach. I dont run down on energy since its always flowing and what not plus its everywhere all the time.

I believe I'm always connected to Gaia, so I see no point in summoning or invoking Her when I do magick (which is anytime, anywhere, anyhow).

i don't know about being more experienced... hard to say about that, but i normally don't use tools or anything.. just me. that's all i need. no invocation.. no ritual.. nothing special for me. it's not about what you use to do it.. or whos name you say.... it's whether or not you know how to make whatever you need work for you. :)

before i do workings outside ritual. do a divination tarot runes bones whatever your form is to see if one its necessary two if its favorable. the divination may show you insights that you didnt see before on why you should or shouldnt. then gather your stuff and gather your energies and do your thing. when making incense candles oils and such . i dont cast circle. but i do light candles . i do gather the energies most of the time the node that is out back and the specific energy needed to program into the item or thing or person( animal are people too). as far as the dieties. they are very patient and understanding . especially danu. if she isnt busy mothering you she is kicking you in the pants for not doing what your suppose to. im sure she will let you know.

I have always felt that there is a time and place for everything, and sometimes Direct magick will work better then a ritual.
Then again, sometimes a ritual might proove more fruitful then direct magick.
Now... I am no stranger to using direct magick, sometimes a little direct magick is what is needed.

That's my 2 cents.
