Tana

Tana, our Lady and Goddess, would solve all mysteries, even the mystery of Death. And so She journeyed to the Underworld in Her boat, upon the Sacred River of Descent. Tana, having experienced the death of the God, Her love, at the Autumn Equinox, already knows the pain of grief and loss. This experience, this death causes Her to look inward and so She knows that She must understand this thing called death. Her journey begins with both grief and the desire for knowledge. Tana sets sail in Her boat, on the Sacred River of Descent, its currents carrying the Goddess to the Underworld. Once there, Tana is confronted by the Guardians of each gate and as She descends to the Underworld and passes through each of the seven gates, She must give something up.
At the first gate, Tana gave up Her scepter.
At the second gate, She gave up Her crown.
At the third gate, She gave up Her necklace.
At the fourth gate, She gave up Her ring.
At the fifth gate, She gave up Her girdle.
At the sixth gate, She gave up Her sandals.
At the seventh gate, She gave up Her gown.
At last, Tana stands naked before Dis, the God of the Underworld. The Dark Lord is awed by Her beauty and kneels at Tana's feet as She enters, laying down His crown and sword, surrendering to the beauty of Tana. The Dark Lord asks Tana to stay and recieve His touch upon Her heart. The Lord of the Underworld asks the Goddess for Her love. But Tana refused Him, angered by Her grief and asks Him in anger why He causes all the things that She loves to wither and die.
The Dark Lord replies:
"It is age and fate against which you speak. Thus I am helpless, for age causes all things to whither, but when all die at the end of their time, I give them rest, peace and strength."
Tana continues to refuse the Dark Lord and so He commands Her to kneel before the scourge of death, for She must surrender to death in order to obtain the knowledge and understanding She seeks. As Tana kneels in submission, the Dark Lord scourges Her with so tender a hand that She awakens and cries out, finally knowing the pain of death and the pain of love. Together they share their mysteries, Dis giving Tana the necklace that is the cycle of rebirth and Tana teaching Dis of the sacred cup of rebirth. They love eachother for a time, their union giving birth to the Young God on the Winter Solstice.

Interesting! What pantheon is she a part of? I think I've missed her somewhere along the way, somehow.

Hi all,
I just looked up Tana in the Witches' Goddess by the Farrars. It quotes Leland as saying Tana is "The old Etruscan name for Diana, which is still preserved in the Romagna Toscana".
Peace and love

wow! did a google search for Tana... and amazing this came up right away...
so i thought i would ressurect it to add Tana is also considered an incarnation of Aphrodite by some, as well as Diana.
I personally see Her as Her own self...
