My oldest brother is mentally ill, bipolar and paranoid schizophrenia. He has lived most of his life with my parents. Now, however, my parents are passed on. My brother quit taking his meds around the time my mom started to fail, and has been unmedicated for seven or eight months. He refuses to see his doctor, and is extremely delusional. We, the siblings, cannot have him commited, and the state won't commit him unless he is a danger to himself or others.
We are frustrated about how our hands are tied, and my brother is too ill to make medical decisions for himself. It was suggested that we call 911, which will involve the police. . . a really ugly situation, but it will end up with him being put into the psych ward.
One sibling is going to attempt, one more time, to get him to committ himself, this week. After that we will be at the 911 scenario, which no one wants to do.
Any energy, prayers or suggestions would be welcome.
