View Full Version : It is going to be a rough day- I start therapy today

I am having my first visit with a psychotherpist today. It is very much needed. As some of you know, my family is the midst of a pretty serious health crisis with my husband. And I am about ready to have a complete breakdown. I made the appt on Monday.
(on a funny OT note: I call for the appt and this is how it goes-
C: I'd like to make an appt to speak with you about some issues I am having.
Dr: well my schedule is quite full right now. I am not sure when I will be able to get you in. Tell me a bit about what is going on.
C: Blah blah blahs about the issue- on a supeficial level.
Dr: Well, I don't have my appt bookin front of me, I will get you in but I'll have to get back to you on that. Are you feeling blah blah blah?
C: Blah blahs a bit more of what is happening...
Dr. Oh my goodness! That must be soo difficult for you! Please hold on, while I go get my appt book....... How is Thursday at 12:00?
So did she decide my case was interesting enough for her to listen to? :crazylaug )
Back to my energy request....
First visits are alway rough. This dr wants me there an hour early to fill out background paperwork- an hour! Then an hour session. Why do I think I am going to feel more depressed than I already do? At any rate, I am sure it is going to be *very* draining. If you could send some strength or calm or whatever, I would truly appreciate it.
And I promise, when I can get back on my feet, I will be in here much more sending energy and Reiki to all of you.

Maybe the unburdening of your soul, so to speak, will do wonders for you. It's hard to be the rock and the strong one all of the time.
Know my thoughts are with you, hon. :huddle:

I don't think it was a matter of whether you were interesting or not, hun. She was probably just "feeling out" whether you two would be compatible or not, as that is a crucial issue for the success of the sessions.
I think it would be a great relief to have a nuetral 3rd party to talk to, and that this is a great decision.
You and yours are in my thoughts.

:woot:
Haha.... :p
It wasn't as bad as I expected. She is very nice and understanding- and thorough with the background paperwork! But Gods I am drained. And it didn't help that hubby's dr visit went pretty darn poorly today too.
Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement- it really helps so much!

:hugz: It may seem strange to a lot of people who haven't had this kind of experience, but even a preliminary diagnosis can be a wonderful thing--because now you know someone believes you, and isn't going to tell you it's all in your head! Even better, a diagnosis means help and treatment are possible.
I'm happy for you, Chryssi! :clapping:

:hugz: Chryssi!! You were better than I was today. At least you made your appointment. *sigh* I blew mine off this morning. Bad bad Grace.
It's all downhill from here hopefully, you have a diagnosis, you have someone in your corner. Building a support system is so important. I'm glad she got you in so quickly!!!

I love you guys! I truly don't know how I would get through all of this without you. Just knowing that there are other people, people who I admire and can relate to, who are going through this helps me tremendously. I realize there are going to be ups and downs ( Life is just one big rollercoaster ain't it?) But as long as I have you all to hold onto it, maybe it will be a bit less scary- and a bit more fun.

I hope speaking to someone about it all will lift a major weight off your shoulders- it does seem that voicing your worries and problems can help to look at them with an objective eye and find possible solutions- :hugz: HAPPY HEALING!!!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee. Hopefully this will help you. Do you know if medication is going to be tried, or is that further down the line? (Yeah, I'm nosy like that.) I hope this works out, it sounds like you found a neat person to work with, and that's pretty important. Healing stuff comin atcha.

Wacky, I have been on Zoloft 50mgs a day for a few months. It helped in the beginning, but as the situation has been going on longer and worsening, it seems to be doing nothing for me. I asked her about other meds. She doesn't prescribe herself but can make recommendations to my GP. She said that as we get a bit more info, she'll do that.
She also said that she is going to teach me medtation and other stress reduction techniqus. She also does biofeedback- I wonder if things don't improve that I can try that. That is always something that I thought sounded neat.

Chryssi Dont let these DR's take you on a wild goose chase, I was taking 100MG of Zoloft and it helped a lil bit, I am going to be going back on the Celexa because the Celexa was working better for me. There are a few different types of Medications you can take.. A therapist can not perscribe you medication and My advice is for you not to trust your mental health with a General Practicioner, A psychiatrist is a DR who is able to help you , he is a DR but specializes in treating Anxiety and Depression, as well as ADHD... alot of people fail to recognise that what you have is a medical issue and to simply tell you to "Relax" and Meditate is not helping and only shows thier ignorance to the issue..
Ive been on Celexa for 2 years and I had tried the zoloft because I wanted to see if it worked better, your Brain chemistry is different than mine, so therefore what works for one doesnt work for all, it all depends on the symptoms you are experienceing. This is why you should not let your GP perscibe you medication for your condition because a Psychiatrist will be able to perscribe you a medication based on your symptoms and his education.
Meditation is great, but the Key to Meditation is being able to relax and calm your body in the first place... Meditation is a great supplement to Medical Treatment.
Hope this Helps and good luck

Zoloft was wonderful for me, but it's not the best for everyone by far. Biofeedback has had some amazing results with others I've known, that might be a really good idea. Meditation rocks (for me anyway), so that could help as well. Good luck.

I hope to be starting therapy soon myself. I know the stress in my life has manifested in GI problems (poss IBS, etc.), and I know it would benefit me to talk to someone.
I am so happy for you this is turning out for you, making you a happier person.
Hang in there Hon, and keep going to those appointments!
Hugs! :hugz:
