View Full Version : Bug bite gone bad

I know it does not sound like much but on Sunday I got bit by some unknown bug on the back of my left thigh. Sunday it was not that bad, it looked like a bug bite. Monday morning I woke up and it was about the size of a dime and hurt, by lunch it was almost the size of a half dollar and hard and the white center turned black. I do not like going to the doctor but after much prodding from coworkers and friends I went to the doctor Monday afternoon and saw the nurse practitioner. She told me to put a wet hot rag on it and take advil. I was like what??? So after I pestered her she also prescribed anitbiotics. Today it is as big as, if not bigger than, a golf ball and it hurts really, really bad (it is inside my muscle). I made an apt to see the doctor again today at 3pm but I have little faith in a professional who everyone conciders it ok to practice their job. (IE my doctor practices medicine)
After that long story I guess I am just asking for some energy to be sent my way to help heal my leg.
Thank you in advance.

I could be wrong here, but that sounds to me like a spider bite...

Second opinion I think. Some insects lay eggs under the skin, you might want to check into that.

That's what I thought, a spider bite. I've never heard of prescribing an anitbiotic for a spider bite. Please call another doctor, tell him or her that you think you have a spider bite and describe it, and ask if they want to look at it themselves. Really, this can be very serious. Call someone. Go and see the nurse at the county health department. Okay?
Oh and I'm sending healing energy too.
Here's a link about spider bites: http://www.health.uab.edu/show.asp?durki=18798
There is a description of the wound caused by the bite of a brown recluse. If this sounds like your wound, go to an emergecency room and have it looked at.

I'm gonna have to agree with spider bite.... And it sounds almost like a brown recluse bite.. but... not *quite* ...

Thank you so much. I asked the Doc yesterday when I went back and he said a recluse spider venom eats the flesh so instead of swelling it will sink in so it was not a recluse.

Thank you all for your thoughts and energy. I feel less pain today. I did go back and see the actual MD yesterday and he gave me a very painful shot in the butt. *Owie* still hurt too... I also talked to some local friends who sugested this herbalist. He agreed it was more than likely a spider bite. He is having his pharmacy (he actually called it that but it is a gal who will gather the proper herbs) put togeter an herbal drawing salve and he said inside of two days it should be gone. Thank you all so so much.
Blessed Be.

Do you have the drawing herbs now? If not you could use the same thing my mother but in a bite I got on my arm has a child (it really took the sorness and 'heat' out of the bite) she made a 'poultice' of yellow soap and sugar to put on it.

That's exactly right... You got bit by a recluse... and the hot pack did nothing but make the "venom", for lack of brain power, (which eats away your skin) Ooze and spread it. Be careful with it, they leave nasty little scars! Honey you need to be careful, and i'd be for givin that doc. an eye punch :D Mucho energy sent... I hope everything goes well!!!!

Well I did not get a chance to come update on here over the weekend. Friday I woke up in serious pain and I went to work and it just got worse. So I called the doc and got a 3:45 apt. I felt like I was dizzy and had run a marathon but in actuality I had just driven to work and sat behind my desk. So I took the rest of the day off and went home and took a nap. I went in to my Dr apt at 3:45 and he looked at it and said yup just as I thought time to cut that thing out of you. I was not all that ok with him just cutting on me so we sat and talked about it for 10 mins or so but in the end I let him cut me. Well After that golfball thing was out of my leg man I was feelin so much better. I still have a pretty large hole in my leg but it feels so much better than it did. I want to thank each and everyone of you for the energy you sent my way I truely believe it gave me the strength to let him cut me (I have not had a steller time in surgery) and then over the weekend when my body was getting use to not having the infection in it and the healing actually started. Big hugs to you all.
Blessed Be!!!

I'm glad you did go to a doctor after all. So, tell me.... when are you planning on suing the other place for malpractice? You could have lost your leg because of her.
Lunacie

Sueing them might be a bit harsh since she didn't actually lose her leg. But I think I'd check into filing a report with the state medical association. This should definately be noted on the first doctor's record.

Misdiagnosing patients is also a bit harsh. They could have saved their patient a lot of pain and suffering before it got so huge.

Sorry I have not responded but I have been having a hard go of it. Umm as far as sueing goes I am not like that. She made a mistake as we all do. I will just not see her again. She is the Nurse Practitioner of the Dr I go to. I only see him now. The huge thing on the back of my leg is healed and gone. The messed up part is there is one on the front now and like 5 others just starting. I went to the Dr yesterday and the culture came back from when he cut me open the first time. Come to find out I never got bit by anything in the first place. This is pretty whacked. I should have written down the exact name as I now forget I will call on Monday and find out what exactly it is called. But basically I have a super bacteria in my system. It is immune to antibiotics, well most all of them anyway. They have me on two very potent ones now. One is use mainly to treat [sp?] tuburculosis. Now I do not have that but the germ thingy I have is not immune to it so with that and the other one they have me on the doc is confident I will be feeling much better in a couple days. Though today I feel horrible and am in some serious pain.
On a side note the man has got me, as I am typing this from work. I know, I know, why would I submit myself to comming to work when I am such a train wreck.
I am not sure to be truthful. There are things that need doing and I am on deadline is the excuse I give but I think the truth is I might be a workaholic.
I apreciate the energy I can feel it from you all. I hate to ask but I could use some over the next two to three days as I can feel a war being waged in my body.
I give my love freely to you and except what you can spare.
Blessed be.
Shanti

Healing energy to you.
That is awful. Super bactieria are todays new prob. I am so sorry you have to endure this. I hope any meds they try works well along with the energies sent.
I can understand your reluctants to sue. She was a nurse, not a doc. Docs do makes mistakes too because somethings are very hard to figure out especially when its not in the common norm and there is nothing common for an everyday doctor when it comes to a super bacteria. I wouldnt be surprised if your doc was surprised by the results. I bet he just figured it was a run of the mill infection that is very common. You just had to be one of the few! I hope that bacteria is defeated!!!
Please keep us posted on how your doing. ~hugs~

Thank you all. I am doing ok. Had a rough morning. Did not go to work as the side effects of the meds were rough today. Talked to the Dr office and taking some over the counter stuff to counteract the side effects. WooHoo just what I need more meds in my system. LOL. My leg is getting better. The swelling is down. I am not done, but I can see progress so I am pretty confident this will take care of the problem.
Thank you all again. All your energy is much appreciated.
Blessed Be!!!

Your thread made me think of something I saw on tv, but it may not be applicable to your situation...
The foot baths, and tools used at manicure salons have been known to transmit bacteria and tb because in some cases the things aren't sterilized properly. The welts on the people who were unfortunate enough to pick up the bacteria looked like what you were describing (just going on what I read here). Perhaps there's no connection...but just in case, a warning to all...don't use the foot baths unless you know they have been properly cleaned...and bring your own tools for the people to use!
Cadabuz, I'm gonna send you healing energy, and wishes for a speedy recovery! Hope you aren't in too much pain any longer.

Thank you Lala and everyone else for your warm posts. I think I got the bacteria at the beach when I fell skim boarding. No real way to know though. I did find out the name of what I got though. It is called Merca. I still feel really terribly. My leg decided to drain all on its own today here at work. I do not have all the stuff I needed to patch it up but I made due and should be able to make it through the day. I really wish I was at home in bed though. These meds (Clindamycin & Rifampin) are wreaking havoc with my bo0dy and mind. I am irritable, nauseous, backend issues, fatigued and my head feels like there is cotton in it keeping me from thinking straight. The good news is that though my leg still hurts pretty bad it is getting better. So I hopefully will only feel like this until next Tuesday when I finish my meds.
I want to thank you all for all your concern and energy.
Blessed Be, I am here another glorious day to share it with our earth mother and to be one of the people who keep her well by giving ourselves to her and to still have the chance to make a difference in the prevention of the destruction of her by those who feel the need to defile her even though she has given them life. I will give thanks to her every morn when I wake for the life she gives us all everyday. I truly believe that the pains and problems we each experience are but a slight fraction of what she endures each and everyday.
She is my pillar and I gain strength in the knowledge that she endures through such strife yet still takes the time to show us all the beauty that is in everything, it is up to us to notice it.
