Lets hear about some uses of sweetgrass! I have to tell you that I am really ignorant about the uses of herbs and that is bad...I know...but most of my studies have been geared toward Magick...without the use of external tools.
Anyway, enough of the explanations. I want to hear about sweetgrass!

Sweetgrass is most widely used for smudging rituals... the sweetgrass is burned and the smoke fanned onto the body, or Magickal tool, to remove negative energies. It is also used to clear negativity from the household.
This is the most common use for sweetgrass in ritual, used by Native Americans (among other cultures) and adopted into Wiccan rituals.
Hope this helps...

So it doesnt have any medicinal purposes at all? The reason I ask is that I see people buying it all the time at our local Pagan shop and I am always wondering what in the Earth are they buying that for?

I would say 90% of them are buying it for smudging rituals... but many make jewelry out of it as well, hemp like jewelry. This makes for great ritual jewelry especially for Shamans and Native American traditions.
You can buy premade sweetgrass jewelry at most Pagan shops, just ask for it.
I will look up some medicinal purposes and get back to you, if I can find some.

Okay, no medicinal purpose yet, but I did find references to oil, soap and body lotion.
The names Vanilla grass, Seneca grass and Holy grass are noted as well as a Native American word I do not know the definition of "Zebrovka."
It can appearantly be woven into baskets as well, but seems to be more symbolic than anything else. It looks great in your garden too...

Now how you could use Sweetgrass to make lotion I have no idea. Ack. I am so new at all of this herb stuff. Almost discouraging. Oh well. If I can teach I can learn. Let me know if you find out more.
Love and Light!

Without going into detail, you can extract the essential properties from any plant... just like making grape juice from grapes.
Once you have extracted the essence of a plant, it can be used in numerous ways, even to make lotion.
Hope this helps...
