Greeting..I'm new here and I recently read something saying that if you self harm then you can't be a Wiccan(I haven't decided that is definetly my path, but I do agree with the rule) sadly I suffer from self harm, so does this mean I can't b a Wiccan?

thanx

I say that the rule tells you to strive for no harm, that includes to not harm others and to not harm yourself. So if you want to be a wiccan I guess you should strive towards not harming yourself, it is very important, this rule is for you to live by, well a good rule for everyone to live by :)

Also being a wiccan is much more than just the rede, however the rede is an important part of wicca.

It's not a rule. It's a rede. It means advice. So, you can still be wiccan if you do not obey it, but you'd have to than deal with the consequences, especially if you believe in the law of 3. This says that everything you do comes back to you threefold. Of course, if you are harming yourself, you feel the consequences immediatly.

Hey, we're a very open and caring community here. So, I hope I'm not stepping out of line when I ask if you are getting professional help dealing with this. In this harsh world, we all need to love and cherish ourselves. Sometimes it's hard to see how wonderful we are. We often compare ourselves, unfairly, with society's ideal. This is an ideal very few of us can live up to.
We all have things about us that make us wonderful and worthy of love and respect. I hope that you can see that in yourself, and become your own hero, not tormentor.

Welcome, Moon Puppy. I think if you hang around you'll like it here. Check out just silly for some entertainment, and grab a lemonade and a spot on the porch.

Where, exactly, is "Sunny Scotland", little brother? Just curious.

Wicca is a path but there are many more. I, for one, am an eclective Witch with emphasis on Shaminism and Celt.

No one path is right and none are the same, find yours and follow.

Blessings,
RnR

Everyone has their own opinion on this. My belief is that no you can't be a Wiccan if you don't always follow that rule as best as possible. You can still be a Witch, a Shaman, a Druid, or any other type of Pagan though. In my experience a Wiccan considers the Rede to be a rule, other Pagans consider it advice. Again, I need to stress, this is MY opinion. You don't need to follow it!

Learn what you can, we will be happy to help you, then you will make your own decisions on this stuff. Don't let anyone try to make you feel wrong or stupid, have your own beliefs! :)

Welcome to Mystic Wicks Moon Puppy! Glad you decided to join us! :)

Now that aside...

I am Wiccan (not that that really means anything to anyone) and I see it as more of a guideline not a 'dyed in the wool' rule. Sort of like the lesser of two evils kinda thing. Don't get me wrong. I don't think you should be hurting yourself but we are human after all and we do make mistakes (some of us continually  ).

It sounds to me like you're just beginning your search for your spiritual path. With that in mind, I wouldn't worry too much about labels right now. Figuring out what you believe in is the most important part. And once you figure that out, it will be much easier to see where it all fits in.

Good luck on your journeys...
