I just completed a short-story that I've got ready in hand to send off.
I can't decide if I want to send it to
Fantasy and Science Fiction (http://www.sfsite.com/fsf/glines.htm) or
Asimov's Science Fiction (http://www.asimovs.com/info/guidelines.shtml)
It's a modern-set character piece with strong fantasy/mythology elements. No "real" sci-fi bent in particular.
I was wondering if anyone here had worked with either before and could recommend one over the other. Thanks.

ASF usually requires a strong science fiction bent. Both are hard to get into. I recommend you read a couple issues of both mags and then decide which one your story fits into best.
Good luck! (And follow submissions guidelines to the letter).

Thanks. I've read a good number of issues of both, and admire both greatly, although I read Asimov's a little less. They both seem slightly more sf-based than fantasy based, but I am unaware of any magazines with as quality a reputation that lean more towards fantasy. If you've got any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

There aren't as many out there as there once were...have you looked in the Writer's Market? Go to your library, if you haven't, and in the reference section get the current year of Writer's Market. They give the listings for thousands of publishers and magazines, and their requirements. An excellent resource.

There's also one just geared toward fiction:

I've looked at the basic Writer's Market; I did not know there was one specifically for fiction. I'll have to try to pick that up.
