Thurs, Thurisarz or in swedish Trollrunan.
It represents the sound th.
The tarot correspondance is the tower.
Thurs stands for: chaos, darkness, great changes, your courage. It is sometimes found to be a rather frightening rune, changes often seem to be that at first. It carries the same type of power or force as Uruz but this time it is more "free" and very uncontrolled. It also shows your dark sides, the parts of you that you don't always want to acknowledge.
Thurs speaks to your courage, it tells you to use your courage and strength to go through the changes that comes.
Reversed it is mostly seen as a very very negative rune. Because reversed it often stands for standing without power, and of losing control (or fear of losing control).
Wear this rune when you feel your life is boring. Thurs will get things moving and stir things up a bit. But be careful when wearing this rune, because it's powers comes from chaos and things can easily get out of control, and things can go wrong....
Oki, that was it about Thurs :)
Blessings

Thanks Emy! :)
btw, I like corresponding them to Tarot cards-- makes it much easier to remember. :)

Emy I agree! Aswell as this it stands for a gateway for me ~ to passion, conflict and chaos. It is trying to show you the doorway to recognise your true self, your hidden self, and is a very pyshic stone for me.
If you cant see this hidden self it again tells us to look at ourselves deeper, and with a magnifying lense so that we cant hide anything in the darkness. Maybe a decision has to be made to go further and see the light. Thur is useful for meditation as it helps us see deep inside.
This is also an 'argument' rune for me.. so either what out for one or recover from one.
Thur is Thors rune and is a very masculine rune with allot of powerful dominant energy (chaos) which should be understood and deffinatley not played with.
& in magic this would be good to use in a warding spell Ive been told as it repels and strikes back.

Yes, Thurisaz is Thor's Rune; the embodiment of Him. The word thurs means 'giant'. This can refer to Thor (the 'Giant God'), or to the Giants, the antagonists of the old Norse/Germanic Gods. Thurisaz can be a Rune of chaos & conflict, but it also represents Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, the Gods' mightiest weapon againts the Giants (turn it point up, & look at it). This is a Rune of protection. In the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc, it's name is Thorn. Here, it symbolizes the thorn on the rose, again a protective agent. Thor is the Warder (Protector) of Earth. In a reading, look for the aspect of protection or conflict in the Runes around it. THurisaz's color correspondence is bright red.
In magic, Thurisaz is an 'energy Rune', giving energy to a working. Reversed, it is used as a binding agent (see the thread Practical Rune Magic III in the Magick Forum).

I recently got this rune given to me by a special friend :) and want to ask more about it.
Rick, I have been told to ask about it not being used on its own?
Any help would be much appreciated :sunny:

Not use it on it's own? Hmm... I'm stumped... I can conceive of no reason not to use Thurisaz by itself... I do it quite regularly... no Rune (not even Nauthiz) is inherently negative... using Thurisaz in mutiples, however, can have negative results... I'd advise against this, unless you're sure of what you're doing...

I'm unclear then, maybe it wasn't you who told me that. I recall being told that Thurisaz' power is too unpredictable for this rune to be used alone?

Thurisaz: Correspondence with the Pagan Wheel of the Year:
Thursaz is associated with the sabbat Lammas, or in the Celtic language, Lughnassad along with Ansuz and Uruz. Lugh is a Celtic solar god similar to Odin. Ansuz represents Odin in his aspect of inspiration seen as a solar attribute and Uruz the raw, primitive, fiery urge. Thurisaz is associated with thunderstorms and the god Thor, and the protective strength between Odin and the giants. This series of runes could be interpreted in a psychological manner, with Uruz being the primal fire, Ansuz the higher function of the intellect and Thurisaz mediating conflict and interaction between the two.
