Just another question.:)
I have read things where it says you should flesh out your characters right from the start, have a plot right from the start. But i have just started a story just from one sentence, and it seems to be going okay..even though i don't know where it's leading me and although i have a vague idea of it's content,i have nothing concrete.
Has anybody worked this way before,or do you think you should have the basics even before you start?
Thank you.

I have, I usually have a general idea of one thing in particualr, usually my main character, but where they go always changes....:D It can be easier if you know what you want to happen....but there is nothing wrong with working the way you are.:)

MM Earthy~
My first novel developed from a sudden burst of inspiration I had while waiting for my mother and sister in the car. Words started flowing through my mind and literally spelling themselves against the blackboard of my mind. I got home and turned on the computer, then typed out the words and 6 months later I had a book in front of me.

My characters developed over time, and I did spend some time thinking up the ending, as well as different characters that were introduced over time and yet who still had a great influence on the "unfolding" plot, however the main characters were there from the beginning, or at least the establishing chapters.

Good luck to you!

I usually try to get a basic understanding of my main character(s). Y'know, develop a bit of a basic profile, and I try to think of what conditions may have led them to the situation I'm going to write about.

I had a basic idea about my two main characters, but by the end of the novel I got to know them a lot more. So, I don't think you can ever have a detailed idea of who your character is until you start writing about them!

My plot was basically creating scenes as I go. (Like everday I might come up with three scenes I want to write out.)

A basic idea is good enough for me when starting, but that doesn't mean that you can't be successful if you have no idea! Just keep writing and throw in interesting things when it gets boring.

Dear Earthy

If it is flowing for you, then let it flow. If it feels like not the right direction or stops flowing, you can try to get a sense of direction to get writing again.

One writer said, "Read Read Read, Write Write Write." If you run out of ideas to write, then read some material like yo wish to write.

I xeroxed and scanned some articles and started writing.

ooone author said he walks inthe woods, yells at the trees, acting out his characters, then when he reteurns to the keyboard, the story writes itself.

Pesnaly, mostly I just procrastinate, and dream. But I have a draft of 3 pages for a newspapere article I wrote today.

I intend to send out E-mails to form a basis for flusing out the details.
