pretty simple really, does anyone here define themselves as an occultist, and if so, what is your understanding of the meaning of "occult"/"occultism", what do your practices entail etc. id love to pick your brains :)

Define occult...

To me, if it simply means "hidden", then it could define a variety of practices (or practises...I can never remember). Mostly I see it in a ceremonial magic sense. If that's what you mean, then I'd be happy to pick your brains too.

I'm not an 'occultist', but I do want to start getting into it when I find myself a proper teacher. The occult to me is, like Seren said, hidden. It involves several core works, like the theory of alchemy, divinition, and other non deity defined practices. It uses both ceremonial magick as well as some of the older forms. As well as chaos, blood, and necromancy. It is pretty large though, and there are several paths to learn about, as well as many connected practices.

The dictonaty definition: Occultist:

The study of the supernatural.
A belief in occult powers and the possibility of bringing them under human control.
So I guess that can cover a lot of people!!!!!! :)
I for one agree with both of these definitions. I believe in the supernatural and its powers and have worked with it.
