I saw the Gaelic thread and thought I should start a Cymraeg one :)
BBC already offers a great Welsh language learning system: maybe we could have one with "mystical" related phrases etc... perhaps the names of dieties etc. or maybe like how to construct Cymreag incantations.. :) I dunno.
Cymraeg is a really beautiful language and I know there's a few people here that would love to learn it.

lol I find it funny that you're in North Wales lol and you're seeking to learn the holy language from the internet :) lol if I was in North Wales I'd noone of English -- settle meself down faarr farr away from anyone that speaks English... maybe like somewhere on Anglesey.. I dunno - wherever I can find a purist rebellious town -- prolly one that only votes for Cymru Plaid or Labour (but always in the best intrests of a Welsh republic. :)
Also I think there might be 2 people here that are "qualified" to teach such a course... Diethryn and ap Dafydd (Ffred)... but I dunno if they are interested.
Thank ye all for your support.
Love come...

I _wouldn't_ be interested in yet another basic conversational course, I'm not in need of one. But I'd certainly be interested in a "Cymraeg defod/Ritual Welsh" class if anyone was up for teaching it, sadly I don't really have the time to do one myself (and indeed would hardly describe myself as having the level of expertise to do it...)
Kind of stuff that I'd like to see would be
- invocation
- ritual construction
- spell construction
- and possibly (something i've always wondered about) spell construction through strict metre
The kind of things that I know a little about but would very much love to know more

THAT'S exactly what I was talking about :) I don't know anything at all when it comes to Rituals in the language... I tried constructing my own phrases but I don't think they gramatically correct.

(I have a friend in Wrexham!!! he sells suits!! maybe you know him)
_tsk_ I don't think I'd be the right one to teach this.. if I did teach it, it would be a learning experience for me -- I think Ffred (ap Dafydd) is the right man for the job, if not Diethryn...

I would LOVE to! I could talk much more coherently with my grandfather! lol
Although the pronunciation could be tricky, 'cause it can be hard to write down how you pronounce it accurately.
I hope it happens though!!!!!!!

Pronunciation in Welsh is really easy, much easier than English because the letters are always pronounced the same way and the stress in the words always falls the same way.
Probably the biggest problem for anyone who wanted to run this would be that people are at very different levels of competence in the language and that could be hard to pull together.

I'm Welsh on my mom's side, and I think it would be wonderful to learn.

Just keeping people up to date... I would try to coordinate this class, but my Cymraeg pronounciation is something that those pesky native speakers like to make fun of. So: I can get the grammar and the spelling right, just I wouldn't be 100% on telling you how to say it lol... I suppose Ffred (ap Dafydd) could correct me..

Given my new reasoning... I'll try and talk to people and try and get something up after the New Cycle (Dec. 22)... :dontknow:

I'd love it. I don't speak much...one semester's worth of an intro class in Abertawe.. and what I could has lapsed over lack of use. I'd love to try to pick some back up and would really like to have ritual related words, especially as a few of my trads elders brought Welsh elements into the main line.

Oooohhh, if this class starts up, give me a ring. I really want to join in. :D
If you guys are worried about finding teachers, if someone could teach me, I'd be willing to output that into a fairly easy-to-understand class. o.o
Anyhow, this sounds great. :D

Actually, I just found an excellent place to get information on this Welsh language. I could probably very easily set it up into a more understandable class structure, if anyone's interested. However, I've never spoken the language before, so I'd only be learning a few steps ahead of the students. However, if you're still interested and willing to let me do this, I could certainly do my best. ^_^

Shana-chan i think that keeping information and possible knowledge from others is not good and it is not what a teacher would do...
I made the thread about the Gaelic and I would certainly be veeeery interested in this class!!Welsh are a very enchanting language.Rhys maybe you could try and teach a class...and refer us to BBC for pronunciation?

I've thought about it... but I am not strong enough in the language to have enough confidance to teach it. Maybe in a year's time, or so. I am familar with basic imperative forms of verbs which would be needed in a Cymraeg Defod (Welsh-language Ritual) Class.
... I also don't really have the time, at the moment.
Cheers :: Peace and Love.

Wow, I can't make a joke? -.-; Besides, I wouldn't give away information if I knew someone else would take it and do what I wanted to do with it. :3

The BBC have an excellent website and free newsletter about learning Welsh - complete with audio clips!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/catchphrase/ is the main homepage, and http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/learnwelsh/ is the starting point for learners. It has downloadable lessons, streaming audio, a newsletter, a message board - all free, paid for by the Welsh Language Board (part of the UK government) who are committed to promoting the Welsh language :)
