Okay, I just spent the better part of 5 hours cleaning my bedroom, only to find, that I really didn't accomplish alot. I still have one whole dresser to go thru, and my whole room needs to be rearranged ... possibly. I think I really need to invest in a bookshelf ... if only I had the room. Currently books get stored in dresser drawers, and boxes.
Hey... does anybody have any good ideas of creating an inexpensive bookshelve?

Bendithion,
RubyRose They are really not that hard or expensive to build... you have a boyfriend, don't you? Why not put him to work?

He's right, you just have to make sure that it's heavy/strong enough to support the books. Ie. don't put big heavy books on top of a lightweight bookcase and make sure that your shelves are not too long that they will bow.
Cinder blocks and boards are a super-duper cheap way to make a strong, knock down book case. Knock down cases are good if you will want to move it around a lot.

I'm in need of more shelving myself. I'm either going to make it out of wood, or go with cinder blocks and planks of wood. Not sure yet. Keep an eye out at garage sales and thrift stores, you never know when you'll find a deal!

I used the black stakable crates. Soem of mine are overloaded so they look bowed but other than that they look good. I went with that option because I know I am moving in less than a year and I can bag those up and go. They are light weight, when not filled, so I am not making the loads too heavy.
I have also seen drwaers used quite nicely for books. You can lay them neatly in the drawers and keep them in a dresser or you can look for a deal on a dresser with wide drwaers. You can hand the drawers like shelves and use them like that.
Good luck! It is always a challenge to figure out how to organize all of those wonderful books.

Thanks. I have to start budgeting a little. I spent almost $100 today, I think. But then, $35 went on a much needed tarot reading, so its okay. Just less of my tax check that I'm able to put away in my savings account.

If you are looking for cheap blocking try a contruction dump. They may have old bricks and planks that can be melded into a book case with character.
