What is your preferred style? I like a clean looking, clutter free, Victorian/art nouveau look. The cabbage rose/calla lily upholstery, in burgundy and hunter and rusts, cut crystal dishes, Tiffany style lamps, etc.

What do you like, or would you like to have, in your home?

My style is definitely eclectic. Right now our living room is done in an oriental/tiki look with palms and bamboo styled furnishings. Our walls are a deep red. I would like to redo some of the furnishings and decorations for a more Old World look. We want to redo our kitchen in the Tuscan style.

Here is a picture of part of my living room:

I sort of like the shabby chic look...but at our house we seem to have concentrated mostly on the shabby:) . I love to find stuff at yard sales and either paint it or refinish. I am thinking of decorating with an English garden theme. I have a scrapbook of things I like and Paint chips. Our house is a 7 year old long rambler..but I think I could do some things to make it really cute.I wish I still had my flow blue and blue willow china. I use quilts for table tops and to disguise staoins and tears on an old chair..I'm telling my secrets now.

Laid back, simple, and very clutter free. I like dark colors, and don't like very many patterns.

I live in a log home with lots of knotty pine and and my furnature is "This End Up" with green cushions and I have green blinds up too. Since it's fall I have fall foliage garlands over my windows and a wreath of fall colors over my hearth.

colourful ;)

blame it on all that pisces running through me... i flip flop from one 'extreme' to the other... i have a deep love for antiques and a toned-down victorian look, but i also love more modern stuff too!

when i could finally afford my own living room furniture i bought these great sofas (http://www.coulters.com/cameleon.html) (gawds, they cost me an arm and a leg but i just had to have them) and a modern glass top coffe table. one sofa is purple and the other is a weird purple/green print.

while i was married John and we bought new living room furniture and went with very UNcontemporary stuff - it's all big and overstuffed and deep orange in colour... here's (http://www.ofoto.com/PhotoView.jsp?UV=903644812045_76769344406&collid=19359738306&photoid=22331838306) a photo that kind of shows the living room... see the 'modern' stuff left i've been too lazy to move out? lol.

he lives with his mom and stores that furniture here... i change the living room every now and then... totally flipping from the dark and cozy semi-victorian stuff back to my own contemporary furniture. they both have their place :)

my room is pretty traditional with an antique wooden bed and dresser. the kitchen is pretty contemporary (Ikea rocks)... the kids rooms are a big mix... whatever they liked and i could afford... lol

Oooh, Yasmine. I am a biiiig fan of William Morris and Charles Rennie MacIntosh. Sounds like you'd appreciate that sort of thing, too.

Although, my house is more "Addams Family" than anything else....

i like contemporary, modern stuff. solid shapes and colors. I can deal with pretty much anything, i have an eclectic taste. I don't like everything to be perfectly matched, it doesn't look "lived in" enough for me. There was a word for my taste, i read it in a book once... maybe i'll look it up...

Victorian, but I prefer the simpler Eastlake style in furniture rather than the High Victorian with all the carving & curlicues (I hate to dust). In color, I'm moving from earth-tones & slate blue to rich garnets & gold. I'm getting into a serious 'tassels, fringe, & swag' period.

This pretty much describes me as well...throw in a mediterranean villa look, tapestries with a few medieval touches...and thats my house

Isn't it though? My tastes run to the traditional, with a bit of French Country thrown in. I love antiques, but not the ornate, gilty kind (eek!). But I also really like the British Colonial look as well--cane, rattan (as accents), carved wood, exotic baskets, trunks and vases. Yep, that's my house.

I love a... country cottage type of feel. Lot's of warm, springy colours, and bears and ducks and hand-painted watering cans with plants in them. And hardwood floors, and (light coloured) wooden tables and chairs with cheerful, cute fabrics for cushions... Lot's of homemade stuff, and the perfect scene for herbs growing everywhere, and the smell of fresh baked bread and cookies every afternoon. ;)

Alas, that's my dream. I still live with my parents, who, I swear, don't *HAVE* an original taste. Everthings... bleh.

I love bright, and and fresh, and cheery. Think the colour of sunlight, a blue sumemr sky, and white, fluffy clouds. Those colours worked into a home.

When I enter my home, I want the word "dominion" to pop into my head. :evilway:

For my living room, I would like my walls to be a simple, dark gray, almost black. I want a black, purple, blue, some silver, and dark reds.
This will be the sofa that everyone chills on. (http://www.designtoscano.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=4895&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=58&iSubCat=60&iProductID=4895)
This will be the other couch. (http://www.designtoscano.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=5544&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=58&iSubCat=60&iProductID=5544)
This will be my coffee table. (http://www.designtoscano.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=5570&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=58&iSubCat=61&iProductID=5570)
And this would make a GREAT altar. (http://www.designtoscano.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=5597&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=58&iSubCat=61&iProductID=5597)

Frankly, I only care for the appearance of the living room. I also don't want to totally spam this board with links. :D

I love decorating! I like things to be clean and neat, and I like the idea of having a different colour scheme for each room. Like dark maroons and reds for the living room, green for the bathroom, dark blues and purples for the bedroom. Not necessarily those colours, but I'm just giving an idea. :D

my tastes run pretty modern. all clean lines and birch wood. (think swedish/ikea). anything chrome, especially in the kitchen.
i also love anything fifties or mod for accesories (my seventies astrological poster and vintage postcards).
my living room has huge overstuffed red couches with chrome legs. the coffee table is shaped like a giant guitar pick. i have leopard print cushions. that kind of thing.

I also like the eclectic, imported-stuff kind of look, but am currently too underpaid to have that stuff exclusively...

There's a FABULOUS canopy bed at World Market with a wonderful red canopy and a red silk quilt that I really really really want but can't really ever see affording...

But it's what I'd have in my bedroom if I could!

Hugs,
Katrina

These days, due to being on disability, I am decorating in the Early Poverty Period of style. My tastes are eclectic, however, I like antiques.

For me, I have a very eclectic, expensive taste. I love any thing Pier 1 ish and I love silver and stuff. I really wish I had a bigger room so that I could paint it a deep red with sheer gold-ish curtains. but for now, since I'm in tight quarters and in my "rain drop" room, I'm gonna go for sheer silver-gray curtains....I'll get some links when I can. For my Yule Present I get $150 to go twords fabric for drapes, paint for the back of my shelves, a small used desk, and a bed in a bag set, unless I get a futon (we have 2 futons in the living room instead of couches but they want real sofas so I get one for my room (yay!).

Whoopsy a little carried away, dont you think?

Asian

if I had my dream home...
the house would look like a south Asian temple,
each room would represent a different Asian country/culture

-or-
i'd go southwest like with an adobe type home and all native decor
again..each room would be a different band/group

right now I live in a house of horrors :thumbsdow

An eclectic mix.
My furniture, especially my living room is a mixture of new, thrift store, and old.

I USED to be into the ultra modern styles - all stainless steel, cold, no wood in sight.

Now, I love light birch and maple, and all light woods in general. I tend to go for the contemporary, comfortable, somewhat ecclectic furniture, and am really getting into 'beachy' furniture. The Atlantic Collection from the link that zehava provided is completely me.

I love earth tones and pastels - lots of creams and yellows, cucumber greens and olives. I like a home to look warm and inviting, and I don't like matching furniture sets - a.k.a "Get our sofa, love seat, and chair for this low low price of....."

Obviously things should be color-coordinated, but there needs to be some creativity and effort on my part to create a style that fits the room.

My house is done in country/Victorian...I love hunter green and burgundy, and red woods....my dad before he passed away, made me a HUGE hutch in a reddish mahogany color, so I try to match it with other stuff. My curio is filled with Thomas Kinkade artwork, and lots of Home Interior....am I "in the past"? LOL....now I feel dumb actually posting this..lol...oh, and I love antiques :)

I don't like modern furniture really, and i don't like anything that matches. I hate particle board, i rarely like the combination of metal and glass, too cold for my style, i like my things to tell a story, have character, be warm, make someone want to touch and feel. Plants, fabrics, different woods.

What style of furniture/decor? It changes. Lately, at 44, and after having a very full house for so many years, I'd like to loose almost all furniture, belongings, and books (nearly everything in the house) to the point that "uncluttered" wouldn't describe it.

Enter sparse Moroccan style rooms (curtains, pillows, a small table is about it) and E-Books. Gone would be the bookshelves full of stuff, the entertainment center and the big TV. I would allow the computers, sewing machine, various tools, and art stuff ... can't part with those.

Is this going to happen? No. Not unless everyone gets a personality transplant and develops new tastes and habits, lol.

with some fun thrown in like what you find at places like Pier 1 or Ikea.

My living room looks like a vintage garden guest cottage, dining room a vintage French bistro, and boudoir has a piece of art I purchased at the Louvre, and lots of lace, burgandy velvets, pearls, roses, vintage heirlooms, books and loads of candles. Well, I have loads of candles everywhere!

I also collect mermaids, have been since I was a teen. Mostly vintage, always tasteful. Ebay is a wonderful thing :hahugh:

black, black and more black, with a somewhat medievil touch. My couch and chair are black the tables are black iron and glass, on the walls I have black iron scones with black candles, and dragons and gargoles on the walls and on the shelves of my hutch and tables.

I'm a big fan of Asian style..the shoji screens, bamboo, silks, etc. My bedroom is done all in an Asian theme, with fabrics I brought back from Malaysia and Thailand. I appreciate all kinds of styles though. I love the gothic style. I saw somebody mention an English Garden theme earlier, and that look is so cool.

The only look I really detest is the ultra modern, minimalist, everything bare style. I absolutely hate that Rustic country AMERICANA style with all the stripes and stars and little signs and stuff. hate it.

No offense to anyon who likes those styles I don't. to each his own.

I like an eclectic mix. Shall we call it Shabby Hippie-Chic? I like a nicely brewed blend of Shabby Chic, Bohemian, and Rustic. Fun, Funky and Quirky.
