:veryweird I should be in bed, as I am getting up early and going camping tomorrow. But NOOO. What am I doing? I am looking at your wonderful link. I am such a ditz. :jumprope:
I love all the altars in the link. I actually have a main altar and I am in the process of finishing the last of four small shelves so that I may have an altar for each of the quarters. I have done mosaic in each of the appropriate colors for my tradition, and have things for each quarter I have collected over the years. It is a ploy to make my main altar less crowded, so far it is working. I just have to avoid getting new stuff.

I love looking through those photos. I've only recently had a shrine/altar of my own, and it's fun to see how other people set theirs.

Any suggestions for someone to make an altar while living in the house of a parent?

do your parents know of your path? If not, I would suggest maybe a closet, (be careful of burning candles in there..lol) or maybe even a little travel altar in a box? That way, you could store it under your bed or something. I decorate my altars so that they just look decorative....our landlord and some people around here are hardcore Christian and would freak if they knew anything of my path, so I can understand that :)

I think people place too much of an emphasis on items in a circle. An actual table for an altar isn't necessary, believe it or not! What is more sacred than the ground? Invest money in a small, cheap rug. Something small enough to fit in your room, but large enough that you can place your tools on it as well as sit when you wish to meditate. If you feel you MUST have some kind of table to work on, you might as well use something that is already present in your room. At this point, buying a nice table to use as an altar should be out of the question. If all you use is your sacred rug, a few packets of salt, a bottle of water, a lighter and a stick of incense, and you sat and meditated (who says you have to say everything out loud?) who can complain? You can wrap most of your tools up in the rug and put it away for easy storage. The final important part about having sacred space is that your circle doesn't necessarily have to be a circle. Bless your entire room when you set up your circle. That way you can answer the phone or the door if you absolutely need to.

i am with windigo on this one.
if you feel you need a special place, get a log of wood (like a board). i would wrapp it in aluminum foil, which makes it fire proff. there you go, your altar is there. you can also carve the wood with your symbols etc. that way you can also take YOUR altar with you for outdoor practice

wow, yours is beautiful! I'm jealous! I'll post more pics when I get mine ready for Beltane. My problem is having sacred space of my own with the clutter in my home due to no storage space...

Some Magickal ones, & my most recent - it was up from my B-Day ("V-Day!! :D ) until recently (it was a Love-Altar, of course!), now I have to figure out something for spring, like for upcoming Beltaine!:
