View Full Version : Energy Work

Here's a description of a short ritual we did Tuesday night. It's gong to be a bugger to explain, but I'm going to take a stab at it anyway. Most of it was totally spontaneous ~ we rehearsed beforehand, but energy has it's way. :D

A friend of mine (she's the Isian I mumble about occasionally) is in the hospital today having a hysterectomy; she's spent the last month doing all sorts of energy work in preparation ~ getting her life and house, spirits and body in order. She decided to make the effort to climb the stairs in order to share with those of us pariticipating in the Pagan Community Activities Center (PCAC) what she'd been doing. She's been in a lot of pain, so I admire her for the effort of the stairs alone! (just so you know, the PCAC is located in the upstairs of a turn-of-the-century home on the grounds of the local UU church; in fact, the church met there until they built their "new" building ~ if you've ever been in an old house, you know how the stairs are.)

We put on some good drumming music (it was easier to work with a cd than a live drummer) ~ we used "Drum Medicine". We wore our biggest, loosest, comfyest robes with the largest hoods so that we could have the freedom of movement and be able to cover our faces with the hoods. We took our brooms with us, along with our Goddess dolls; the dolls are a whole nuther post! Am trying to think. ... heh ... She set up the altar ~ it was beautiful ~ and we had candles blazing all over the room; it was the only light we used. She burned frankincense.

Then we started by pulling our hoods over our heads and faces. We grounded and centered, then started pushing negativity away from our body's, our minds, and our spirits. We did this in beat with the music ~ and soon, when you do this, you find yourself doing everything to that rhythm; it becomes a dance. We gathered the negativity in our arms and tossed it away, or pushed it with our hands and tossed it away.

The energy shifted, we removed the hoods, and we took up our brooms and began to "sweep". You just find the energy, feel the rhythm of the music and go with it. Then, when the energy shifts again, you sweep a path ~ meaning, you walk several paces forward sweeping a path before you, then do the same thing backward; you put the broom down, stand up tall with your head held high and walk the path, seeing yourself whole, and healthy in body, mind and spirit.

Then, we replaced the hoods, and we began pulling in healing light. We stood like a pair of chalices and felt ourselves fill with healing energy, then pulled that energy down and into ourselves. We took our hands and covered our eyes and gently touched our faces ~ clearing our mind and spirit. Then, we pulled in more energy and let it flow over us, using our hands as guides if we felt it needed to go anywhere in particular (her's, of course, went to her womb).

Then, we removed the hoods again. We became filled with so much pure healing light that we became lightweight and free ~ and began to dance ~ no set pattern, just danced with our dolls! (over the last year, she's taught me tribal dance; that's what we used ~ jinglejingle!)

When the energy wanes, you're finished! :D

But after doing this, I can understand why she's transformed so beautifully over the last month! I can't wait for her surgery to be over and her to be back home again. ;)

Beautiful ritual, Mairwen! It sounds like it would be extremely powerful! I've tried dancing with my rituals, but with little success. I'm probably just not spontaneous enough. Maybe if I had those little shadow footprints that I could glue to the floor I'd be alright. ;)

LOL! :D My friend's show me how to dance-in the elements instead of standing there calling them. I've been working on doing that in my personal rituals, so that I don't get "stuck in a rut". It's been an interesting trip.

Find a place that instructs on tribal belly dance ~ and I'm talking about Goddess dance, not the sexy-come-to-me ripping-off-veils kind of dancing! Or better yet, find someone who can instruct you one-on-one like my friend and I have done.

There are some good instructional videos, too. My favorites are by Fat Chance BellyDance ~ and they have a website. ;)

Now. What about those Goddess dolls? Do we get any info for those?

Like I said, they're a whole nuther post, but if you want that I should discuss them, we can start a thread. :-)
