Have ritual planned with my group. We will call in the Beloved Dead and Mighty Dead, have a Dumb Supper with them and then feast ourselves. Maybe even circle the Sacred Fire. I'll teach my students ember scrying afterwards, since this is the best night for it.

However--won't be celebrating it on Oct 31--we will be doing our celebration on Nov 6, which is the actual date of Samhain this year.

As far as i understand,it's where you set places for those who have passed and you eat the meal in silence.

My plans so far involve cooking dinner and a nice bottle of wine. Or a nice bottle of chianti *fu-fu-fu-fu*. Usually I have a bit of a party, but most of my friends will be in Australia by then, so there's no point this year.

I'm hoping to do my first ritual, involving a dumb supper. :)

A ritual of my own writing... Perhaps a feast of the Dead and some divinitation. November 6th though, not the 31st... I'm going partying on that day ;)

I'm gonna be at a party/ritual, just an informal dress-up thing I think

A Dumb Supper may be done several ways. A plate or plates are set out for the deceased with their favorite foods. The rest eat--but in silence.

You may also leave the food out all night--then dispose of the following day.

Food could be left at the front or back door instead.

Could also leave food out on the Altar you have set up for Ancestors--disposed of the next day.

As you can see--there are many possiblities.

Hope this helps in some way.

We're going to be dressing up and going to the waterfront down town. Then home for a small ritual and supper.

I havn't heard of ember scrying... more details? :)

And I was wondering where the term 'dumb supper' came from?

I hopefully will be joining in a ritual with a group i sometimes join. If i'm not doing a ritual w/ the local group, i will do something on my own...not sure what yet.

I'll just do a simple meditation and prayer. I'll also do a small dedication dinner for my grandpa who passed on this year (miss you, grandpa), as well as blessings for all those who have gone to higher places. Then, I'm gonna dress up my little boy and take him out to get some candy loots :tongueout

I'll be on the haunted hayride at Disney waiting for the headless horseman to come out and "get me"... followed by a trip to universal to be scared out of my witts.

My coven's celebrating Samhain on Nov. 6, which is our Shadowfest.

Gonna dress up as "The white devil" and go trick or treating with some friends (Who says college age is too old lol)..

Then me and my family are gonna have a big bonfire later that night.

Around midnight I should be passed out on a mound of candy wrappers with a Tootsie-Roll hanging out the side of my mouth.

We are going to have one ritual the 31st, that one at home. First the kiddies go trick or treaitng while I stay home and hand out candy (also finish baking and making mulled cider). Once the kids are home we will have a our feast (we set our plate for the Dead on the ancestor altar) and ritual. Then we go through the candy. Once the littlest ones are in bed I get to pop in some scary movies and get scared out of my wits. At some point we are planning on scrying (haven't gotten it all figured out yet). At a later date we will celebrate with our group.

I believe the 'dumb' part stems from the fact that at a feast of the dead (as it's otherwise known) no one speaks as the meal is eaten.

I am all alone community-wise, so, since my only community is online, I am going to be giving readings - my favorite activity - on Samhain with a particular theme. I can do them between the 31st & the 6th. As for "Halloween", I'm probably going to dress in my "witchy" dress (which is unfortunately the white version & not the black - although around here, who knows but that that's a *good* thing?!). I will be handing goodies to the kids in my building, I assume (I only just moved in in January). We'll see! :D

1: clean the house
2: smudge the house
3: chop wood for a hot, fast fire
4: cook and bake!
5: at sundown, set a table of food on the front step and dedicate it to the ancestors
6: set out a bowl of candy for any trick or treaters
7: spend some time in meditation, and do a few tarot readings
8: set lights along the paths to my house (this is a REALLY dark neighborhood)
9: wait for people to show up. :)

the ritual is still forming itself, but should include a simple feast (may you never hunger, may you never thirst), sending messages to the beloved dead, some music, and maybe a little election-year pro-democracy magic. all my buddies are non-pagans, so it'll be pretty low key.
