I did this ritual tonight to honor the new moon and the approach of Samhain, and to banish negativity from my life. It was a very powerful experience that ran me through a gamut of emotions. I feel so cleansed after having completed it.
To me, this ritual is a VERY solitary thing and must be done alone. I modified it a bit as I did it. The ritual directs you to write a list of negative things that you wish to banish from your life and burn the paper all at once. I wrote down one item at a time, and then tore the writing (in a strip) from the sheet and burned each item...one by one. It's very cleansing to look into the flames as you do this, imagining that negative force leaving your life.
Also, I used incense for this ritual, although it's not noted. I used sage and cedar for cleansing. You could use a smudge stick, too.
And although I don't mention it in the ritual, keep a bucket of water handy while you're doing this ritual just in case the fire should get out of hand. When you're burning smaller paper strips, this isn't much of an issue, but it's good to be safe. :)
I did borrow the form for this ritual from something I found on a website, but I can't remember where so I can give credit. :( I did some very heavy rewriting, though, so it isn't that much like the original.
Without further ado, here's the Word document. PM me if you need a text file or something other than Word.
