I did this ritual tonight to honor the new moon and the approach of Samhain, and to banish negativity from my life. It was a very powerful experience that ran me through a gamut of emotions. I feel so cleansed after having completed it.

To me, this ritual is a VERY solitary thing and must be done alone. I modified it a bit as I did it. The ritual directs you to write a list of negative things that you wish to banish from your life and burn the paper all at once. I wrote down one item at a time, and then tore the writing (in a strip) from the sheet and burned each item...one by one. It's very cleansing to look into the flames as you do this, imagining that negative force leaving your life.

Also, I used incense for this ritual, although it's not noted. I used sage and cedar for cleansing. You could use a smudge stick, too.

And although I don't mention it in the ritual, keep a bucket of water handy while you're doing this ritual just in case the fire should get out of hand. When you're burning smaller paper strips, this isn't much of an issue, but it's good to be safe. :)

I did borrow the form for this ritual from something I found on a website, but I can't remember where so I can give credit. :( I did some very heavy rewriting, though, so it isn't that much like the original.

Without further ado, here's the Word document. PM me if you need a text file or something other than Word.

I did a similar thing after my grandfather died, to help myself move on.
I wrote a list of all the things I loved about him, and then burnt it with some herbs; in my mind I sent it into whatever afterlife was beyond, to wherever he had gone.
It wasn't so that I would forget, or stop thinking about those things, but so that it wouldn't hurt me so much when I did :)

:hugz: glad it went so well with you, as well xx

I love that ritual Aurora. I have used similar methods. The cauldron is my favorite tool. I love when a ritual is cleansing like that. It resets your whole outlook on life. Glad it went well for you. Keep the lesson of the ritual.

I've been working with that kind of thing lately. I must try this ritual.

Nice ritual. One piece of advice, if I may. When you banish something from your life you create a void. It is best to fill that void with something positive lest the negative come back.

Ah, good suggestion! I'll make some revisions and additions. :)
