I've been on this path for a long time but i don't feel qualified to teach. So close but...grr...not yet. But I'd be happy to get coffee and doughnuts for the real teachers.

I strongly recommend not allowing Tzhebee in this class. She is extremely disruptive and very unwilling to share muck. Must we repeat such unfortunate incidents, Tz?

I say we should have open discussions in class. I feel we all learn and benefit more from that experience. Does anyone feel the same way?

Well …
I’ve always thought that an “open discussion” concerning Native American Spirituality,
Would be Far more correct and expectable,
As opposed to a “Class”
I’d love to see “those interested” ..
Get together for discussion.
I think it would be a wonderful thing!!
But I’m not shy about saying that,
I’m Very Touchy about someone stepping into a “Teaching” position on this topic.
Native American Spirituality is based on Culture and Heritage!!
NOT on a couple of books read,
Or movies watched,
Or classes attended!!
Native American Spirituality is taught face to face,
And eye to eye.
It’s taught by family, and Tribal Elders.
Anyone who really wants to learn it,
Should go to a reservation …
Get with the elders there,
To see if you would even be excepted as a student.
It’s doubtful they’d take an outsider in.
But if there’s enough desire, and honor in what you seek.
They sometimes do.

I'm of the opinion ( which may not matter here ) that if what you seek is respectful and one is searching regardless of culture,
Then call it a Red Path or Nature based Path. This is more inline with Black Elk's vision of the Rainbow Tribe which many NAIs have opposed and tried to suppress in part.
Some will always find a reason to deny knowledge to others.
This is reverse persecution of a sort.
If not here, someone can contact me in other manners and i will help with whatever one asks.
I'm not a teacher as such, but i am knowledgeable in manner areas .
The undertones of this board are sometimes very disturbing. sorry for the short rant. :chattin:

Well, can someone hurry up and ask one of the mods to open up this class? all we really need is one or two people to keep us in line... you know, to make sure we don't go on an arguing rampage or something.
I really think this could work. I think it would also be a great test to see how "civilized" we can be. :hmmmmm: I honestly think this can work. I mean, we are all honest about what we wish to pursue right? Our goal is to try to learn, not try to prove or put others down right? I think as long as we stick to that simpl goal, then there shouldn't be any real problem. :)

Ok I am working on this. Not a class for telling anyone anything...but to guide all that want to share with each other. I have conntacted Morr and Kaylara with the idea of this "Sharing the Red Road". Morr has contacted me back.
I'll let you know any final desisions as soon as its figured out!!!

:colorful: Hello HippieWitch, I hope they open a room so that everyone can be open and talk, but not judgemental. For the Red Path is hard to explain. Unless you live it. I would love to help, but believe there would be lots of fussin and us bein 'rednecks'...... or let me speak for myself {sorry}, I'm a redneck and I speak my mind. Soooo hopefully this will go somewhere.
:huddle: Somebody has got to start the wheel turning!!

I have read Black Elk's books. From one wolf to another, The Circle must turn and it must start somewhere, where do you suggest we start?

Well perhaps you can offer suggestions and advice as to how we should experience the Red Path. Maybe we could learn a lot more. I mean... how much can talking online really accomplish? (Okay, okay, so it can help us to at least get ot thinking about a few things...:))

I understand that you may feel touchy about someone stepping in as a "teacher" for this and I can respect that. However, over the past century many of the Native ways were lost due to systematic (for lack of a better "real" word) culturalcide. Traditionally it is taught by elders but, overall, Native Americans are still recovering their spirituality, before all the elders who do remember the old ways pass on. Discussion is necessary and not all those who seek are truely outsiders. There is Mohawk on my mother's side of the family though because of records being destroyed we cannot trace the family history there. There are Dakota-Sioux (Lakota) and Cree in the province of Manitoba here and they have been very open in sharing many of their beliefs. There will always be those things that are so sacred they are only shared between the elders and Medicine men and women. Those are not my place to know, unless I have earned that position of trust. However, I feel the rest of it benefits greatly from discussion whether it's outsiders or not. Forgive me for not being as articulate as I would like, I slept in and have to shlep off to work right away. I am in no position to teach but I would love to make time for this if you go ahead with it. :)

Okay... has anyone gone to mol, Semele or any of the mods to open this up?
Okay nevermind. Why don't we find...why don't we just opt to get a new forum, that's not in COT. I think it's better that way. We can have Native American exploration or somthing. That way everyone can post questions and we can all simply study together. I have no other ideas.

I think a new forum would be great. If anything else, it would be a good stepping stone towards a class sometime in the future, if the demand is high enough and anyone *does* feel comfortable teaching it. I'd feel more comfortable in a tutoring position. :graduate:

Umm, k, so it's been a few months but what happened? Will a class be held? When? I'm a pantheist with native teachings from elders from both the Ogalala and Ojibwe nations (through my college) Though I have no right as of now to teach, I would love to sit at the circle and share what I have learned and learn what you have!
It is the time of the 7th fire and all of us who honor the earth and our brothers and sisters need to come together to restore balance. Ojibwe proficy says we are at a spot where the road divides. Many Natives are starting to speak out, and are excepting of outsiders quest for knowledge to renew earthbased spirituality. I think it is a wonderful idea that this class be established.
Let me know?

I decided not to pursue it. The COT doesnt seem to really fit. Probably be best to just start a 'sharing' thread! :)

Where to share? in paths maybe? I've seen that one was set up a while ago by another member but it seems that it turned into a Shamanism thread, not quite native enough for me!

I think a thread on sharing would work, people from different tribes are here on the boards and can lend some insight along with those that just wish to explore how things were and are done among the Native Americans.I for one don't want to see the culture die off not being passed down , sad but it is too late in some aspects already.

I too am very interested. I am going to check "Paths" to see if anything has been started as I am not qualified to start this. If the group starts from this thread I will keep checking back.
