Every year I like to do a cleansing and protecting spell on our house, but I seem to have lost my spell for it (our house eats paper) I know that I need bay leaves to put over the doors, and red clover for the corners, and I have both of those. I can't seem to think of what else I need aside from rosemary, and I have that too. I am on my way to the herb shop today to pick up a few things, but I'd rather not have to go twice since it's such a trip. Anyone?

selene,
i recommend space clearing by karen kingston; she takes an eclectic feng shui approach to energy cleansing.
this is what i do when i need to clear my house:
1) CLEAN EVERYTHING -- get rid of trash, recycling, clutter, dust, abandoned cobwebs (i leave the ones that the spiders are still using), old clothes, old toys, old books, anything that doesn't belong in your space anymore. scrub all surfaces. wipe down grungy walls. vacuum under appliances. open windows if weather permits.
2) ground and center yourself, light a smudge stick (white sage), say a prayer or two to current favorite deity, dedicate the ceremony to the highest good of all beings
3) smudge every inch of the house, paying special attention to corners, doorways, and windows. i also open cupboards and closets and smudge in there.
4) use sound to loosen stuck energy -- karen kingston describes this in greater detail, but the gist of it is to use bells and clapping hands in the same way you use smudge: bathe the house in vibration. i have a tibetan singing bowl that i set in the middle of each room, then get it going in wave upon wave of strong vibration. then i go into the corners and clap my hands to loosen anything the bowl might have missed.
5) sprinkle a line of salt across every entry point to the house (doors, windows, hearths, vents)
6) go outside and hold the whole house in a shaft of protective light.
7) thank deity, extinguish smudge stick, close ceremony.
8) go back inside and beautify -- put out fresh flowers, display art pieces, rearrange furniture to please the eye.
