View Full Version : Mirrors with shoddy clips

I bought a full-length mirror for 17 dollars (I was shocked... ones in catalogs were twice that!) in Linens-n-Things about.. oh, say, three months ago... and ever since, it's been propped up against my wall because I'm afraid to attempt the assembly. This mirror... which is considerably heavy... is supposed to be mounted to the wall via a few clear plastic, very shoddy looking clips. I'm considering just getting some heavy duty doublesided tape (because my luck with mounting squares -- those little selfadhesive squares-- has gone to shite lately).
Aaaanyway.
Would doublesided tape support a mirror ... I'd say about.. 7 pounds?
Or should I just get my maintenance man to figure out the clip crap?
Thanks :)

Given that you have the clips it prob worth trying them first. Unless you are really convinced that they will not hold.
Double sided tape is unlikely to do the job, but it depends how heavy duty (what is is rated to hold) and how much you use. However what you can get are some better clips or hooks. The hooks I am thinking of are plactic stick-on hooks. They are rated to hold 12 kgs each and you can get ones that you can remove without peeling the paint off the wall. I forget what the brand is, but they are real easy to get here, i imagine that they would be easy to get in USA as well. Look in hardware stores and craft stores, a good supermarket may even have them. Actually prob any where that sells double sided tape :)

You will be amazed as how much weight those plastic clips will hold. If you secure them to the wall well they should have no problem holding the mirror up. I would suggest using dry wall mollies to screw the clips into. These are the little plastic plugs that go in the wall that expand as you screw into them. They may have come with your mirror. If not you can pick them up at any decent sized groecery store. You could if it would make you feel better use both the clips and the tape.
Good luck
