Hey, I was wondering, what makes your home "look" pagan. I know, I know there isn't a "Pagan look". But, I'm sure you know what I mean. Like what makes it spooky, gypsy, bohemian, magickal, victorian, gothic, etc...? What rooms do what for your witchy spirit? I'm just looking for ideas.....Thank you and Blessed Be.

I work for a Vintage Antique Consignment Shop, and an Interior Design Student. My style tends to be eclectic. In my home I have antiques, glass heads, pictures of family, old candleabras, plants, architectual salvage pieces (old railings, cornices, arched wooden shutters, etc) My best advice is to buy things that speak to you. Even if it doesn't match, once you sart filling your space with things you love it will start to match, in a non matching way. I shop for the feel of things. How i feel when i look and touch things. Don't get a lot a stuff that you can't feel comfortable touching, and throwing your feet on, etc. Plants, natural elements ( bowls of pretty rocks and shells) CANDLES CANDLES CANDLES. Hope this helps-

CANDLES CANDLES CANDLES.
I have a collection of tall candlesticks in one corner of my library. I use them around my altar, but most of the time, they just look like an interesting collection. I just added a black iron candleabra (sp?) almost as tall as I am. It holds 5 bigger candles (I bought a bunch of short pillar candles for it).
I have my gargoyle collection scattered throughout the first floor, & have recently started to collect G*ddess statues.
Otherwise, I'm going for a sort of Victorian Gothic look....think Addams' family's house.

Hmm let me think...candles, plants, anything to do with fantasy creatures like faeries, elves. Also medieval or old gothic themed items. Look also for things with a celtic flair as well.

i have little altars everywhere, lots of windchimes, animal figurines, candles everywhere, lots of stars, suns, moons, etc... oh and fountains, they're wonderful. and plants. they, along with the fountains, give your home a more "natural" feel. which is paganish. and peaceful.

hmmm... lots of plants and candles as said before... I think your house should feel almost earthy. Like take my mom's house or instant any time some one goes in there they say they feel comfortable. it's almost like it's not one of those spic and span no dust anywhere house, it almost seems to come right out of the ground.... plus it does help she has a large collection of weird things

I use concrete garden stuff a lot.. a bird bath covered with a round glass top makes a great accent table, large concret planters can hold towels in the bath, magazines in the living room, or be a trashcan (w/plastic bag inside) in the bedroom...
Bring some garden statuary INSIDE...Pan, Venus, a faerie...and put some potted plants around it near a sunny window...

I hang stuff on the wall, silks and so forth - you could hang up a nice cloth with a pentacle on it. I also have a few handmade clay charms hanging in various rooms, and bowls of crystals here and there :)

I think what makes a place Wicky is really a sense that you are entering sacred space. Granted I feel sacred space should be ALL places, but in my place that sense should be brought out. My husband and I like old things, that have almost gathered their own soul. I'm not wild about homes I see where someone visited a head shop and bought a look, any more than I am fond of IKEA. Your place should be WHAT you ARE. Ours is reds and greens and blues all tangled up and complex, blue dragon pottery from spain, other blue pottery from a friend who draws little animals in the bottom, red silk oriental rugs, heavy old antique furniture, candles on small altars, deer sculptures, plants, music blairing (anything from Garth Brookes to the Canberra Pipes and Drum Band) and something yummy cooking in the kitchen. Because i don't think decorating is about how a place LOOKS so much as how it feels and what we want always comes back to T.S. Elliot in the Love SOng Of Alfred Prufock talking about measuring out his life in coffee spoons... we REFUSE to live by coffee spoons, and we want our home to scream that we will not live with compromise....we want it big, bold, loud and delicious.... life is too damned short for anything but what you love. that goes for how your house looks and how your heart feels.. and the two shouldn't be so far apart
We don't tell strangers who or what we are, but anyone looking would KNOW. I mean I don't like when Christians have their faith oozing all over me, and i don't want ours to do that to someone else. I want it to be what it is, and intigral and low key part of us... from our kitchen with our kitchen witch to the flowers and candles arranged seasonally on a table in the foyer... 'oh... hey its an altar...." but for someone not in the know in February, its just a bear motif table cloth with white flowers and candles and a silver bowl of nuts arranged prettily. At easter its a bunny and pasanki egg collection and a silver bowl full of m&Ms.. ect....

I'm a newbie as things go, to pagan ways....but, realized recently...my house is quite witchy and pagan! I don't buy much as far as home decor goes....it has to "speak" to me. I have to really fall in love with something....what I have has taken me a lifetime to gather. For me...I'm pretty quirky and have always loved antiques and oddities...from all cultures. So, essentially I'm a horrible ecclectic. As another said though....it all works together to make a theme or a feel. From the elegant old antiques to the crow decoys, stained glass, arrangements of candles, herbs hanging from the ceiling in big racks, large vases...to rich colors (don't be afraid of color, esp. on walls! Our dining room is a rich/dark burgundy garnet color) and etc and so on.
Don't just go out and buy anything....it has to resonnate with you....no matter what it is, or how strange it is. If you like it, buy it...or make it!
One room in our house has been dedicated exclusively to our studies and for quiet reflection. It's a combination library, meditation and magic room. We just put it together a few months ago, but it already has a distinctive "feel." That room is especially fun to be working on....and is already feeling witchy. Books galore, row upon row of herbs, censors, magical tools, candles of every variety and shape, antique tables, growing racks for herbs, and altar, statues and artwork fill it.
Go with your gut...you can't go wrong.

I don't strive for it but since I'm attracted to deep colors fantasy art, eclectic accessories, and dark antique furniture....I have lots of masks scarves and costume peices...framed posters and figures... candles and stacks of books....so walking into my room most people get the crazed theatre loving, movie/comic/televison show fanatic witch, I don't go for it, it just comes out that way...:)

In my house I have also used deep colors. Emerald, gold, burgundy. I have a replica of King Arthurs Sword hanging on the wall. Lots of Medieval type artwork with heavy, ornate gold frames, also Animal prints. (altho I do have Steven Tyler and Elvis, hanging up in the laundry room.;))
A crystal ball on a marble table. Granite and cherry wood...
A bowl of crystals when you walk in, and of course my beautiful broom.
I have run out of money...but I intend to buy some ornate area rugs and some heavy velvet or velour curtains.
And yes lots of candles.

In the living room I have a tall vase filled with twigs that were suckers I cut off my honey locust tree that I nestle a birds nest in. Sometimes I switch out the twigs for a 'bouquet' of peacock feathers (Wal-mart find).
I have a couple really small copper cauldrons (eBay) that I use to burn incense and hold offerings.
I have some wooden doll furniture (dollar store find many years ago) that I display acorns, tiny Indian pots and small candles on. I have a pair of deer antlers that I move around.
I like natural beeswax tapers, the rolled kind with the comb print on them. They look old and smell nice too.
In the kitchen I have a cast iron cauldron sitting on my stove that I keep my cooking utensils in. Prints of herbs and sometimes real herb bundles on the walls.
I found most of my stuff at flea markets, thrift stores, yard sales, eBay and my yard (other people's yards too, with permission).

i have crystals in the windows, anything to sparkle and bring light into the home. now that i think about it, they are also in the bath and the living room. i don't like candles (FIRES!) so i stick to incense. i have sooo many plants. orchids and potted herbs i rescued from my mother. and a cat. his name is thule.
i have a big pic of marilyn monroe. i can't hang "pagan" looking things. the art is really silly to me. marilyn is like venus to me, that's how she makes me feel so i guess i could make that connection.
the plants bring nature in, and make me feel like i am part of it.
i have art and photos up to make me feel connected to my friends.
beads hanging through doorways to break up the space, bc they look "bohemian."
and... i'm painting it a soothing sage color.
the door is bright red, which is supposed to ward off evil.
i feed the neighborhood cats from a bowl outside my door, which makes me feel more witchy than anything.
