I've come across this practice in some reading a few times recently and was hoping to get some opinions or experiences with it. I've read of a few cases where people have recorded the sound in a quiet room, and have heard voices on the recording. Is there anything to this? Is it really as simple as hitting record on a tape recorder? Any input would be appreciated. So would the proper name for this practice. Thanks.

I heard of that done. However, from what I read and recordings I heard, it's best to be in a place where ghosts may be and ask questions. Give some time then ask another. Replay it and you can hear voices but they may seem muffled. If you can get the recordings on a PC with audio editor, you maybe able to clean it up for a clearer sound.

I've heard it was possible. Infact it interested me so much I recently bought a book on it. I haven't finished reading it yet, but when I do you can be sure I'll be out there with my tape recorder to test it!

I used to experiment with EVP... never got any results, but I think our house was a dead zone. I've always wanted to go back to the house I lived in from the ages of 1 to 10, because it was very haunted. That would be a great place to experiment.

To do it, you need some sort of white noise like a running faucet. TV and radio static/fuzz are unreliable because you never know when or if you're getting bleed from a station.

Yes, it is that easy--and that hard.

I've done this and heard them, as well...both on a tape recorder and on a camcorder. I used to belong to a ghost hunting group. we had them on tape, both sound and video and also on digital camera. Can blow your mind when you first start doing this. I miss it -- at times.

I'll have to get back to you tomorrow on the name of the book. I'm at school now and the book is at home.I can't bring anything "incriminating" to school due to regular locker searches.

I love the idea of EVP, i would like to try it out myself, but i can't even bring myself to listen to audio clips from other peoples experiences. There is a movie coming out soon called White Noise that is about EVP. its the tv/radio kind, this guy is trying to contact his wife through EVP, and ends up summoning some demon or something. I didn't pay much attention to the preview for it, it scared me half to death before i got that far... it looks fun though, although perhaps not very accurate. anyways, its worth looking into.

Hee Hee I go to panguitch public high school. Sorry I couldn't get back to anybody about the book yesterday. All the teachers were keeping really close tabs on us. Luckily today I got the seat that you have to walk all the way around to get to so I have warning when the teacher comes. Well I said I'd get the name of that book cause I couldn't remember the name of it before...... Boy did I feel dumb when I got home and looked at it....It's called "Speak With The Dead. (How do you forget a name as easy as that!!!) Seven Methods For Spirit Communication" by Konstantinos I've only read about half but so far it makes pretty good sense (As good a sense as communicating with the dead can be) Ahhh I got caught!!!!! And I thought a teacher Couldn't see me!!! *sigh* well I have to get off the computer now. Bye all

I believe that it can be/ is done. In fact, threw a ghost-hunting party that wasn't. That is, two other couples, with whom my husband and I are close friends, came over with the intent that we eat together and visit a cemetary to try to record spirit voices. By the time we finished eating, dusk was upon us; one of the friends is in law school and didn't feel like getting busted for being in a cemetary after dusk. So we didn't get any ghost recordings that night. But we've all agreed to try again this springtime.

I've watched the Sci-Fi Channel show, Ghost Hunters. They record EVPs. The last time I watched the one they recorded freaked me out so bad that I haven't watched the show since. I think it's fascinating, but something about it just makes me... :awilly:

Oddly enough, it has always been sounds that have freaked me the most. When I watched the Exorcist as a teen, the visuals didn't creep me out at all, but her VOICE stuck with me for weeks. I would hear it in my sleep, and immediately wake up and turn on all the lights. (Because, as we all know, demons are afraid of light. )

This link might be helpful for you. It's not for me--I'm too chicken! :collapse:

Agreed. Although I have heard, but this is from a particularly non-supernatural standpoint solution, that certain types of man made areas, (rooms, entire houses) and the kinds of materials that encompass them can create memory zones... where certain frequencies or intensities of sounds are absorbed and then when activated, begin to resonate again. I personally don't know much more about it, and I think I read that theory in one of the Time/Life Mystery books.
As a youth into my early twenties, I used to hang out in the woodsy area near Sunset Hill Cemetary in Warrensburg,... It was somewhere to go where only the "gothy" or "gamer" kids would go, so we felt safe, and it added to others not wanting to bug us because we were acting so weird by hanging out there at night. There were times though, especially around the above ground Mausoleums that you could hear things.
We never taped any noises. The thought never occurred to us to do so. Might be worth trying again. :)
