View Full Version : Which class to teach?

I'm thinking its time for me to teach a new class, but I can't decide what I should teach. Unfortunately, anything pagany that I can think of to teach, someone else is already teaching...though I do have an idea or two. Herbs? Tarot? I know that divination has been done, and there's a tarot class in the tarot forum, so would that be worth it? What about ancient religions and mythology? (That one could be tough for me... I did take a university class on it, but that was a long time ago, so I'd have to do a lot of research).

I was wondering, though, if anyone would be interested in learning about things that aren't pagany. What about child development and psychology? Something about milestones? I took a university class on this, and I've done tons of research since becoming a mom.

Or maybe a combination of pagan and mundane? How about Pagan parenting? Although a class on that could be a bit difficult....I'm sure I'd figure it out, though.

I'm just thinking out loud for the moment..... I'll include a poll for your amusement... which class would you like to see me do?

I'm not votiing...but had to put my 2 cents in anyway.

First, I am still enjoying your first Wheel of the Year class, as I reference it often even though I was not a student.

Secondly, I would (personally) avoid doing a pagan parenting class. As I can just see it being a huge fight. People's parenting choices differ as much as the definition of "Pagan"....I just forsee a real headache and much rudeness with that one. (although the idea is sound).

Lastly, I think ancient religions/mythology would be fun...but perhaps too broad.

I realize that people have differenting parenting styles, so when I talk about pagan parenting, I don't mean parenting as in how to potty train, or discipline. I mean possible ways of how to celebrate sabbats/esbats with children, or simple child hood spells....a bos for a child....basically ways to incorporate your children into your religion, if you so desire.

As for ancient religions and mythology...I would definately shorten it from the university course I took... I'd include development of dieties, Egypt, Mesopotiamia, Sumeria, Greek/Roman cults and worship and the move towards monotheism.

A-ha! Thanks for the clarification. :) That sounds like a class I would definately "lurk" around in. :graduate:

Oh I love the idea of pagan parenting group. In my forum I have been doing stuff like that already, it would be neat in a class format though.

Editted to add: a Tarot class would alwyas be good to!

I voted for "Herbs", since it's what I know the least about out of those. :)
Well... pagan parenting I don't know much about either. But, I'm not a parent. :P

I voted for Ancient Religions and Mythology, but I think Herbs or pagan parenting would also be interesting.

I voted for pagan parenting but could see where it might could be expanded to not simply parenting but relationships with others as well in a personal manner. Perhaps there are some new to this path that could use some ( How to say? ) ideas / theories on how to deal with others instead of being closeted..

I just started the ongoing? Oils class and find it very informative.

Tarot would then be my second vote.

I voted for herbs. It's something I've really been trying to learn on my own but I think a class would really help.

Thanks for all your replies, everyone! At the moment I'm drawing up an outline for a Tarot class. The votes are so close though, that I will also most likely be offering the other classes some time in the future, as well.
So for those of you who are interested in tarot, keep your eyes out for it. :)

Thanks again, for your help!

I voted Pagan Parenting. There are a lot of people on here who would benefit from that, and definitely enjoy it! Plus, go with what you know, and enjoy!

Well, I'm definately teaching what I know, I've been reading tarot for 8 years. The tarot class I've decided to do is going to be the same class that I'm going to offer on my website, for a fee. MWers get to be my guinea pigs, plus they get something with a lot of value for free. :D

I voted for Wheel, Herbs and Ancient Religions. Heh ... maybe a Survey class over all of them.... hehe... nah, that'd be too much like college... :P

Well, there's already an herb class going on now, so I say re-do wheel of the year or oils.

Is the tarot class finished?

I voted for oils, herbs, pagan parenting and wheel of the year. Sorry- I couldn't make up my mind; I haven't had the opportunity to take any courses on MW yet! I think I also voted for ancient religons and mythology (seeing as how I studied this in college it would be a refresher course for me!)
